Tata Technology Excellence Centers to come up in 121 polytechnics
Lucknow: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the setting up of Tata Technology Excellence Centres in partnership with Tata Technologies Limited across 121 government polytechnics in the state, aiming to modernise technical education facilities. The initiative addresses the existing gap between industrial needs and academic curriculum in diploma-level technical education. Several course topics in polytechnics have become outdated or misaligned with current industrial requirements. These centres will serve to modernise the curriculum and bridge this educational gap. For this, Rs 57.3 crore will be spent on the installation of machines and equipment in each of the 121 polytechnics. Of the total cost of Rs 6935.8 crore, 87% (Rs 6034.2 crore), will be borne by TTL, and the remaining 13% (Rs 1063.9 crore), will be borne by the govt. In addition, the state govt will spend an additional Rs 858 crore – Rs 709.2 lakh per institution – towards civil infrastructure and other basic facilities. In the first phase, 45 polytechnic institutions will be upgraded. The project aims to provide quality technical education to students studying in the diploma sector of the state, thereby enhancing employment. It will also help students acquire essential skills and personality development as per industry requirements, said a govt spokesperson.
