Republicans slap AOC with a fresh ethics violation — over whether or not fiance Riley Roberts is her ‘spouse'
In its July 2025 report, the ethics committee criticized Ocasio-Cortez for listing Roberts as her 'spouse' on federal documents that she filed before attending the 2021 Met Gala. Roberts and Ocasio-Cortez are not yet legally married.
'The Committee also found evidence that Representative Ocasio-Cortez listed Mr. Roberts as her 'spouse' on paperwork filed with the House relating to privately sponsored travel, although the two were not legally married at the time of the gifted travel,' the report states.
Similarly, the ethics panel stated that Roberts was listed as a spouse on the documents to attend the gala, but that he wasn't listed as a spouse in Ocasio-Cortez's financial filings, The Daily Mail noted. If he had been listed as a spouse, he would have been forced to disclose stock and other financial holdings.
'The Committee further notes that at the same time Representative Ocasio-Cortez was seeking to take advantage of exceptions to the Gift Rule only applicable to spouses and/or certain relatives, she was not disclosing Mr. Roberts's financial interests as is required of Members who are legally married,' the report adds.
Last month, Ocasio-Cortez was ordered to pay back thousands of dollars after the ethics panel determined that she had not been paying market rates in connection with her appearance at the Met Gala in 2021. The panel found that the 35-year-old had underpaid for her dress, which said 'tax the rich' across the back, as well as for jewelry and accessories.
In the July 2025 report, the committee states the investigation will be closed after Ocasio-Cortez has paid another $2,700 to vendors for clothing and accessories. The panel said the congresswoman has been cooperating with the investigation.
The committee also criticized that Met Gala organizer and Vogue editor Anna Wintour personally invited Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts to the event.
Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts met while they were both studying at Boston University and have been engaged since April 2022, The Mail noted.
A lawyer for Ocasio-Cortez, David Mitrani, argued in the filings that Roberts is not subject to the financial disclosure rules as he's 'not considered a spouse.'
The committee states that Roberts still enjoyed some of the benefits of being a spouse, such as receiving a spouse's congressional pin, which allowed him to access certain restricted parts of the congressional complex.
'Mr. Roberts and the Congresswoman have been together since 2014, and have lived together since 2016,' the committee states. 'Mr. Roberts has had a spouse pin since the Congresswoman entered Congress in 2019.'
'It is clear that the term 'spouse' – as utilized in this former rule and as seemingly accepted by the Committee by expanding 'spouse or dependent' to any guest – was intended to allow a Member of Congress to bring the individual that they've decided to share their lives with to a charity event, regardless of whether they had taken steps to bring the law or religion into their relationship,' it adds.

Trump may ‘personally intervene' to stop Mamdani becoming New York mayor
Donald Trump is considering getting involved in the New York mayoral race in an effort to stop Zohran Mamdani from winning. The US president reportedly spoke to Andrew Cuomo after he lost the Democratic primary to socialist candidate Mr Mamdani, according to insiders. Mr Trump is also said to have pressed a Republican congressman and a New York businessman about who has the best chance of beating the millennial frontrunner, The New York Times reported. Despite losing to Mr Mamdani, weeks later Mr Cuomo re-entered the race as an independent candidate, adding to an already crowded field. Mr Trump later denied having spoken to Mr Cuomo. Eric Adams, the current mayor, is also running independently, while Curtis Sliwa is the Republican candidate. Mr Trump is said to have been briefed by Mark Penn, a pollster who worked for the Clintons, and Andrew Stein, a former New York City council president, who have both apparently suggested Mr Cuomo would be the best candidate. During a White House meeting in mid-July, Mr Trump asked congressman Mike Lawler, a Republican from the New York suburbs, about who would stand the best chance in a one-on-one race against Mr Mamdani, a source told The New York Times. The source said Mr Trump doubted whether Mr Sliwa could win and said he liked Mr Adams and had always gotten on with Mr Cuomo. It is not clear how Mr Trump would involve himself were he to decide to try and intervene in the race, but allies of Mr Adams and Mr Cuomo have been hoping Mr Trump will help coalesce support around one anti-Mamdani opponent. If all three rivals stay in the race, the vote could splinter and hand Mr Mamdani the keys to Gracie Mansion. Mr Mamdani's promises to freeze rent, open city-run supermarkets and free buses helped him achieve a sweeping victory in the Democratic primary. His campaign, largely run on social media, has capitated voters frustrated with extortionate prices. Mr Trump's conversation with Mr Cuomo reportedly took place when the former New York governor was deciding whether to continue his campaign. While some Republicans view Mr Mamdani as a potentially useful bogeyman of the Left who would provide useful ammunition for the 2026 midterms, Mr Trump is said to be concerned about the Democratic candidate's policies. Mr Trump, who was born and raised in New York and owns several businesses in the city, has publicly criticised Mr Mamdani. Last month, Mr Trump vowed he would not 'let this communist lunatic destroy New York', saying he holds 'all the levers' and 'all the cards'. He added: 'I'll save New York City, and make it 'hot' and 'great' again, just like I did with the good ol' USA!' Rich Azzopardi, a spokesman for Mr Cuomo, said Mr Trump and Mr Cuomo 'have not spoken in a while' but did not expand on how long 'a while' meant. 'As far as I know, they have not discussed the race,' Mr Azzopardi said. Mr Mamdani said in a statement: 'Andrew Cuomo has spent his career governing for the powerful and prioritising his own self-interests over those of the people he was sworn to serve. This is not just a shady backroom deal by a cynical politician, it is disqualifying. It is a betrayal.' Ex-Trump investigator Robert Mueller discovered in memory-care facility as Republicans demand his Epstein testimony
Former FBI Director Robert Mueller, the man who led the Russia investigation into President Donald Trump, has reportedly lived in a memory-care facility for years. Muller, 80, served as the sixth director of the FBI from 2001 until 2013 and the special counsel overseeing the federal government's multi-year investigation into Russia's ties to the 2016 Trump campaign. The probe found that neither Trump nor members of his campaign team coordinated with the Russians on their interference. It did not conclude whether Trump obstructed the investigation, citing DOJ policy not to indict sitting presidents. Mueller's investigation dominated years of news coverage, and Trump frequently lashed out at the special counsel and his efforts, repeatedly labeling the effort as a 'witch hunt' and 'Russia hoax.' Now, just a few years after the bombshell report was released, Mueller is spending time in a memory-care unit, sources familiar with the matter told Real Clear Investigations. 'Sources tell me Mueller has been living in a memory-care facility for the past few years,' reporter Paul Sperry wrote on X Tuesday. The news comes as Mueller is scheduled to sit with the House Oversight Committee investigators regarding the FBI's work relating to Jeffrey Epstein next month. Mueller testified before lawmakers in July 2019 to speak about his investigation. He frequently had to consult his notes during the session The committee is seeking information Mueller may know about Epstein from overseeing the FBI during the pedophile's 2005 Florida prostitution case, a matter in which the FBI eventually intervened. Many critics have said Epstein's sentence in that case was too lenient. The Daily Mail reached out to a former Mueller spokesman for a statement. And one former lawmaker is now saying the signs of Mueller's decline have been evident for years. 'It was clear this is where things were heading when we questioned him before Congress,' ex-Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., posted on social media. 'Mueller was used by some very vicious people,' Gaetz, now a conservative TV host, continued. 'I'm not sure he really ever knew what was happening in the investigation.' Mueller testified before Congress about his report's findings in the summer of 2019. During that hearing, the former special counsel struggled at times to remember the questions from lawmakers, often asking them to repeat their inquiries. He also appeared flustered at times when trying to remember key portions of his probe. During his testimony, he forgot that Fusion GPS, an opposition research firm, was behind the infamous Steele Dossier - a file that alleged false ties between Trump and the Russians that many presume was the origin of the Trump-Russia allegations. A spokesperson for the House Oversight Committee did not respond to the Daily Mail's request for comment on whether they sent Mueller's subpoena to a memory-care unit. Still, the committee's chairman, James Comer, R-Ky., says he is expecting Mueller to show up and talk. Comer posted on his X on Tuesday that Mueller is scheduled to appear for a transcribed interview with the committee on September 2. Other top Trump and Obama administration officials will also testify in the committee's probe into Epstein. Bill and Hillary Clinton are both scheduled to sit with the committee in October. Former Attorneys General Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, Merrick Garland and Trump's former DOJ boss Bill Barr are also expected to talk to the lawmakers. It's a spectacular move by Republicans to pressure Trump's Attorney General Pam Bondi to put out more documents related to the disgraced financier while the administration has been embroiled in controversy over 'cover-up' claims. Bondi has been blamed by both Democrats and Republicans for stalling the release of the files. The Trump administration has since hurried to find out more about the Epstein scandal. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has met with Epstein's accomplice and longtime partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, to speak about what she knows about the late pedophile's crimes. Blanche spent several days in Florida at the detention facility where Maxwell was staying to interview the woman who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking crimes. She has repeatedly claimed she was treated wrongly during her trial, a claim that will soon be argued before the Supreme Court.
