Achakzai slams divvying up of PTI's reserved seats
Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad, Achakzai said that the government was violating the Constitution, destroying the judiciary and disrespecting the people's mandate. The court decision, he said, deprived the PTI of its share in the reserved seats.
"We believe in the supremacy of the Constitution and the law. But here people are being enslaved," Achakzai said. "Today, the Constitution is being disrespected. Now the PML-N [Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz] and the PPP [Pakistan Peoples Party] are undermining the spirit of the Constitution."
The PkMAP chief said that he might have many differences with the PTI, but still he believed that the party faced great injustices. He claimed that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) acted in a biased manner, while the Supreme Court snatched its electoral symbol of bat.
He charged that the current government also lacked credibility because it was formed at "gunpoint". He also accused National Assembly speaker of being biased. He said that remaining silent in these circumstances would be tantamount to "criminal negligence".

SC questions LHC's decision in Imran bail rejection ruling
The Supreme Court issued a notice on Tuesday to the prosecution in a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, challenging the Lahore High Court's (LHC) rejection of his post-arrest bail in eight cases linked to May 9 incidents. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi and comprising Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the case. The bench headed by CJP Afridi observed that the court would not give any final finding that could affect the merits of the pending case. CJP Afridi asked the both the defence and prosecution counsels to assist the court on the legal question of whether final observations can be made in a bail order. He noted that the LHC had given a final opinion in its bail decision, raising the question of whether such findings were permissible. The decision, delivered by a two-member bench led by Justice Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, followed the conclusion of arguments from both prosecution and defence. Imran's legal team had argued that the former prime minister was implicated without credible evidence while he was already in custody and denied any involvement in the violence. Before the apex court on Tuesday, Punjab government counsel Zulfiqar Naqvi told the court that no notice had been issued to them in the matter, to which the CJP said the notice would be issued today. Denying PTI counsel Salman Safdar's request to prepone the hearing, the court slated the hearing for August 19 as per schedule. Protests on May 9, 2023, broke out across the country after Imran's arrest from the premises of Islamabad High Court (IHC), where he appeared for a hearing in connection with a graft case. Several civil and military installations were damaged during the protests and ensuing chaos. Imran, who has been jailed since August 2023 after multiple convictions, remains a central figure in Pakistani politics despite his ouster in April 2022 through a no-confidence vote. Several PTI leaders and workers remain incarcerated over the May 9 incidents, while others have been granted bail.

Large tract of land linked to POs in ‘Al-Qadir Trust case' auctioned
ISLAMABAD: The authorities on Monday auctioned a large tract of land in the capital linked to proclaimed offenders (POs) in the high-profile Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, which names former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife among the accused. However, officials denied reports that Imran Khan's personal residence in Bani Gala was part of the sale, stating that the former prime minister and his wife are not POs. A total of 405 kanals– approximately 50 acres – of agricultural land in Islamabad's Moza Mohra Noor area was auctioned at a price of Rs3.42 million per kanal, in a court-ordered move overseen by the local administration and an auction committee. The auction follows the January court declaration of six individuals, including Farhat Shehzadi alias Farah Gogi, Zulfi Bukhari, and Mirza Shehzad Akbar, as proclaimed offenders (POs) in connection with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference – commonly known as the Al-Qadir Trust case. Two other properties – a 16-kanal plot on Islamabad's Club Road and an additional 248-kanal tract of agricultural land – were also listed for auction but received no bids. Assistant Commissioner Secretariat Uzair Ali Khan supervised the process, though the auction committee arrived over six hours late. Prior public notices had been issued, inviting bidders to submit a Rs5 million pay order in the name of the NAB chairman to participate. Reacting to reports circulating on social media that Imran Khan's personal residence was under auction, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja dismissed them as inaccurate. 'The Bani Gala residence is not part of any auction. Monday's notice pertains only to properties owned by absconding co-accused in the NAB reference,' he posted on X, adding that PTI's legal team is actively monitoring the situation. A NAB spokesperson confirmed that the properties being auctioned are linked to fugitives and not to Imran Khan himself. 'There are no court orders for the auction of Imran Khan's assets. The £190 million case does not include any of his properties,' the official said. The Al-Qadir Trust case relates to allegations that Imran Khan and his associates misused authority in the handling of £190 million repatriated from the UK during his tenure. Punjab minister steps up criticism of PTI
LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bokhari, has said that the nation will celebrate Independence Day on August 14 with great fervour and will also mark the success of Operation Bunyan Marsoos; meanwhile, a disruptive faction is conspiring to create unrest on this national occasion, she said. Azma Bokhari expressed her dismay that certain political elements try to politicise every national event. 'Protesting on a national day is not the agenda of any patriotic political party,' she said, adding, 'This is the same group that emerged from the 2014 sit-ins and has since made agitation and protests their hobby.' She emphasised that PTI has no regard for national or religious events, as their politics revolves solely around creating division and chaos. Issuing a strong warning, Bokhari said that the law will take its course if anyone attempts to take the law into their own hands. 'Even on August 5, no significant protest was seen in Punjab — and the same will happen again,' she asserted. 'The people of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are now fed up with PTI's toxic politics, she said.' Advising the PTI leadership, she urged them to call off their planned protest on August 14, saying: Show patriotism for once — if there's any sense of Pakistani identity and humanity left. In a sharp critique, she remarked that the group blindly following Prisoner No. 420 has reached the pinnacle of ignorance. But the nation has seen through their agenda and has rejected their brand of politics, she added. Azma concluded by saying that no anarchist group will be allowed to sabotage the nation's celebrations.
