Woman charged with 28 counts of cheating involving RM172,985 in commission
BUTTERWORTH: A former senior purchasing executive of a company pleaded not guilty in the magistrate's court here today to 28 charges of cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of goods.
A.Puvanesvari, 51, was alleged to have deceived Altrapac Sdn Bhd into believing that there was a project to supply goods, prompting a man, who is an agent for the company, to deposit commission money between RM1,000 and RM19,500 in 28 transactions totalling RM172,985 into four different bank accounts controlled by her.
She was charged with committing the offence at Vista Perdana, Jalan Bagan Jermal here, between April 26 and June 24, 2024.
The charge, framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to 10 years and whipping and is liable to a fine, upon conviction.
Magistrate Aini Adilah Muhammad Faizal allowed the woman bail of RM1,000 for each charge with one surety and set June 6 for mention.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Siti Marissa Safina Saiful Adli requested bail at RM5,000 for each charge with one surety, but lawyer Teh See Khoon, representing the accused, appealed for a minimum bail as the woman was no longer working and now relied on her husband's income of RM3,000 to support their three school-going children.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the bus was carrying 42 UPSI students, eight men and 32 women, aged between 21 and 23, all from the east coast. He said the bus, which was registered in Kedah, had been privately chartered by the students and the group departed from Jertih, Terengganu at 9 pm on Sunday and was en route to their campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak when the crash occurred at KM53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB) in Banun, Gerik, early this morning. 'This tragic accident has resulted in 15 fatalities. All the bodies are currently awaiting post-mortem. Thirteen of the deceased have been sent to Raja Perempuan Bainun Hospital, while two others were taken to Gerik Hospital. 'Twenty-seven others – 23 women and four men – suffered injuries. The bus driver, aged 40, and his 54-year-old co-driver were also hurt in the incident,' Noor Hisam told a press conference at the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters today. Noor Hisam said that the driver and passengers of the MPV, namely a couple aged 37 and 36, as well as their six-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, were also injured and taken to Baling Hospital, Kedah, for treatment. 'Other than Baling Hospital, other injured victims were also taken to Gerik Hospital, Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and Taiping Hospital,' he said. He said police could not release the official list of the victims yet as the post-mortem process is still ongoing. He said detailed investigations are also being done, including from the technical aspects, human negligence, and past criminal records, with cooperation from all relevant agencies, namely the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) and the Malaysian Road Safety Research Institute (MIROS). 'The road where the accident occurred is winding and downhill (hilly)…It was dark and had no lights except for the area near Tasik Banding, but it is still too early to draw any conclusions. Singaporean man in Skudai road rage incident remanded
JOHOR BAHRU: A Singaporean man, who was detained yesterday to assist in the investigation in connection with an altercation with another driver and vandalism of a car in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai, has been remanded for four days until June 12. Johor Bahru Utara police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh confirmed this when contacted by Bernama today. 'The suspect has been remanded for four days until June 12,' he said briefly. The 40-year-old was arrested yesterday following a report on a viral road rage incident where the suspect was involved in an argument with a local man and kicked the complainant's car, causing damage. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect has no criminal record and tested negative for drugs. He will be brought to the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court today for the remand process.
