Indian migrant worker fell to his death from HDB flat; MOM assists his family
SINGAPORE: An Indian migrant worker fell to his death from a 19th-floor HDB flat at 186 Boon Lay Ave last week.
According to Channel 8 reporters, the migrant worker had worked as a truck driver prior to his passing. His landlord said that he had occupied the unit for over five years, since 2020.
Channel 8 also reported that pawn tickets and casino tickets were found among the late worker's personal belongings.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is working closely with the migrant worker's employer to assist the deceased worker's family. Expressing their deepest condolences, MOM said that it is helping to arrange for the worker's body to be repatriated to India.

Yet another Singapore driver caught illegally pumping cheap petrol in JB
Featured News Singapore News MALAYSIA: Yet another Singapore-registered car driver has been caught on camera illegally pumping subsidised RON95 petrol from a petrol station in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The latest incident took place on Saturday (9 Aug), coincidentally Singapore's National Day. Malaysian authorities have confirmed to local paper China Press that they have launched an investigation into the matter. The photograph published by China Press shows a male driver of a white car with a Singapore license plate filling his petrol tank with RON95 petrol. As it is a subsidised petrol, RON95 is only supposed to be sold to Malaysians. Foreign drivers are prohibited from pumping RON95 petrol. Malaysian authorities have pointed out that the incident could have been prevented as the petrol pump was located right in front of the counter. Questioning whether the petrol station operator was negligent, the authorities have said that they will review surveillance footage to check if the operator has violated the law. Some politicians in Malaysia are also calling for enforcement action against the foreign drivers who flout rules as well, instead of only targeting petrol station operators. These politicians are calling on the government to update current regulations to allow the authorities to take action directly against drivers. This is the second such incident so far in August alone. On Aug 3, another Singapore-registered car driver was caught on camera illegally pumping RON95 petrol. Singaporeans dish on mistakes they made at work that almost got them fired
SINGAPORE: Navigating the stresses of a job can be tricky, and when people make mistakes, it can sometimes be enough to get them fired. Or close enough. When a local Reddit user recently shared the mistake they made that got them in hot water, they asked others where they had made similar errors. In a post on r/askSingapore from Aug 4, u/Feeling-Bunch-212 wrote that at work, they are responsible for work passes for the foreigners in the company. However, they forgot to renew one of the employees' Employment Passes (EPs). They found out about the problem when the employee was at immigration, as the officer told him that his EP had expired the day before. 'I felt my life went down the drain at that point. Genuinely wanted to die. Half of me was thinking that it is his responsibility to take note of his EP expiry, or at least wonder why HR didn't reach out to him for renewal, but the bigger rational part of me knows that it is my responsibility to ensure a valid work pass is in place, and I completely missed it,' the post author wrote. A commenter wrote about an incident with their colleague, who 'accidentally left the client payroll file with everyone's salaries on another client table from Finance, who is not supposed to view such information. Client HR director was very angry and lodged a formal complaint. Not sure what happens in the end, but that guy was withdrawn from the audit team.' Others also wrote about instances when a payroll file, which is supposedly 'sacred' to companies, mistakenly got sent to those who weren't supposed to see it, with the sender getting into trouble. 'I was listening in to a conference call while showering but forgot to turn video off,' a commenter shared. 'I was a very immature intern, and one time out of frustration with the number of changes I had to make for a client, I named one of my layers 'f*** this s***'. Just so happens the client requested more changes when I was on MC, so the other staff took over. I see an email come in from my creative director with a screenshot of my layers, and I'm absolutely horrified.
