Factory operator dies in Melaka after collision with MPV
Police said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
PETALING JAYA : A factory operator died after crashing his motorcycle into an MPV driven by a teacher on Jalan Tanjung Minyak, near Taman Arked Seri Rambai in Melaka last night.
In the 10pm incident, Shafie Sha'ari, 20, died at the scene from severe injuries.
Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when the 50-year-old teacher exited a junction to enter Jalan Bukit Pala.
'The teacher reportedly checked for traffic before exiting the junction, but did not see the victim coming on the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin Highway in the direction of Cheng bound for Tanjung Kling.
'The Honda RS-X motorcycle ridden by the victim rammed into the front left part of the MPV, throwing him off and killing him,' Utusan Malaysia reported him as saying, adding the teacher was uninjured.
Patit said the victim was believed to have been on his way home to Tanjung Kling after finishing his shift at a factory in Taman Teknologi Cheng.
The victim's body has been sent to Melaka Hospital's forensic unit for an autopsy, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Previously, Hussein was reported to have said that five police personnel, including two Sergeants and three Corporals, were mastermminds behind cable theft activities around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor for the past year. He stated that the police personnel, who were stationed at District Police Headquarters (IPD) and police stations around the two states, were among 16 suspects, including a woman, aged between 23 and 53, arrested for involvement in the syndicate known as 'Sindiket Mulia' (Mulia Syndicate), named after its leader. — Bernama

Taiwanese chemists arrested in Brickfields condo drug lab raid, RM3.29m amphetamine vape liquid seized
KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — Police arrested two Taiwanese men who were operating a laboratory for processing drug-laced vape liquid during a raid on a condominium in Brickfields, here last Wednesday, with a seizure of drugs worth RM3.29 million. Acting Director of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) Bukit Aman, DCP Mat Zani @ Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali, said the raid at 10:30pm found 20 five-liter plastic containers (jelly cans) and six 0.5-liter plastic bottles containing amphetamine vape liquid. In addition, various equipment for processing drug-laced vape liquid was also found, such as a mixer, heating machine, weighing scale, sealing machine, three glass beakers, one plastic funnel, and 95 empty cartridges believed to be for filling the drug-laced vape liquid. 'Initial technical analysis found that this syndicate is believed to be processing vape liquid containing Amphetamine (Fluoroamphetamine, Paramethoxyamphetamine) which has psychoactive and toxic effects similar to ecstasy on its users. 'The adverse effects of consumption include seizures, liver failure, extreme body temperature, psychosis, brain damage, emotional disturbances, extreme addiction, and even sudden death due to heart attack or respiratory failure,' he said during a JSJN press conference at the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, here today. Mohd Salahuddin said both suspects, aged 30 and 35, served as chemists and obtained the drug ingredients from China. He said that to ensure their drug-laced vape liquid processing activities were not detected, the syndicate used condominiums with complete security as a place to process and package the illicit substances. 'This premise was rented at RM4,100 per month, and it is believed that they change processing locations every three months, bringing in chemists from Taiwan and recruiting local workers to mislead the authorities. 'Both suspects also played a role in guarding the vape liquid processing site and delivering it to customers. They entered our country using a social visit pass and had entered the country twice, at the beginning of this year and early this month,' he said. He stated that the amphetamine drug-laced vape liquid was sold to the local market at RM180 per cartridge and internationally at around RM400 per cartridge. Meanwhile, he said that urine screening tests found both suspects negative for drugs but had past criminal records in their home country. 'We have checked the past records of both these suspects through our cooperation with the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (MJIB) and the Criminal Investigation Bureau of Taiwan to trace their past records in their country and assist in the full investigation of this case. 'The results revealed that the first suspect had previously driven under the influence of alcohol and drugs, while the second suspect has various criminal records, including murder, drug trafficking, and firearms,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and action is also being taken under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, with the seizure of a Honda AFS125 motorcycle belonging to the first suspect, valued at RM7,000. — Bernama

AGC to seek contempt proceedings against Shafee for ‘Nazi-Germany' court remark
PETALING JAYA, May 30 — The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has announced plans to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah over his controversial remark likening court proceedings to a 'Nazi-Germany kind of hearing.' In a statement, the AGC said Shafee's comment, made in reference to an ongoing case, constituted a 'serious and unnecessary attack' on the judiciary. 'While lawyers have the right to challenge judicial decisions through legal channels, public statements that undermine the courts or erode public confidence in the justice system are unacceptable,' it said. The AGC said it would proceed with contempt of court applications to uphold the rule of law, protect the integrity of the judiciary, and safeguard the courts from baseless accusations and undue public pressure. Shafee, who represents former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, reportedly made the remark in response to a court order temporarily suspending proceedings linked to Najib's judicial review to enforce a royal decree for house arrest. Yesterday, Malaysiakini quoted Shafee comparing the court's decision to a 'Nazi-Germany kind of hearing.' In a follow-up statement today, Shafee clarified that his remark was meant to educate the public during an exchange with a reporter, rather than to disparage the judiciary. He said the comment was intended to explain the concept and essence of a 'judicial decision.' Najib had earlier been granted leave by the Court of Appeal to initiate judicial review proceedings to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest. However, these proceedings are on hold pending the Federal Court's decision on an appeal by the Attorney-General. In February last year, the Federal Territories Pardons Board announced that Najib's prison sentence for the SRC International case had been reduced from 12 years to six, with his fine lowered from RM210 million to RM50 million.
