AI 171 crash probe looking at sabotage angle too: Minister
NEW DELHI: The probe into the June 12 crash of Air India's AI 171 in Ahmedabad is examining all angles, including sabotage.
Junior civil aviation minister Murlidhar Mohol said in an interview to NDTV that the black box recovered from the wreckage of the ill-fated Dreamliner is with Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which has begun a full investigation into the crash.
"It is being probed from all angles, including any possible sabotage. The CCTV footage is being reviewed and all angles are being assessed... several agencies are working on it," Mohol said.
He ruled out sending the black box abroad for assessment. "It will not go anywhere. It is in AAIB's custody and there is no need to send it outside. We will do the entire investigation."
Terming the crash a "rare case", Mohol said: "It has never happened that both engines have shut down together...
Once the (probe) report comes, we will be able to ascertain if it was an engine problem or fuel supply issue, or why both the engines had stopped functioning. There is a CVR (cockpit voice recorder) in the black box which has stored the conversation between the two pilots. It is too early to say anything but whatever it is, it will come out.
The report will come in three months."
The AI Boeing 787 had crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12 just seconds after taking off for London.

Data from the black box has been downloaded at an AAIB lab in Delhi. The aircraft's CVR and flight data recorder (FDR) were recovered on June 13 and 16, respectively, from the rooftop of the building where the Dreamliner had crashed onto and from the debris. They were flown to Delhi by IAF aircraft on June 24 under security and brought to a lab of AAIB.
Aviation ministry Thursday said, "Analysis of CVR and FDR data is underway. These efforts aim to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the accident and identify contributing factors to enhance aviation safety and prevent future occurrences."

RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh HC has commuted the life imprisonment of a man convicted of raping his minor daughter to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court, while upholding the conviction, found the original sentence too harsh considering the facts and circumstances of the case. 'While dealing with the said case, where the victim all throughout maintained her allegation against her father to be the person who committed forcible sexual intercourse with her and thus robbed her chastity. Version of the minor victim, in the facts and circumstances of the case, merits acceptance, inasmuch as, the evidence of rape victim is more reliable than even that of an injured witness. The minor contradictions and discrepancies in her testimony are insignificant and immaterial and are liable to be ignored,' the court observed. A division bench of Justice Rajani Dubey and Justice Sachin Singh Rajput pronounced the order, in an appeal filed by the 38-year-old father. He had challenged the judgment dated September 19, 2019, passed by the Special Judge (POCSO Act), Baikunthpur. The lower court had convicted the father under Section 376(3) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh. During the trial, the prosecution examined eight witnesses. The victim testified that she had pain and bleeding following the rape by her father. She also stated that her father had threatened her not to disclose the incident. Dr. Ayushree Rai, who medically examined the victim, found signs of recent hymen rupture, supporting the prosecution's case. The defence argued that there was an unexplained delay of 15 days in lodging the FIR and that medical evidence did not support the prosecution's claims as no external injuries were found. The High Court, after reviewing the evidence, noted that while there was a delay in reporting the incident, such delays are common in cases involving sexual assault on minors due to social stigma. The court emphasized that the victim's testimony remained consistent and trustworthy across all stages, from the FIR to the cross-examination. The court cited a Supreme Court ruling which states that conviction can be based solely on the testimony of the prosecutrix if it inspires confidence and is reliable. The bench concluded that the prosecution successfully established its case beyond all reasonable doubt and found no fault in the trial court's decision to hold the accused guilty. However, on the matter of sentencing, the High Court referred to a similar case, Khemchand Rohra v. State of CG, and deemed the life imprisonment sentence to be excessively harsh. The court, therefore, reduced the sentence to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, while maintaining the fine of Rs 1 lakh. Earlier, Inspector General of Police V Satyanarayana confirmed to PTI: "Six bodies have been recovered from the accident site and two people died while undergoing treatment in a hospital. As many as 26 people were injured, out of which two to three people are seriously injured." According to factory sources, approximately 150 people were present in the facility, with 90 individuals near the blast site. The explosion occurred between 9.28 am and 9.35 am, prompting immediate response from local police and fire services. Ten fire engines were deployed, alongside NDRF and SDRF personnel for rescue operations. While the fire was contained, authorities worked to rescue about 10 workers trapped inside a room. The exact number of workers present during the incident remained unclear, as the record keeper was believed to be among the deceased. Stock trading scam: Retired software employee duped of Rs 3 crore in Hyderabad; added to WhatsApp group run by fake brokerage firm CEO
HYDERABAD: A 67-year-old retired software employee was duped for Rs 3 crore by fraudsters posing as representatives of a well-known Delhi-based stock trading firm. In his complaint to the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), the victim from Lalaguda alleged that in mid-April he was added to a WhatsApp group administered by a fraudster posing as Anu Prita Daga, who claimed to represent the CEO of a Delhi-based stock brokerage firm. The group, with 60 members, persuaded investors to open Over-The-Counter (OTC) trading accounts on their web platforms such as and assuring them that all transactions were reported to SEBI and RBI. The victim became suspicious as the total value of the IPO was Rs 55 crore.
