Ridley season 2 cast: Meet the returning and new characters and actors who play them

Cosmopolitan4 days ago
After far too long away Adrian Dunbar is back in action as consultant detective Alex Ridley for a new season of ITV's Ridley. Landing on our screens this evening Ridley is working once again with DI Carol Farman as the pair set about investigating a series of crimes. And when he's not busy doing that he's singing at the jazz bar, as you do.
The new series kicks off with episode 'A Sleeping Tiger' in which Ridley and Farman investigate the death of a young man named Ryan, who is murdered shortly after his release from the police station after being treated as a suspect for a jewellery shop robbery.
Each of the four episodes will see Ridley and Farman solve different crimes, and so we can expect some of the cast to change each episode. But of course, the regular main characters we've come to know will all be there throughout.
And so this is your guide to all the returning and new cast of Ridley season two.
The full cast of Ridley season 2:
The new cast for Ridley season 2 episode 1:
Who is Alex Ridley?: Ridley our titular character, is a retired police officer who is brought back into help work on some cases. At the start of season one he was still reeling from the deaths of his wife and daughter who were killed in an arson attack. As we head into season two it's likely this trauma is still going to have an impact on him.

What else has Terence Maynard been in?: Terence has been on our screens since the mid 1990s and is best known for working on Coronation Street, Sherwood, The Witcher and Edge of Tomorrow.
Who is Dr Wendy Newston?: Dr Wendy is the chief forensics officer in Ridley and works alongside Ridley and Carol.
What else has Georgia Glen been in?: Georgia is best known for her role in Call The Midwife where she plays Miss Higgins. She's also had roles in Waterloo Road, The Crown and Hetty Feather, amongst many others.
Who is DC Darren Lakhan?: Darren is another member of the police force who often works alongside Ridley and Carol.
What else has George Bukhari been in?: Outside of his role in Ridley, George is best known for starring in Ordinary Lies, Coronation Street, After The Flood and The A Word.
Who is Annie Marling?: Annie is a very good friend to Ridley and also the owner of the jazz bar Ridley often sing in.
What else has Julie Graham been in?: Julie is best known for starring in Shetland as Rhona. She's also been in William and Mary, This City is Ours, and The Bill.
Who is Harry Bentham?: Harry is a new series regular to Ridley season two, and is a local businessman who is building a connection with Annie.
What else has John Michie been in?: You'll most likely know John for his role on Coronation Street where he played Karl Munro. He's also had in Taggart, Casualty and most recently Karen Pirie season two.
Who is Tash Walker?: Tash works in her mum's pub but also has a bigger role to play within the series.
What else has Chloe Harris been in?: Chloe has been on our screens since 2012 and had roles within series such as The Village, The Trial of Christine Keeler, The Spanish Princess and Nolly.
Who is Callum Douglas?: Callum is a suspect in the case.
What else has Kaya Moore been in?: You'll most likely recognise Kaya from his role of Phoenix Taylor in Waterloo Road, which he appeared on for over 30 episodes. He's also had roles in Adolescence and Vera.
Who is Liam Manley?: Liam is a suspect in the case and also has a connection with Tash.
What else has Kerim Hassan been in?: You'll most likely recognise Kerim from his roles in My Fault London, Champion and Obsession.

Adam Scott just revealed how long 'Severance' takes to film — and that could be bad news for season 3

At this point, we've been conditioned to wait a long time for "Severance" episodes. The sci-fi thriller debuted on Apple TV Plus on Feb. 18, 2022 ... and then it took another 35 months to get the season premiere of "Severance" season 2. Last month, when I wrote about Apple TV Plus head of programming Matt Cherniss signaling that season 3 could be over a year away, people were bummed, but not exactly shocked. But now we have a clearer picture of why it takes so long for new "Severance" episodes to be made. On yesterday's (Aug. 12) episode of the podcast "Good Hang with Amy Poehler," her former "Parks and Recreation" co-star, and star of "Severance," Adam Scott, sat down with her and revealed just how long it takes to film an episode of the Emmy-nominated show. "Well, it depends," Scott told his former TV wife when asked about how long it takes to film a single episode of the show. "It's long. Season 2, I think it was 186 days for the season. Which is a long time." Scott then broke it down further. "I think one episode took like six weeks and then it's averaged out because we shoot them three at a time, all mixed up together." Season 1 took even longer to film. "Season 1," Scott elaborated, "we shot the entire thing at once. So like, in month nine, we were still shooting scenes from the first episode." Still, Scott believes that this approach to filming multiple episodes at a time works to the benefit of Apple's acclaimed drama. "The accidental thing that that did," he said, referring to season 1, specifically, "You know the first few episodes of any show are a little shaky and everyone is finding their tone a little bit or their characters or whatever? It spread that out over the entire season. So it kind of felt, more or less, fully realized." Scott now joins a long list of people hammering home the point that this show takes a long time to make. Weeks-long shoots for a single episode — half a year spent filming season 2 alone — mean that annual season premieres just aren't feasible. To be fair, nobody has been promising a quick turnaround. Back in March, executive producer Ben Stiller told the ITV morning show "This Morning" that "Severance" season 3 is coming "as fast as possible," but not that it'd be here any time soon. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. 7 day free trial! Apple TV Plus gives you access to amazing originals with exciting new shows dropping all summer long. That timeline gets especially drawn out when filming hasn't even started. In his comments last month, Cherniss said that production had yet to begin on "Severance" season 3, meaning if they started filming today, they probably wouldn't even be done filming the next season of the show until the end of winter in 2026. There, admittedly, has been some mixed messaging on that front. While Cherniss says production hasn't started, in January, Stiller gave a production update on season 3 and revealed that the show's creative team was already working on the new season. A month later, in February, Stiller repeated his claim that "Severance" was already back in production, right before Apple officially greenlit season 3. It's entirely possible this is just a case of Cherniss meaning "filming" when he says production, and Stiller referring to the early pre-production work, including writing scripts. If that's the case, both of them are probably telling the truth. But regardless, I can't imagine this show entering post-production until mid-2026, at which point Apple probably holds season 3 for a January or February Apple TV Plus release date in 2027, just like it did for season 1 in 2022 and season 2 in 2025. Malcolm has been with Tom's Guide since 2022, and has been covering the latest in streaming shows and movies since 2023. 11 Best British Detective TV Shows You'll Enjoy If You Love 'Ridley'

If you're anything like team ELLE UK and have found yourself, once again, completely hooked on Ridley, then congratulations – you've officially caught the British detective show bug, and sadly there's no cure. The good news? You're about to discover a treasure trove of brilliant shows that'll keep you guessing, gasping, and probably staying up way too late because 'just one more episode' is a lie we tell ourselves. Ridley, with Adrian Dunbar's compelling portrayal of the retired detective who just can't seem to stay retired, has that perfect blend of character depth, atmospheric storytelling, and those wonderfully complex mysteries that make British crime dramas so addictive. And if that's your cup of tea, there's plenty more where that came from. What is Happy Valley about? Sarah Lancashire's Catherine Cawood is one of the most singular compelling characters ever created for television. This Yorkshire-set drama doesn't just solve crimes — it dives deep into trauma, resilience, and what it really means to keep on going when life keeps on testing you. Where can I watch Happy Valley? BBC iPlayer. What is Line of Duty? If you love a good corruption storyline and don't mind shouting 'Mother of God!' at your TV, this is your show. Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, and Adrian Dunbar (yes, our Ridley star) make up AC-12, the anti-corruption unit that'll have you questioning everyone's motives. Where can I watch Line of Duty? BBC iPlayer. What is Dept. Q about? Netflix's newest whodunnit tells the story of Detective Carl Morck (Downton Abbey's Matthew Goode), a reckless-but-ingenious investigator who has recently returned to work after being shot by an unknown assailant. With a Mötley Crüe of unlikely peers, Detective Morck is tasked with his unit's first investigation: the mysterious disappearance of prosecutor Merritt Lingard (Chloe Pirrie) several years earlier. Where can I watch Dept. Q? Netflix. What is Slow Horses about? Based on a series of novels by Mick Herron about the crew of Slough House, an MI5 division in London that's used as a dumping ground for people who have screwed something up, but not enough to be fired. The detectives get dumped into Slough House explicitly in the hopes they'll quit, and are referred to by the rest of the intelligence service as 'slow horses.' Gary Oldman stars as lead detective Jackson Lamb who, if you didn't end up loving, you'd hate. Where can I watch Slow Horses? Apple TV+. What is Vera about? Brenda Blethyn's DCI Vera Stanhope is the no-nonsense detective we all need in our lives. Set against the stunning backdrop of Northumberland, each episode feels like a masterclass in character-driven storytelling. Plus, Vera's raincoat collection is iconic. Where can I watch Vera? ITVX. What is The Day of the Jackal about? Eddie Redmayne stars as the enigmatic assassin known as 'The Jackal,' an elite killer-for-hire who operates in today's interconnected world of advanced surveillance and digital tracking, in this modern-day re-make of the 1971 Frederick Forsyth novel. After pulling off a spectacular assassination, the Jackal finds himself pursued by a tenacious British intelligence officer who refuses to let the case go cold. Where can I watch The Day of the Jackal? NOW TV. What is Broadchurch about? David Tennant and Olivia Colman's chemistry as mismatched detectives investigating a child's murder in a tight-knit coastal town is absolutely electric. Fair warning: this one will emotionally wreck you in the best possible way. Where can I watch Broadchurch? ITVX. What is Marcella about? Anna Friel stars as Marcella, a former detective who returns to work while dealing with personal trauma and memory issues. The series follows her investigating complex cases while struggling with her own psychological challenges from past traumas. Where can I watch Marcella? ITVX. What is Shetland about? The Scottish islands provide the perfect moody atmosphere for this long-running series. Douglas Henshall's DI Jimmy Perez navigates both complex crimes and the tight-knit island community dynamics with such nuance – you'll find yourself planning a trip to Scotland immediately. Where can I watch Shetland? BBC iPlayer. What is Endeavour about? For those who love a period piece with their mystery, this Inspector Morse prequel is absolute perfection. Shaun Evans brings such depth to the young Endeavour Morse, and the 1960s Oxford setting is gorgeously atmospheric. Where can I watch Endeavour? ITVX. What is Scott & Bailey about? The friendship between DCs Rachel Bailey and Janet Scott is the heart of this Manchester-set series. Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp have such natural chemistry that you'll wish you could grab drinks with them after every case is solved. Where can I watch Scott & Bailey? ITVX. Naomi May is a seasoned culture journalist and editor with over ten years' worth of experience in shaping stories and building digital communities. After graduating with a First Class Honours from City University's prestigious Journalism course, Naomi joined the Evening Standard, where she worked across both the newspaper and website. She is now the Digital Editor at ELLE Magazine and has written features for the likes of The Guardian, Vogue, Vice and Refinery29, among many others.
