Android phones are surviving stuff they really shouldn't right now

Most of us dread dropping our phones in a puddle or the sink, let alone an ice-covered Arctic river. But one Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra just shrugged it off and powered on like nothing happened.
According to Samsung Newsroom, Swedish wilderness guide Mikael Krekula was out on the frozen Kalix River testing sonar gear when his Galaxy S23 Ultra slipped from his glove and dropped into an ice fishing hole. It plunged around three meters into the freezing water and was trapped beneath the ice for the next five hours.
Determined not to give up, Mikael drilled several new holes in the surrounding ice and fashioned a series of tools — including birch branches, a plastic bag, and eventually a summer fishing net tied to a stick — to try and fish it out. After hours of effort, he finally succeeded. To his shock, the phone powered on immediately, displaying a few missed calls as if everything was totally normal.

You can still get a free gift card when you buy a new Samsung foldable phone

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority These offers are available from Amazon. As such, the freebies are Amazon gift cards, so you can only use them with the popular online retailer. You can use the credits for anything available from Amazon. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 + $200 Amazon Gift Card Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 + $200 Amazon Gift Card Thin, light, high-powered, and it folds! The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers an 8-inch OLED screen, a 200MP camera, the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, and a 4,400mAh battery. The Galaxy AI experience is baked in, offering tools across the camera, Circle to Search, and much more. Best of all, Samsung continues to evolve their fold folding hinge assembly, promising reduced visibility of the crease. See price at Amazon Save $200.00 Limited Time Deal! To many, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the very best foldable smartphone in the industry. It's also quite expensive at just a penny under $2,000, though. You'll want to take advantage of any deal you can get! While this isn't a discount, many of us already shop at Amazon, so the $200 Amazon gift card will come in handy. I actually use Amazon for some of my grocery shopping, so I will end up saving anyway. You're still paying a premium price, so you should expect to get a premium smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold is as good as foldable phones get. For starters, it is very powerful, featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and 12GB of RAM. Performance is up there with the best Android phones. Ryan Haines / Android Authority Of course, the main highlight is the internal display. It is large at a whopping 8.0 inches, edging on tablet territory. It also features a Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X screen with a sharp 2,184 x 1,968 resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This makes it an amazing device for watching videos, playing games, or even general browsing. It also makes it an impressive multitasking machine, allowing you to easily enjoy multiple windows and apps simultaneously. You won't always want to unfold the device or use the giant screen, though. It uses a lot of power, and comes with an extra step. The 6.5-inch external screen makes it easier to take care of quick tasks. The design is sleek and sturdy, featuring an aluminum frame and an IP48 rating, making it both water—and dust-resistant. The camera system, while not up there with the Galaxy S25 series, is relatively good. It also comes with a 4,400mAh battery, which is honestly not that impressive. That said, making a foldable phone comes with its sacrifices, and these are very common in the world of foldables. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 + $200 Amazon Gift Card Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 + $200 Amazon Gift Card A good flip phone that could have been more The Galaxy Z Flip 7 offers some of Samsung's most impressive flip phone hardware ever, featuring a 4.1-inch edge-to-edge cover screen and a thickness of just 13.7mm when closed. It also has a larger 6.9-inch inner display, good general performance, and seven years of Android updates. The Flip 7 is a great buy for Samsung fans, but if you're willing to look at the competition, there are better options available. See price at Amazon Save $200.00 Limited Time Deal! Those who prefer smaller phones will love the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. It easily fits in any pocket without adding much bulk. It's also nice that it's nowhere near $2,000! This one goes for $1,099.99. It's still pricey, but much more reasonable, especially considering you get a free $200 gift card right now. Performance is still quite impressive, thanks to the Samsung Exynos 2500 chipset and 12GB of RAM. This is more than enough to keep most users happy; you would have to really push its limits to notice any slowdowns. Joe Maring / Android Authority The main internal display measures 6.9 inches. It's still a gorgeous Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel with a sharp Full HD+ resolution and smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The external display is much smaller than the Fold's at 4.1 inches, but that is actually a very nice size for a flip phone. It can handle quick tasks and notifications perfectly. The design is just as nice, with an aluminum frame, and it also comes with an IP48 rating. And while the device is significantly smaller than the Fold 7, the battery isn't that much smaller at 4,300mAh. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE + $100 Amazon Gift Card Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE + $100 Amazon Gift Card Budget-friendly Galaxy Z Flip With as few compromises as possible to bring the price down, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE rocks a 6.7-inch main display, a 3.4-inch front display, and an Exynos chipset. See price at Amazon Save $100.00 Limited Time Deal! While not exactly cheap, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is for those who want a quality flip phone at a lower price. It's $899.99, and this one comes with a free $100 Amazon gift card. All things considered, the differences between the Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE aren't that huge. Casual users will still be happy with it. It has a decent Exynos 2400 processor and 8GB of RAM. It's not as impressive, for sure, but it's more than enough to keep the device running smoothly most of the time. C. Scott Brown / Android Authority The battery is also smaller at 4,000mAh, but it keeps the same camera system as the main Flip 7. The 6.7-inch screen is smaller, but it has the same Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel, Full HD+ resolution, and 120Hz refresh rate. That said, the external screen is smaller at 3.4 inches. The aluminum frame and IP48 rating are also the same. Are you getting any of these new Samsung foldable phones? The free gift card offers have already been around for a while, so we can't imagine they will last much longer. Take advantage of these offers while you can! Follow

Helldivers 2 CEO says "we know the game isn't in tip top shape right now" and Arrowhead devs are back from vacation to focus "100% on bug fixing and optimization"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead is well aware of the myriad bugs and optimization issues players are dealing with, and after a two-week vacation reset, CEO Shams Jorjani has committed to focusing on that stuff. Right about two weeks ago, the official Arrowhead Twitter account shared, "the team is entering Swedish Summer Protocol: 2 weeks of lakes, fika & tactical sunbathing," assuring determined freedom fighters, "service continues, the Galactic War rages on, and Super Earth still needs you. We'll be back soon, recharged and ready to drop even harder." Well, true to its word, the folks at Arrowhead took the next couple of weeks off, and their break just happened to start a few days after a balance patch dropped. It seems that update came with some bugs of its own, as Jorjani acknowledged on the official Helldivers 2 Discord that the game needs bug squashing and optimization. To be clear, these messages were sent shortly after Arrowhead jetted off on its vacation, but it's notable that Jorjani explicitly committed to addressing the game's performance post-vacation. "Most people are back on the 4th (office closure ends)," Jorjani said. "And we'll be focusing 100% on bug fixing and optimization. Sorry for the inconvenience. We know the game isn't in tip top shape right now." Jorjani also admitted "we should have left things in a better state with the last update." Since it sounds like the majority of the Helldivers team just got back to the office today, they'll presumably be head down on bugs and optimization for a little while, but Jorjani also confirmed armor color customization is "high on the list" and that "we want to take our time with such a feature" and not rush anything "until it's in a good place." "So probably not coming soon, but coming," he said. Helldivers 2 players ask for better UI with in-game info but joke it "would break 50% of the game," director says "that's mean... and also sadly true" but "we are working on an improved system"

Google Confirms Pixel 10 Pro Details With Attack On Rivals

With a simple caption of 'Google Pixel 10: Soon', the competitive tension ahead of August's 'Made By Google' launch event has been elevated. In addition, Google has also leaned into the competition to highlight why customers might be better off buying the upcoming Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro smartphones: The Pixel 10 Pro Challenge To paraphrase Wikipedia: Diss Track; a song whose primary purpose is to verbally attack someone else, usually another artist. Diss tracks are often the result of an existing, escalating feud between the two people. It's hard not to think that Google's latest teaser video of the Pixel 10 family doesn't fall under this classic definition. While it holds short of naming the 'new phone with a feature coming soon, that has been coming soon for a full year', there's no manufacturer other than Apple, no other smartphone other than the iPhone, that this could apply to. Rather than who, the more interesting question is perhaps why, and why now? The Pixel 10 Pro Builds on Today's Strength One reason may be the current state of the smartphone market. The Android platform, no matter the manufacturer, is significantly ahead of iOS and the iPhone. Artificial Intelligence can be found in numerous digital assistants; some are voice-based, others are on-device clients that help sift through information to offer better feedback and present options. These are all heavily promoted and have unlocked many new features across all ranges. Pixel is no different, although it does have some advantages in being able to tap directly into Google's AI services. It also pushes the other side of the OS coin. The competition, Apple, is not delivering the same experience as Android. The buzz around artificial intelligence is not going away, and if all of that buzz can be focused on your own product and not the competition, that's going to be a benefit both in the short and the long term. The Competition Is Behind The Pixel 10 Pro Tim Cook's Apple is fully aware of this. With previous technological leaps, the perception that Apple is late to the market but comes in with the right solution has been a strong market force in both the allure of Apple and framing its hardware at the apex. This has not been the case with AI. The awkwardly backronymed Apple Intelligence will always be on the back foot when compared to Google's approach due to a higher reliance of on-device processing and reducing a user's digital footprint outside of their smartphone. That's a technical answer, and one that is relatively clear-cut with the geekerati, but it's not as simple a sell to the general consumers. They see an Apple product that does not match the competition… and those who haven't yet made the connection now have this latest video to nudge them towards Google's framing of AI, rather than Apple. Extending AI With Pixel 10 Pro Google is setting the ground for its upcoming expansion of mobile artificial intelligence. Android 16 brings a raft of new features and will make its debut on the competitively priced Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro smartphones… phones that Google has once again confirmed it will be launching on Aug. 20. Not only will the Pixel 10 family show off the new version of Android to the public, but it will also bring with it Google's own first-party apps and services that are unique to Google. These will, as in previous years, offer significant support to users through AI. Waiting For The Pixel 10 Pro In this latest video, Google has stated it is in the lead with AI, its competition has failed to deliver, and it is ready to provide more AI with the new Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro smartphones. Now to see how it delivers on those claims at the end of the month. Read the latest Pixel 10 Pro decisions made by Google…
