Lady Vols face elimination after Super Regional loss to Nebraska

Yahoo24-05-2025

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Lady Vols face elimination after dropping the opening game of the Super Regional against Nebraska on Friday by a score of 5-2.
Tennessee ace Karlyn Pickens got the start but was replaced Sage Mardjetko after allowing 5 runs in 3.2 innings. National Player of the Year finalist Jordy Bahl pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits to secure the win for the Cornhuskers.

Bahl is also Nebraska's leadoff hitter, and led things off in the first with a single. After a pop-up and strikeout from Pickens, Nebraska took the lead with two outs. Olivia DiNardo hit a single up the middle to bring home Bahl for the 1-0 lead.
Bahl also started in the circle for the Huskers, and pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the first to keep Tennessee off the board. Pickens responded with a three up, three down inning of her own with two strikeouts.
Tennessee evened things up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Sophia Nugent mashed a solo home run over the center field wall off of her former teammate at Oklahoma. It marked the catcher's third homer of the NCAA tournament.
However, the Huskers regained the lead in the third. Bahl reached base again, this time on a walk and then ran home on a Samantha Bland RBI double. Pickens picked up her sixth strikeout of the day to strand Bland at second to keep it a one-run game.
Nebraska extended its lead to 3-1 on a Hannah Camenzind solo homer in the bottom of the fourth.

Things then went from bad to worse. Pickens hit Bella Bacon, and then walked Lauren Camenzind to put two runners on. Bahl hit one to short, but a miscommunication between Saviya Morgan and Laura Mealer led to the ball dropping and two Nebraska runs scoring.
That ended Pickens' day as Mardjetko replaced her in the circle. Nebraska loaded the bases but Mardjetko forced a pop out to end the threat.
Bahl continued her strong day in the circle as she pitched another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fourth.

Tennessee cut into Nebraska's lead in the bottom of the fifth. Back-to-back singles from Gabby Leach and Ella Dodge put runners on the corners. The Lady Vols scored a run on a wild pitch, but a groundout ended the inning to keep it 5-2.
Mardjetko was dominant in the circle the rest of the way, not allowing a run or a hit in the final 3.1 innings. The Lady Vols ended the game with two more hits than the Cornhuskers.

20226 3-star ATH out of North Forney (TX) has announced his commitment date

20226 3-star ATH out of North Forney (TX) has announced his commitment date Texas A&M is currently a finalist for several high-profile 2026 prospects, including one of the more underrated athletes in the cycle. Legend Bey, a 2026 three-star athlete and North Forney's (TX) standout dual-threat quarterback, is choosing between Tennessee, West Virginia, Duke, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. On Monday, the standout athlete revealed his upcoming commitment date. Taking to social media (X), Bey revealed that he will announce his commitment on Saturday, June 28, and while all five finalists have a shot at landing him, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff were one of the first Power 4 programs to recognize his talent and elite versatility, slightly similiar to sophomore wide receiver Terrry Bussey, who also played quarterback during his prolific high school career. On paper, running back or wide receiver is his likely position at the next level, and for those unaware of his skillset, all you need to do is turn on the tape. During his 2024 junior season, Bey rushed for 1,912 yards and 41 touchdowns, while throwing for over 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns to boot. Bey's official visit to Texas A&M will take place on June 20, just eight days before his commitment, so it's safe to say that the Aggies are on the fast track to landing his pledge. According to 247Sports, Legend Bey is positioned as the 21st-ranked Athlete and 49th-ranked prospect in Texas. Steelers Replace 'Locker-Room Distraction' Pickens With More Of The Same In Rodgers?

Steelers Replace 'Locker-Room Distraction' Pickens With More Of The Same In Rodgers? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, the anti-George Pickens faction oozed out of the woodwork, accusing the overly-emotional star receiver of being a "bad locker-room guy.'' Advertisement And maybe much of what the Pittsburgh Steelers have whispered and leaked about the talented-but-temperamental receiver Pickens is true. He threw tantrums. Showed up when he wanted to. Seemed selfish as he did his own thing. And the 2025 Steelers simply cannot tolerate such a thing! ... Unless it comes, apparently, from Aaron Rodgers, who comes to Pittsburgh from his two-year stint with the New York Jets not only lugging the baggage of being a faded four-time MVP who at age 41 is trying to hang on for one final go ... But who also brings the baggage of - you guessed it - threw tantrums, showed up when he wanted to and seemed selfish as he did his own thing. Advertisement We're not arguing against Pickens' alleged penchant for creating locker-room drama and distractions. ... or that head coach Mike Tomlin tired of dealing with the nonsense. Nor are we insisting that his new team, the Dallas Cowboys, will wave a behavioral magic wand and fix everything. (Though playing with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb while bidding for a new contract might help George's mood.) What we are wondering is how the Steelers are prepared to deal with the walking distraction that Aaron Rodgers ... simply is. Dangerously wacky theories on the world. Announcing a consideration of a bid to run for Vice President of the United States. The promotion of psychedelic drugs. Skipping camp work to vacation in Egypt. Popping on ESPN with Pat McAfee to blame everyone around him when things go wrong. Advertisement That's part of The Aaron Rodgers Reality. On the field? In 2023, Rodgers got hurt in Week 1 and the Jets flopped to a 7-10 season. In 2024, he was healthy and he played all 17 games ... and he made the Jets worse as they double-flopped to a 5-12 season. And the Jets cut him. Is Rodgers a better player than Pickens? A better teammate? A more focused team-first guy? All of that had better be true ... or the Steelers have just exposed themselves as being somewhere between "hypocrites'' and "poor judges of character.''
