Gulf Air orders 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners as it seeks to expand network
Boeing said the agreement, once finalised, would bring Gulf Air's order book to 14 of the wide-body jets and support 30,000 jobs in the US.
'This agreement marks a transformative step in Gulf Air's strategic growth journey as we expand our global footprint and modernise our fleet with one of the industry's most advanced and efficient aircraft,' said Khalid Taqi, chairman of Gulf Air Group.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick valued the deal at $7 billion.
'This agreement reflects that American industry and tech are second to NONE. Our Made-in-America commercial aircraft are the most advanced and efficient in the world, and the world knows it,' he said in a tweet.
The announcement was made after Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa 's meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington earlier this week.
The announcement was part of a broader $17 billion investment deals made by Bahrain and the US earlier on Wednesday. Aircraft deals were also part of trade accords Mr Trump previously announced with the UK and Vietnam.
We're very happy to be announcing $17 billion worth of deals that are coming to the United States. And this is real,' Mr Al Khalifa said.
It also comes two months after Mr Trump's visit to the Gulf region, where aircraft deals were made with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE. During the trip, Qatar Airways also announced an order for 210 aircraft from Boeing, which the US manufacturer said was the largest order for 787 Dreamliners.
Earlier on Wednesday, Gulf Air announced it would begin flights from Bahrain to New York's John F Kennedy Airport beginning in October. The airline carrier will be deploying the Boeing 787-9 for the long-haul flight.
Gulf Air currently flies to 60 destinations today. It hopes to increase its network by 25 per cent within five years. The Manama-based carrier is seeking to expand its presence in financial hubs, leisure markets and major pilgrimage centres.
The announcement mirrors that of one announced by Mr Trump on Tuesday, in which he said Indonesia would purchase 50 Boeing jets as part of a trade deal between the two countries.
Gulf Air is also considering switching away from Rolls-Royce to General Electric to power wide-body aircraft, Bloomberg reported. Gulf Air Group Holding chief executive Jeffrey Goh has previously warned that the UK engine builder must find a quick solution to its durability issues.
He also said the carrier has had to reduce its flight frequencies and also delay or cancel some flights due to engine issues.

UAE leads key markets in HNW allocation to sustainable investments
High-net-worth investors in the UAE allocate 27 per cent of their portfolios to sustainable investments, the highest among all eight markets surveyed, a report showed on Tuesday. According Standard Chartered's latest Sustainable Banking Report 2025, 87 per cent of UAE investors are interested in transition investing, broadly in line with the global average. The report, titled 'Transition investing: the next wealth frontier?' is based on a survey of high-net-worth individuals across the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Mainland China, India, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore. It explores how investors are approaching the shift to a low-carbon economy and identifies the opportunities and challenges associated with transition investing. Rola Abu Manneh, Chief Executive Officer, UAE, Middle East and Pakistan, Standard Chartered, said: 'The findings reaffirm the UAE's leadership in sustainable finance, with UAE high-net-worth investors allocating the highest share of their portfolios to transition investments across all surveyed markets. This growing momentum supports the country's Net Zero 2050 vision and reflects a broader shift towards low-carbon, future-focused investment strategies. At Standard Chartered, we are committed to enabling this transition by providing the insights and solutions that help investors capitalise on emerging opportunities and contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable economy.' The UAE's strong allocation is mirrored in the specific investment themes gaining prominence across the country. UAE investors are particularly focused on high-impact investment themes that align with the UAE's energy diversification goals and broader climate commitments. Green hydrogen (51 per cent), carbon markets (48 per cent), and carbon capture and storage (47 per cent) emerged as the most compelling areas of interest, reflecting a growing focus on real economy solutions that support the transition to a low-carbon future. While investor appetite is strong, the research identifies key barriers slowing broader capital deployment into transition strategies including higher risks (45 per cent) and limited access to credible products (36 per cent). These findings suggest that unlocking further capital will depend on building trust, enhancing product transparency, and improving access to well-structured solutions. Although interest in the UAE and other surveyed markets is high, the research also reveals a broader knowledge gap. Only a small proportion of global investors (15 per cent) were able to clearly define the concept of transition investing before being presented with a formal definition and examples. This highlights the ongoing need for investor education and clearer market guidance. To help bridge this gap, Standard Chartered has launched a Transition Investing Guide designed to support clients in assessing credible opportunities and contributing meaningfully to the global transition.

Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange signs MoU with Budapest Stock Exchange
The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX), one of the fastest-growing and leading exchanges in the Middle East, and the Budapest Stock Exchange (BSE), the second-largest exchange in Central and Eastern Europe, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on a number of key initiatives. The signing took place on the sidelines of the state visit of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to Hungary. The signing ceremony took place at the offices of the BSE in the presence of Saud Hamad Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Hungary. The MoU sets out to deepen relations between the two countries' capital markets and share best practices. The agreement also marks another important step in the BSE's efforts to build international relations, including in the Middle East. The development dovetails well with ADX's ongoing efforts and initiatives to strengthen relationships with leading global financial institutions. Within the framework of the agreement, the two parties will seek, among other things, to promote the visibility of the Hungarian and UAE capital markets by organising joint events such as investor roadshows, seminars and educational programs. The parties are also exploring the possibility of cooperation in the development and promotion of ETF products in order to provide investors in both markets with more diversified and modern instruments. The BSE and ADX will also analyse the possibilities of dual listings and cross-border trading. The two exchanges are also planning closer professional cooperation in the field of ESG. A key part of the agreement is the sharing and exchange of best practices, including on market developments, regulatory practices, product development and IT capacity building. The two parties will explore and evaluate appropriate pathways for the BSE to become part of the Tabadul Hub, a pioneering platform launched by ADX in 2022. As the region's first digital exchange based on a mutual market access model, Tabadul facilitates seamless cross-border trading by connecting exchanges through a digital network and enabling brokerage firms to provide remote access to international markets. On the signing of the MoU, Abdulla Salem Alnuaimi, Group CEO of Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX), said, 'This collaboration with the Budapest Stock Exchange marks a key milestone in ADX's global integration journey, establishing a strong foundation for enhanced cooperation and innovation. Together, we aim to develop new financial products, including ETFs, indices, and other investment vehicles, to serve both local and international investors. The partnership also explores opportunities for cross-listings between the two markets, while the Tabadul Hub will further enhance digital connectivity and remote market access. This strategic alliance reinforces Abu Dhabi's position as a dynamic and globally connected financial centre committed to sustainable growth and shared prosperity.' Tibor Tóth, CEO of the Budapest Stock Exchange, emphasised that the partnership not only strengthens the relationship between the two exchanges but also opens new opportunities for Hungarian and Emirati investors. 'We are confident that these new initiatives will make our markets even more attractive to both domestic and international investors. Tabadul is a unique platform and initiative providing exciting opportunities for BSE'. This strategic collaboration is set to provide a robust platform for financial growth and connectivity between the UAE and Hungary, reflecting ADX's and BSE's commitment to global economic progress.
