Hull KR snatch late win over Warrington to end 40-year wait for trophy
The Super League leaders looked set to extend the agony as opponents Warrington entered the last three minutes with a four-point lead, before Tom Davies flopped onto Tyrone May's kick to haul the Robins level.
To a roar that could be heard back home in a presumably deserted east Hull, Lewis then stepped up to boot his side into the history books, completing an 8-6 win that erased the memory of their last-gasp agony against Leigh in 2023.
It was a remarkable ending to a contest that never quite caught fire and had seemed increasingly likely to be decided by a masterclass from Warrington scrum-half Marc Sneyd, for whom a record-equally Lance Todd trophy for man of the match will prove no consolation.

Sneyd's mastery of the tough conditions had forced the normally reliable Rovers into a series of errors and it was his boot on the stroke of half-time that set up the opening try for Josh Thewlis and looked set to hand Warrington their first Challenge Cup triumph since 2019.
Frustration had slowly mounted for Rovers, who mostly out-muscled their opponents in an grimly fought-out opening 40 but had only a two-point penalty from Lewis to show for their ascendency in the opening half-hour.
The conditions could cost Rovers dear when the otherwise impressive Joe Burgess dropped a slippery high kick from Sneyd in his own 10, and Wire seized on a stroke of fortune when Sneyd's kick ricocheted off a Rovers leg and out wide for Thewlis to score.
With fellow half-back and captain George Williams finding his way into the game after almost eight weeks out following ankle surgery, Sneyd was revelling in the extra responsibility, and Warrington could have gone ahead earlier when Adam Holroyd slapped down a loose ball only for his effort to be ruled out for stripping the ball in the build-up.

Jez Litten's introduction midway through the opening period turned the screw in Rovers' favour and Lewis capitalised on their best period of pressure by kicking them in front after being caught high by Ben Currie.
Warrington rode their luck to wrest the tie in their favour on the half-time hooter, then summoned a sterling defensive effort to keep out a Rovers repeat set as the favourites piled on the pressure after the break.
Sneyd's relentless probing with the boot continued to lift his side out of difficulty, while Rovers made more uncharacteristic errors as the pressure began to mount, captain Elliot Minchella guilty of squirting the ball out of his grasp at the play-the-ball.
With the minutes ticking down it looked like more agony for Rovers until Davies made ground on the right to serve up one last chance. From a subsequent penalty, May's kick was just missed by Warrington winger Arron Lindop, and Davies flapped it down to haul his side level.
Fittingly, it was left to home-grown hero Lewis to kick the decisive points and snatch Willie Peters' men their first trophy since 1985 with less than one and a half minutes left on the clock.

Wrexham eye big-money target who showed true character after manager bust-up
Wrexham are reported to be eyeing a £2million move for a Championship captain, who once showed his willingness to stand up for himself after being sent on loan by a former boss Wrexham have been linked with a big-money bid to sign the captain of one of their Championship rivals. The Red Dragons are among several clubs reportedly eyeing up Blackburn Rovers man Lewis Travis. The midfielder only has one year left on his current deal at Ewood Park, with Rovers yet to open talks over fresh terms. After earning promotion from League One in April, Wrexham have now expressed an interest in securing his services, as per the Lancashire Telegraph. It's been claimed the 27-year-old would cost the Welsh side, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, in the region of £2million. That figure matches the club record fee, which they paid to sign striker Sam Smith from Reading in January. Travis is understood to be one of Rovers' top earners, but Wrexham are said to be willing to offer him even higher wages. Signing the Liverpool academy graduate would signal a huge statement of intent by Reynolds and McElhenney, who have made their aim of reaching the Premier League very clear. The combative midfielder has made more than 260 appearances for Blackburn since signing his first professional contract with the club in January 2017. Travis has mostly been a regular in the team ever since, although it hasn't always been plain sailing. One of the most difficult periods in his time at Rovers came following the appointment of Jon Dahl Tomasson as head coach in June 2022. The pair initially enjoyed a positive relationship, with Tomasson rewarding Travis with the captain's armband shortly after his arrival. However, things turned sour as the player struggled for regular football during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign. In January 2024, Travis was sent out on loan to Ipswich Town for the rest of the season. Former Newcastle and AC Milan striker Tomasson claimed at the time that wanting to play in a different position was the main reason for the midfielder's move. But Travis later described the Danish head coach's comments as "unfair" and was not afraid to stand up for himself. In a show of character, he told BBC Radio Lancashire:"I found it very unfair how himself and (former director of football) Gregg Broughton came out and said I wanted to leave because I wasn't playing in the right position. "I would have had a lot more respect if they said the gaffer didn't put me in the captain's meeting or the gaffer didn't put me in the centre mid(fielder)s meeting even though there were under-23s there. I think it was a bit tough and hard to hear for him to come out and say that without me being allowed to say anything." Travis helped Ipswich to secure the club's first promotion to the Premier League in 22 years after they finished second in the Championship in 2024. He returned to Blackburn in the summer of that year, by which point Tomasson had left the club by mutual consent, later taking charge of the Swedish national side. Travis has since re-established himself as an important part of Rovers' midfield, making 38 appearances in their most recent Championship campaign. As well as Wrexham, it's also been speculated that Sheffield United could be keeping tabs on Travis' situation after previously expressing an interest in signing him last summer. Next Bristol City manager odds: Gerhard Struber new betting favourite for Robins job
Gerhard Struber is the new favourite to be the next manager of Bristol City, who are on the hunt for a new manager after Liam Manning left the club to become the new boss of Norwich City. Manning had taken over at Ashton Gate in November 2023 and guided the Robins into this season's Championship play-offs, finishing sixth in the regular season before a disappointing 6-0 aggregate loss to Sheffield United in the semi-finals. Norwich were willing to pay the Robins a sum to secure Manning's services after their own 13th-placed finish last season, but Bristol fans will be wondering where that leaves them ahead of the 2025/26 season starting in August. The City board will be eager to secure a new manager as soon as possible with pre-season preparations set to get underway later this month, so we've taken a look at the leading contenders on betting sites to take over the mantle at Ashton Gate. Next Bristol City Manager Odds Manager Odds Betting site Gerhard Struber 2/1 BetVictor Rob Edwards 3/1 BetVictor Richie Wellens 4/1 Parimatch Neil Warnock 8/1 BetVictor Dave Challinor 8/1 Betano Michael Carrick 8/1 Parimatch Steve Cooper 16/1 BetVictor Marti Cifuentes 16/1 BetVictor Gary O'Neil 20/1 talkSPORT BET Ruben Selles 20/1 talkSPORT BET Jack Wilshere 20/1 Betano Former Barnsley Boss the New Favourite Former Barnsley boss Struber has emerged as the new favourite to replace Manning at Ashton Gate, three years after leaving Oakwell. The Austrian spent just one season in South Yorkshire after keeping them in the Championship, despite being bottom of the league and seven points from safety when he took over. He left the club in October 2020, when he was named head coach of New York Red Bulls, and has since managed Red Bull Salzburg before most recently managing Cologne. However, he was sacked in May with the team in the automatic promotion places with just two games to go. They eventually got promoted back to the Bundesliga and now betting sites are offering just 2/1 on Struber returning to English football as the new boss of Bristol City. Ex-Premier League Bosses Also in The Race Former Luton Town manager Rob Edwards was previously the joint favourite for the role, with the 42-year-old having been sacked in January after a run of defeats in the Championship. Though the Hatters ended up getting relegated, Edwards' reputation is still solid having guided Luton to an unlikely promotion to the Premier League in 2023 and he's currently a coach in demand with bookmakers making him a strong candidate in the next Middlesbrough manager odds too. Edwards is more favoured than Richie Wellens, who is now 3/1 on football betting sites to take the Bristol job. Wellens took Leyton Orient to the League 1 play-off final last season, though the defeat to Charlton coupled with the loss of several key players could prompt him to leave Brisbane Road. Neil Warnock has made a surprise appearance in the list, popping up at 8/1 to return to management for the first time since leaving Aberdeen in March 2024. The fact he lives down in Cornwall might make the job an attractive one if he is to enjoy one last hurrah. The Englishman is among four former Premier League managers who are supposedly in the running, with ex-Wolves manager Gary O'Neil at 20/1 and former Leicester and Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper offered at 16/1. Lower League Managers Ready to Step up? Several managers from teams and divisions below Bristol City are in the running for the Ashton Gate hotseat, led by Wellens. Former Notts County and Swansea City boss Luke Williams has been touted at 8/1, though his name has appeared infrequently in local press and he has been out of work since leaving the Swans in February. Stockport manager Dave Challinor is another 8/1 candidate as it stands, with the 49-year-old leading his side to the League One play-offs last season, having taken them from non-league football in three seasons. Within the Championship, John Mousinho is another name that has popped up, with the 39-year-old Englishman offered at 16/1 on some betting apps having attracted interest after managing to keep Portsmouth in the division after their promotion the season beforehand. Outside bets It is seen as unlikely that either O'Neil or Cooper will join the Robins, with the latter having expressed an interest in working abroad and O'Neil out of work since leaving Wolves in December. Marti Cifuentes and Ruben Selles are the two bosses with Championship experience who are seen as outside shouts for the job, with the former priced at 16/1 and Selles at 20/1. Cifuentes is currently on gardening leave after guiding QPR to 15th last season, and while he was supposedly on the shortlist to take over as West Brom manager, former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason has now taken over at the Hawthorns. As for Selles, he presumably did not instil much confidence in prospective suitors when he was sacked by Hull having almost fallen to relegation. That leaves one other candidate at 20/1 – former Norwich caretaker boss Jack Wilshere. The ex-England and Arsenal midfielder took charge of the Canaries for the final matches of the season but left the club after being informed that he wasn't being considered for the full-time job, and despite plenty of time as an assistant, it may be seen as too much of a jump to give someone so inexperienced a top role at this stage in his career.
