New Delhi: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2 had an underwhelming start at the box office. The film minted Rs 52.5 crore across languages, lagging behind Rajinikanth's Coolie by a sharp margin. Breaking Down The Box Office Numbers As per Sacnilk, War 2 minted Rs 52.5 crore which includes Rs 29 crore in Hindi, Rs 0.25 crore in Tamil and 23.25 crore in Telugu. The alarming factor is Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's War (2019) minted Rs 53 crore on its opening day, with Rs 51 crore from the Hindi version. In comparison with the other YRF spy universe films, the earnings of War 2 is disappointing. Tiger 3 (2023), starring Salman Khan, released on the day of Diwali, which was a Sunday, and opened at Rs 44.5 crore. Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, which was one of the biggest hits of 2023, opened at Rs 57 crore and the Hindi share here was at Rs 55 crore. Interestingly, the film's Telugu occupancy beat its Hindi counterparts. As War 2 marks Jr NTR's Hindi debut, fans from the South thronged the theatres in large numbers. As per Sacnilk, the Telugu footfall of War 2 looked like, 74.68% in morning shows, 67.66% in afternoon shows, 72.66% in evening shows and 84.88% in night shows. About War 2 War 2 marks the first collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. The film also features Kiara Advani in a key role. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster of the same name. The action thriller is part of YRF's spy thriller universe and is produced by the studio. The film opened to average reviews which might have impacted its numbers at the box office.

War 2 makers dragged by Reddit for presenting negative review of Hrithik-NTR film as positive: 'Turning 00s into 100s'
War 2, the spy thriller starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, hit the screens on Thursday, August 14. The Ayan Mukerji film has been produced by Yash Raj Films, and is the newest, most ambitious chapter of the studio's YRF Spy Universe. Even though War 2 had a decent start at the box office courtesy of the two superstars' pull, the critical reviews were mixed to negative. Now, social media users have criticised YRF for presenting one negative review as positive in their creative. War 2 stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in the lead roles. Reddit pokes holes in YRF's post On Thursday, YRF took to Instagram from their official handle to share a few reviews for the film on Instagram Stories. One creative showed a glimpse of Hrithik and Kiara Advani from the film, alongside the review of trade analyst and critic Taran Adarsh. "Has star power, scale, style, stunts - Taran Adarsh," the text read, implying that Taran has given a thumbs up to the film. A YRF creative showing Taran Adarsh's review of War 2. However, Redditors were quick to point out that not only did Taran Adarsh give a lowly 1.5-star rating to War 2, but this line was taken out of context from his review. "War 2 team posted review of Taran Adarsh, but I think there is a mistake," wrote one person, sharing the YRF graphic on Reddit. The next slide contained Taran's original review posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account. It read: 'Disappointing. Weakest film in the YRF Spy star power, scale, style, stunts - but lacks soul... Writing is the biggest culprit here. Not even Hrithik Roshan or Jr NTR can save this royal mess.' Reddit pointed out how YRF's graphic conveniently omitted half the sentence, which added context to Taran Adarsh's statement about star power and scale in War 2. "Turning 00s into 100s. give the intern a raise," one person quipped in the comments. Another joked, "Gotta learn this and use during my yearly performance reviews." A comment read, "Gotta admire the sense of optimism." Another chimed in, "They really went to the ocean to extract some salt." About War 2 War 2 opened at ₹52.50 crore net in India, a healthy but still subpar collection for the film. War 2 has lagged behind War and Pathaan, two of the most successful films from the YRF Spy Universe. That it had two big stars and a pan-India appeal makes the sub- ₹60 crore opening surprising. In addition, the reviews have not been kind to it either. The HT review of the film read: "You know that feeling when you finally splurge on that fancy meal you have been craving, only to realise halfway through you do not even like it? That is War 2." The film is currently running in theatres.

Coolie Box Office Collection Day 1: Rajinikanth's massy actioner gets a bumper start, becomes biggest Tamil opener, earns Rs...
Coolie Box Office Collection Day 1: In the last few years, only a handful of films like Pathaan, Gadar 2, and Leo have sent fans into a frenzy and achieved sky-high collections. Adding to this list is Lokesh Kanagaraj's ensemble film Coolie, headlined by none other than the Thalaiva, aka Rajinikanth. The actor proved that his presence on the big screen is enough to have fans swooning. Coolie, which gave tough competition to another Pan-India release – War 2 – easily surpassed its numbers, and that too by a good margin. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Coolie grossed ₹65 crore in India on Day 1 of release. Coolie Becomes Biggest Tamil Opener Rajinikanth's action-thriller was widely loved in the Tamil screenings, followed by the Telugu version. Though the Hindi version of the film also brought in significant revenue, it was the Tamil screenings that dominated the film's revenue flow. Needless to say, Rajinikanth's Coolie showed stellar occupancies in the South Indian languages. Coolie Theatre Hall Occupancy Coming to the occupancy of the Rajinikanth-starrer, the Tamil belt recorded 87 per cent, whereas the Telugu belt had 91 per cent. The lowest was marked in the Hindi section with only 36 per cent on the film's opening day. Regions such as Pondicherry, Salem, and Warangal saw an impressive 99 per cent occupancy, while Chennai, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad recorded 97 per cent. Rajinikanth's Best Opening So Far Coolie has turned out to be Rajinikanth's best opening so far. The film has even surpassed his sci-fi blockbuster 2.0. But sadly, Coolie was short by hardly ₹1 crore to beat Vijay's Leo, which opened at ₹66 crore. Rajinikanth Completes Golden Jubilee in Cinema With Coolie hitting the cinema halls, it not only became the biggest opening for Rajinikanth so far but also marked his 50 years in Indian cinema. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to witeness the box office collection clash between Coolie and War 2. Ayan Mukerji's directorial minted Rs 50 crore on day 1 of its release.
