Dehradun, Jun 5 (PTI) Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday planted a sapling at his official residence on the occasion of World Environment Day, according to a statement.
Municipal Corporation Rudrapur was honored with the Sunder Lal Bahuguna Nature and Environment Conservation Award-2025 (Government Category). Deputy Municipal Commissioner Shipra Joshi from Municipal Corporation Rudrapur received the award.
Vijay Jaddhari and Pratap Singh Pokhriyal were honored with the Sunder Lal Bahuguna Nature and Environment Conservation Award-2025 (Non-Government Category).
Dhami also administered the oath of plastic-free Uttarakhand and provided cloth bags to school children.
Dhami directed the Forest Department to plant at least one thousand fruit trees in every forest division of the state this year so that wild animals can get adequate food.
He urged the people of the state and pilgrims visiting the state not to feed animals things that are harmful to their health.
He called upon the residents to plant trees on birthdays, wedding anniversaries and other important occasions.

The Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) announced its Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET-2025) results on Friday and Shishir H. Out of them, 3,330 candidates are from Karnataka. Similarly, 11,446 candidates are between 80 and 90 percentile, among which, 3,050 candidates are from Karnataka. As against the 1,31,937 candidates that registered, around 1,13,111 (37,715 Karnataka and 75,396 non-Karnataka) candidates appeared for the test which was held on May 10 and 25, 2025. As many as 69 candidates challenged the answer keys. The authorities clarified that counselling would be conducted online, and the candidates have to upload the scanned copies of the documents through their login. These uploaded documents will be verified by the panel of expert verification officers.

HPCL Visakh Refinery exhorts people to do their part to save planet
Visakhapatnam: As part of World Environment Day celebrations at HPCL – Visakh Re-finery, a valedictory function was organised in the refinery. In his address, executive director (I/C) – Visakh Refinery R Ramakrish-nan stressed the importance of environmental protection and respon-sibility of individuals. While explaining this year's theme focusing on 'beat plastic pollution', he cited how each individual can contribute to reducing plastic pollution by using biodegradable materials in place of single-use plastic. Later, the World Environment Day pledge was administered to the employees by Abhishek Trivedi ED-VRMP, Ramesh Krishnan ED-Operations and Commissioning and B Ravi HoD- Technical. Prizes were given away to winners of various competitions like slogan, online quiz, poetry, photography, painting and memes. Street plays were organised in residential areas at Sriharipuram and Malkapuram. The refinery created awareness on the ill-effects of plastic pollution and biodegradable alternatives to plastic pollution among contract workers. Cloth bags and saplings of different varieties were distribut-ed to people. G Bhagavan, GM-Technical, briefed about several activities carried out by the refinery. Refinery employees, their family members, chil-dren and winners of various competitions attended.

Nagpur: In a strong demonstration of its commitment to sustainability, the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM-N) celebrated World Environment Day by highlighting a series of impactful eco-friendly initiatives that position the institute as a leader in environmental stewardship among India's educational institutions. Our green campus efforts show how educational institutes can set an example by taking real action," said Dr Bhimaraya Metri, director of IIM Nagpur. IIM Nagpur's sustainability vision is anchored in six key projects that work in harmony to reduce the campus's environmental impact and promote green living. One of the most significant efforts is the integration of solar energy. A 2MW power project is underway which will make IIMN completely self-sustained for its energy needs. "Our solar infrastructure serves a dual purpose: reducing our carbon footprint and providing students with a live demonstration of renewable energy in action," Dr Metri added. Water conservation is another cornerstone of the institute's strategy. Rainwater harvesting systems are installed across the campus, recharging groundwater and reducing reliance on municipal water supplies, particularly during dry periods. In tandem, campus buildings have been designed with passive cooling, natural lighting, and energy-efficient insulation to minimise energy use for lighting and climate control. Wastewater is fully treated and reused for landscaping and other non-potable purposes through a closed-loop system, ensuring zero discharge into the environment.
