Take the World's Hardest U2 Quiz

Yahoo16-05-2025

It's not hard to spot the hardcore fans at U2 shows. They're the ones wearing vintage Lovetown Tour T-shirts who scream louder for 'Acrobat' than 'Pride (In the Name of Love),' call out guitar tech Dallas Schoo by name when he brings the Edge a new instrument, and leap into the air on the rare occasions when Bono adds his 'shine like stars' coda to the final verse of 'With or Without You.' (If you have any idea what that even means, you're one of the people we're talking about here.) But U2 are a stadium band, and the vast majority of their audience largely just know the hits. A smaller subset owned The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby on cassette or CD back in the day, and have vague memories of the deeper cuts. To figure out where you fall on the spectrum of U2 fans, check out this quiz.
0 to 30 percent correct: Don't be discouraged. Just head to your favorite streaming service, load up the U2 catalog, and spend the next few hours soaking it all in. To start off, we'd recommend War, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, Pop, All That You Can't Leave Behind, and No Line on the Horizon. Once you're done, check out the book U2 at the End of the World, by Bill Flanagan, and the group's own official oral history, U2 by U2. That's a lot of music and history to absorb, but this is a band on the verge of celebrating its 50th anniversary.

31 to 60 percent correct: Nice job. You are clearly someone who has spent some time with the catalog. If you wish to learn more, Rolling Stone has been covering U2 since the very beginning. The late James Henke called them 'the next big thing' in a pivotal 1981 article before most people in America knew they even existed. Four years later, we called them the 'Band of the 80s' when the decade was just halfway over. (It's also one of the worst cover photos we've ever run. For some reason, they're buried in shadows in front of a haunted staircase.) Pore through all of these articles and you're likely to emerge an expert.
61 to 100 percent correct: Congrats! You're a true U2 aficionado. You probably know every word to 'Womanfish' and 'Pete the Chop,' watched the original Year in Pop ABC broadcast in 1997, and even the raw Rattle and Hum footage that leaked out decades back. There's not much more we can teach you at this point. But if you're looking for great bootlegs, we recommend May 6, 1983, in Boston; Jan. 10, 1990, in Rotterdam, Netherlands; June 11, 1992, in Stockholm; and May 6, 2001, in Pittsburgh. Hopefully they'll start their own official Bootleg Series. But then again, you surely have all of this stuff anyway.

Fashion Designer Testifies Diddy Dangled Her Off Balcony, Called Himself 'The Devil'

Back in November 2024, a fashion designer who worked with Sean 'Diddy' in the past sued the mogul, saying he threatened her life and dangled her from a 17th floor balcony in 2016. The woman, named Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan, testified in court Wednesday (June 4) and spoke about her interactions with Combs and what she witnessed in regard to his relationship with Cassie Ventura. While on the witness stand, Bongolan said the balcony incident 'left her with night terrors' and added that there were times where she 'would scream in her sleep,' per NBC. The lasting psychological impact included feelings of paranoia, sometimes leading her to 'peek her head out at her own home just to make sure the area was clear.' She said he held her over the ledge for '10 to 15' seconds and yelled, 'You know what the f**k you did.' The witness also said the father of seven allegedly told her 'something along the lines of, 'I am the devil and I can kill you.'' It's worth noting Ventura included the balcony event in her 2023 lawsuit against Combs without mentioning Bongolan, her friend, by name. The designer claims she witnessed several instances of abuse from Diddy towards Cassie throughout the years. She also testified both she and Ventura were regular drug users during the years they were immersed in Diddy's social circle. She confirmed during cross-examination that she did ketamine, marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine and Vicodin in this time of her life. Per court documents obtained by Rolling Stone last year, Bongolan sued the Bad Boy founder for sexual battery, infliction of emotional distress, and false imprisonment, among other claims. The 17-page lawsuit read, 'Ms. Bongolan refuses to allow this fear to control the rest of her life and brings this action to demand that Mr. Combs takes responsibility for the trauma he intentionally and maliciously inflicted.' Diddy is facing one count of racketeering conspiracy; two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion; and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was arrested in NYC on Sept. 16, 2024, and held at MDC Brooklyn without bail. His trial is expected to last all of June and into July. Pride Fest returning to Lake Station park

Northwest Indiana Pride Festival organizers are gearing up for a second year of festivities celebrating Gay Pride Month on Saturday and Sunday at Riverview Park in Lake Station. This year's event includes more entertainment vendors and has drawn more sponsors and food trucks, said Leah Peksenak, of Portage, president of NWI Pridefest. 'This year's slogan is 'bigger, louder, prouder,'' she said. U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan, D-Highland, is slated to address attendees at noon on Sunday, she said. It marks Mrvan's first appearance. On Tuesday, the city's Board of Works approved two agreements with the group for indemnification and liability, protecting the city in case of negligence. A memorandum of understanding calls for NWI Pride to supervise the event, coordinate vendors and parking. The city will provide police officers, within its discretion. NWI Pride agreed to pay $5,000 to hold the two-day event. 'The last one went smoothly,' said Carroll. 'The weather was off, but it was still OK. 'This world, people believe what they want to believe. We didn't see any hate that day. And, you know, that was good. And it's also good that the city of Lake Station is a safe spot.' The two-day event runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. A two-day general admission is $17.50 or $10 each day. It's $8 to use the nearby city pool and a VIP admission is $100. Peksenak said the event's beneficiary is IYG, a nonprofit that assists young gay people suffering from housing insecurity. It has a location on U.S. 30 in Schererville. Peksenak said festival-goers are also invited to play pickleball on the city's new courts in the park at 2701 Ripley St. Some of the events include a petting zoo, a mechanical bull, and a magician. Several of the sponsors are faith-based including Marquette Park United Methodist Church, Gary, Hobart First United Methodist Church, First Christian Church, Valparaiso, Hobart First Unitarian, Temple Israel, Gary, Immanuel United Church of Christ, Highland, Unity of NWI, and INUMC Diversity, Missions, and Justice Ministries. Peksenak said an interfaith service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday. LGBTQ Porter County is sponsoring several events this month, as well. On June 12, there a dress-up with Pride at the group's location, 201 Washington St. Other events include: June 14: 'Love is Love 5K,' 8 a.m., Bluhm County Park, Westville June 19: Querroake, 7-8:30 p.m., 201 Washington St. June 20: Paint with Pride, 6-8 p.m., Dogwood Park, Chesterton June 22: Coming Together Picnic, 2-6 p.m., Kirchhoff Park, Valparaiso June 26: LGBTQ film screening, 5-7 p.m., Valparaiso Public Library
