In a world where Bollywood and Hollywood are often viewed as the alpha and omega of global cinema, a little-known filmmaker from Bihar dared to chart an untrodden path—right into the heart of Latin America. Meet Prabhakar Sharan , a Motihari-born dreamer who broke cinematic borders, made a Spanish-language movie in Costa Rica in 2017, and cast none other than WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner as the villain. Yes, you read that right—a Bihari filmmaker directing a Bollywood-style Latin movie with a wrestling icon playing the bad guy.Born in Motihari, Bihar, Sharan left India in 2000 with stars in his eyes and an actor's fire in his belly. His destination? Not Mumbai or LA—but Costa Rica, a country few Indians had ever considered a launching pad for cinematic dreams. There, while pursuing his studies at Universidad Panamericana, he noticed something curious: Latin Americans had a deep affection for the colourful, melodramatic storytelling of Bollywood. Spotting this cultural resonance, he began distributing Hindi films across Central America, even at the cost of personal financial losses. But his passion for storytelling never wavered.Over the years, Sharan didn't just integrate with Latin culture—he blended it with Indian sensibilities. In 2010, he became a board member of the university he once attended, and by 2017, the stars finally aligned when Costa Rican producer Teresa Rodriguez backed his ambitious plan: to make a full-blown Bollywood-style film in Spanish. The result was Enredados: La Confusión, a film bursting with songs, drama, love, and action—crafted with the flair of Bollywood and the rhythm of Latin cinema. Shot across India, Costa Rica, and Panama, it featured a massive cast of over 1,200 actors and extras from both worlds. But what truly grabbed headlines was the casting of wrestling legend and Hollywood actor Scott Steiner as the antagonist. Yes, the same Scott Steiner known for his towering physique and wrestling bravado was now donning a villain's cape in a Latin-Bollywood fusion flick. The film wasn't just a novelty; it was a cultural milestone. Enredados was hailed by both local audiences and diplomatic circles. The Costa Rican Film Commission called it a "landmark in Latin cinema," while Indian embassies across Central America threw their weight behind it. Ambassadors from Panama, Nicaragua, and El Salvador attended the premieres, applauding the film as a powerful example of cultural diplomacy. What Prabhakar Sharan achieved with Enredados was more than just cinematic crossover—it was cultural fusion in its truest sense. He became the first Indian citizen to direct and act in a Spanish-language Latin American film. In India, the movie was rebranded as 1 Chor 2 Mastikhor and slated for release in Hindi and Bhojpuri, further underlining his commitment to creating bridges between audiences. His contributions haven't gone unnoticed. Sharan has been honoured across the globe: from the Dehradun and Delhi film festivals to being named Best Debut Actor at the Los Angeles Film Festival. He's served on the judging panel for Miss India World USA and even been recognised by the Costa Rican government for his contributions to education and Indo-Latin cultural exchange. In a world increasingly obsessed with genres and geographies, Prabhakar Sharan is a refreshing anomaly. His story is proof that cinematic dreams know no boundaries—linguistic, cultural, or national. From the dusty lanes of Bihar to the cinematic corridors of Costa Rica, his journey is a reminder that belief, backed by persistence, can script stories the world never saw coming. And if your next Spanish film hero or villain feels like they've stepped straight out of a Bollywood set—don't be surprised. A Bihar-born filmmaker probably had something to do with it.

Vivek Agnihotri Targets TMC Amid The Bengal Files Row: "FIRs Filed On Us By Ruling Party Members"
New Delhi: After the trailer launch of The Bengal Files was disrupted in Kolkata, filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri targeted the state government and said that "FIRs have been filed by ruling party members" on the makers. A ruckus erupted during the release of The Bengal Files trailer in Kolkata on August 16. The Bengal Files features actors Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi. It is focused on the events of the "Direct Action Day," aiming to unveil the "most brutal chapter" of Indian history. Speaking to ANI, Agnihotri said, "I am discovering the political scenario. I had thought how anybody can stop the trailer, but when we went to Kolkata, the multiplex refused to show the trailer after all the permissions in writing. Then, the hotel chain stopped showing the trailer. The police the wire then I was told that the ruling party filed many FIRs as we stand here today, the FIRs are filed on us by the ruling party members and I have been told that ruling party has major objection on portrayal of the untold story of Hindu genocide. They have problem with that film about demographic change." Shantanu Mukherjee, grandson of Gopal Mukherjee, filed an FIR against the director. Speaking about the same, he added, "I just don't want to speak as it is a legal matter, but I just want to give you a hint that a lot of people you are mentioning are trying to blackmail us for a long time. They are members of TMC, and that is why they are trying to put pressure on us, but we will take a legal course and solve it all." On August 16, during the event at ITC Royal Bengal, the trailer was suddenly stopped, the director blamed the authorities, saying, "If this is not dictatorship/fascism, then what is? Law and order in your state has failed, and this is the reason that everyone supports 'The Bengal Files'. I have just got to know that some people came here (event venue in a private hotel) and cut all the wires. I don't know on whose orders this is happening? You know who those people are behind us. After all tests and trials, this programme was being held. The hotel managers still can't tell us why we are not allowed to continue with our programme." While speaking to the media, he highlighted the issue and shared, "Police aur party workers ne milkar unconstitutionally hamare trailer ko radd kiya bharat ke ithihas mein kayi filmein ban huyi pehli baar bharat ke itihaas mein ek state government ne ek film ke trailer ko ban kiya hai. This is very scary and worrisome. Jinhone Indian constitution ki oath li hai, hamare judges, ministers, Chief Ministers, ye log Indian constitution ki oath lete aur Indian constitution mein ye likha gaya hai ki state officials jo hai inka ye dharm hai ye duty hai ki ye common logon ke rights ko protect karenge, especially their free speech and safety. Lekin agar rakshak hi bhakshak ban jaye to koi kya lad sakta hai?" He also shared that the film got a good response in the US, "aur hum ko waha ka Capitol Hill mein invite kiya gaya, The Bengal Files ko present karne ke liye." He said that after taking fresh permissions, the team shifted the launch to the hotel in Kolkata. "We called journalists to watch the trailer. As soon as it was played, the hotel manager suddenly came on stage and said it could not be screened," Agnihotri said, claiming that all the preparations were "done in front of the manager." "When the media asked the manager about the issue, we got information that the police and TMC members were on their way to stop the release," Agnihotri alleged. Pallavi Joshi elaborated on the entire incident that happened on August 16: "I was saying that day before yesterday we were trying to launch the trailer of our film in Kolkata, and it was forcibly stopped by the state government and the police. And since then, we've been getting a lot of calls from the media, but instead of talking to each one separately and giving the same answers, we thought that as responsible producers, as responsible filmmakers, we should all come in one place and speak in one voice. Because this is not just a film, this is, in our perception. Whatever happened the day before yesterday, we look at it as a threat to our democracy -- plain and simple." Agnihotri earlier opened up on the cancellation of the trailer launch event of 'The Bengal Files' by a leading movie theatre chain and why he decided to unveil the trailer on August 16. He said, "Mai America se aaya aur seedhe Kolkata pahucha kyunki trailer launch tha and movie trailers are generally launched in theatres; however, when I reached the airport, I came to know that one of the largest multiplex chains said that they can't do it because there is a lot of political pressure and if they do it, there will be a political turmoil. So we spoke to another multiplex, they also said 'sorry sir', there is a lot of political pressure, we can't do it'. If we had known this from the start, why would we have taken on so many teams and actors and spent so much money to come here?" The film explores the communal violence in undivided Bengal during the 1940s, including events like the 1946 Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots of 1946, a Hindu genocide. He added, "Aur Direct Action Day, Hindu genocide, Murshidabad riots, film ka trailer kahan launch hona chahiye? Kolkata mein hi hona chahiye. Par mai bhi harne vaalon me se nahi hu, to aisa pehli baar ho raha hai mera ye andaaz hai ki film ka trailer theatre ki jagah hotel ke banquet hall mai janna chahta hu hamari awaaz dabane ki koshish kyu ho rahi hai.(And where should the trailer of the film dealing with Direct Action Day, Hindu genocide, Murshidabad riots, be launched? It should be launched in Kolkata only, but I'm not one of the losers, so this is happening for the first time. I guess the trailer of the film is being launched in the banquet hall of a hotel instead of a theatre. To hamari awaaz ko dabane ki koshish kyu ki ja rahi hai (but I want to know why efforts are being made to suppress our voice.)" The Bengal Files is slated to hit theatres on September 5, 2025.

120 crew members of Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar hospitalised after suffering from food poisoning in Ladakh
Ranveer Singh's highly-anticipated film Dhurandhar has faced an unexpected setback. According to a report in ANI, several crew members of a film suffered from food poisoning during shooting in Ladakh. Over 120 crew members were admitted to a hospital in Leh after falling ill. Multiple reports suggesting that the film in question is indeed Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar. As per the report, the incident occurred on Sunday, when the affected crew members were rushed to the SNM Hospital in Leh. 'Our doctors were called in for the emergency as the patient rush was very high. By the end of the day, we had about 120 admissions. The situation was handled well, and all of them have been treated,' the medical superintendent at SNM Hospital told ANI. She further revealed that while most patients are now in a stable condition and have been discharged, five remain under observation. The official also confirmed that there were no casualties. 'Some came with severe dehydration, while others had pain in the abdomen, vomiting, acute gastroenteritis, and headache. We received much help from the district administration, and we managed to transfer a few patients to manage the treatment and for crowd management,' she added. The medical superintendent confirmed to the website that the patients were part of a Bollywood film's crew shooting in the area. 'This happened on the film's sets. They apparently had the food arranged on the sets and developed diarrhoea and vomiting. Food samples have been sent for examination, and the final reports are pending,' she said. While reports claim that the incident happened on the sets of Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar, the makers are yet to officially confirm the same. Dhurandhar is written, directed, and produced by Aditya Dhar, who earlier helmed Vicky Kaushal's blockbuster Uri. The film boasts an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. Earlier, the makers released the first look of the film, featuring a bulked-up Ranveer in long hair and beard, sporting a fierce look. The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhara and is scheduled to release on December 5, 2025.
