Sir David Attenborough recalls almost drowning while diving
Dramatic footage from the new film captures the destruction caused to the seabed by bottom trawling.
While talking to Prince William, Sir David put an open-circuit helmet on his head which lead to him telling the story about how he once almost drowned when he tested a scuba diving outfit in 1957, reports the Metro.
He was working and filming clips on the Great Barrier Reef when the incident happened, the newspaper explained.
'When I put mine (helmet) on for the first time, I suddenly felt water and thought, 'this can't be right'. But by the time the water got about there (pointing to under his nose) I thought, 'I'm sure this is not right',' he said.
'Of course, you've got this thing screwed on top of you and you can't breathe or make yourself heard. I was saying 'get it off me.''
He went on to say that the director wasn't convinced there was a fault with the equipment and insisted on trying it out himself.

Sir David said: 'He grabbed it and said it was fine, but I again said there was a fault, and he put it on, and I'm happy to say, he went underwater and came up even faster than I did, because there was actually a fault on the thing', he said, laughing with the Prince about his ordeal.
He talked about the destruction of the 'deep ocean floor' that has occurred since his first dive, describing it as 'just unspeakably awful'.
Sir David was one of the first people to explore the ocean.
Ocean With David Attenborough was released in cinemas to mark the renowned naturalist and TV presenter's 99th birthday and includes a sequence where the camera follows a bottom trawl, where nets are dragged with a metal beam across the seabed to catch fish.

As the iron chains travel across the ocean floor, they can be seen bulldozing through the habitat, stirring up silt which releases carbon and scooping up species indiscriminately.
The footage is thought to be the first time the process has been filmed in such high quality, showing the scale of destruction caused by trawling.

BBC shares major update on Doctor Who future amid hiatus

Disney has been a great partnership and it continues with The War Between The Land And The Sea next year." Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival Kate, who is just two months into her job, stressed: 'With or without Disney, Doctor Who will still be on the BBC." The uncertainty around the series has been caused by Disney's continuing reluctance to commit to either renewing its funding deal with the BBC - or pull out. But show creator Russell T Davies has indicated he's already working on scripts for the next series, and also for another one after that. Later in the session, the BBC's drama controller Lindsay Salt said she had 'no update' in terms of timings " on Doctor Who but said that information would be made public as soon as it was possible. Agreeing with Kate, she said the BBC commitment to Doctor Who as one of its biggest brands was water-tight, adding that the show was "hugely important to us"." Now Doctor Who fans have the spin-off show, The War Between the Land and the Sea, which expected to start around Christmas. Disney reportedly injected around £100million into Doctor Who, which gave a a significant boost to the show's production budget, allowing for CGI use of dinosaurs and other stunts. There is still a chance that the deal will be renewed, or that BBC Studios will find another partner to join forces with. In the session about the BBC, Kate also said the corporation 'acted fast' after misconduct allegations against former MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace. And she urged anyone who felt they had grievances to air against top talent to come forward, stressing that they would be taken seriously. 'No one is irreplaceable,' she said. On MasterChef, she said she'd acted on the information she'd had in 2019. 'So there were two complaints. I dealt with them. I acted on them fast. I think I acted responsibly. I left him in no doubt of the expected behaviour that we expect at the BBC, if you like. I stand by the actions I took at the time with the knowledge that I had. Other allegations didn't come to us until much later, sort of at the end of 2023, and at that point we did act, and we acted fast.' Wallace was dropped from the series after multiple claims of inappropriate language and behaviour against him were upheld. Later his co-host John Torode was also dismissed after a complaint over his 'racist language' was upheld.

Dylan is devastated by April betrayal in Emmerdale as evil Ray closes in
Emmerdale's Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) is in the clutches of drug lord Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) and Ray is planning on sinking his claws deeper. It's been a tough start for Dylan and April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) as Dylan struggled to be truthful with his friend over embarrassment of what he had been through. April is left with the guilt that she shouldn't have told her dad, who is now preparing to tell Paddy. April spots Dylan hanging outside a stranger's car and confronts him but breathes a sigh of relief to learn it was just a drugs drop, no sex work. But the damage is done – now Marlon and Paddy want words. Dylan is gutted and humiliated that she told them his deepest, darkest secrets. April is beside herself and in a desperate bid to save their relationship, tells Dylan she loves him. He's taken a back and overwhelmed, unable to process how someone who loves him could betray him. Disney desperate to win back Gen Z men following 'woke' flops like Snow White
Disney is reportedly desperate to win back young male viewers. According to Variety, 'leadership at Walt Disney Studios' are pressuring Hollywood creatives to find new movies and 'original concepts' that will appeal to Gen Z men aged between 13-28. The push comes as superhero movies from the Disney-owned Marvel have seen a huge decline in recent years. Other male-skewing fare from Disney, like 2023's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, flopped at the box office. Meanwhile rival studio Warner Bros. has recently produced a number of box office hits for young men, including Superman and A Minecraft Movie, which has grossed close to a billion dollars. Disney suffered a huge blow this year after the critical and commercial failure of Snow White. The big budget fairytale, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, was savaged by critics. In addition, the film faced severe backlash for its 'woke' changes, and leading lady Zegler's brazen comments about the original animated film is based off of while promoting the film. While Snow White ignited a plethora of controversies earlier this year, one major criticism from fans was how filmmakers transformed the dwarves into computer-generated 'magical creatures.' The decision angered actors with dwarfism, who blasted Disney's reliance on CGI as 'absurd' and 'discriminating.' The remake of the classic 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs film failed to land rave reviews from both fans and movie critics alike. Daily Mail's Brian Viner gave Snow White two out of five stars, calling it a 'painfully muddle-headed affair' and 'pallid reimagining,' but admitted Zegler 'plainly has oodles of talent.' 'Disney's contorted attempts not to offend anyone have somehow managed to offend everyone,' Viner noted. Meanwhile, The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw gave Snow White one out of five stars and called it a 'pointless' and 'exhaustingly awful reboot' with 'tiresome pseudo-progressive additions that tie the whole thing in knots.' 'Where other movies are playfully reimagining the backstories of famous villains, this one plays it straight, but with carefully curated revisionist tweaks,' Bradshaw wrote. 'Those otherwise estimable performers Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot are now forced to go through the motions, and they give the dullest performances of their lives.' Despite Snow White's failure, Disney has still produced a number of blockbuster hits over the last year. Lilo & Stitch crossed the billion-dollar mark at the box office, as did Moana 2. They're also predicted to bank more billion-dollar hits later this year with Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash. Disney is also enjoying a moderate hit with his new Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday. The movie, led by Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, has already grossed double its budget at the box office.
