All eyes on Sundowns and SA's three URC quarterfinalists

There is also plenty of interest in the Champions League final in Europe, where PSG take on Inter Milan.

Another exciting weekend of sport awaits us. There's plenty to keep football and rugby fans entertained, with these clashes our highlights.
PSG v Inter
PSG's trouble-filled efforts to win the Uefa Champions League could finally come to a happy ending on Saturday evening, as they take on Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Since they were injected with Qatari billions following their purchase by QSI in 2011, the Champions League has been the holy grail for the Paris side.
Yet they have only reached one previous final, losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich in 2019. This time they will be favourites to beat Inter.
But Simone Inzaghi's side have already sprung a couple of surprises in this year's tournament, taking down Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals and Barcelona in the semis.
Prediction: PSG 2 Inter 1
Pyramids FC v Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns have it all to do on Sunday when they take on Pyramids FC at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo in the second leg of their Caf Champions League final.
A last-gasp equaliser from Pyramids in Tshwane gave the Egyptian side a precious away goal to take back home, and they now know they will win a first ever Champions League if they can stop Sundowns from scoring.
Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso must get another good performance out of his team away from home.
Sundowns showed in the semifinals, when they won with a 1-1 draw in the second leg against Al Ahly in Cairo, that they are a force to be reckoned with on their travels.
Cardoso's side will probably look to keep it tight and hit Pyramids with a sucker punch. Expect a tight affair, but Sundowns might just sneak it.
Prediction: Pyramids 0 Sundowns 1
Rugby
URC quarterfinals
The Stormers take on Glasgow in Scotland on Friday night, while the Bulls host Edinburgh and the Sharks welcome Munster on Saturday.
It will take something special for the Stormers to win on the road, but expect big home games by the Bulls and Sharks. Unfortunately, South Africa might have just one team in the semifinals next week.
For my money the Sharks have not been strong enough, in all departments, to progress beyond this stage, while the Stormers face a tough time against the defending champions, who'll have a point to prove.
Jake White's Bulls also have a tough encounter against a side who have found way to make life difficult for them, and they have Sean Everitt coaching them, but expect them to come out on top.
Prediction: Bulls to win, Stormers and Sharks to lose

De Bruyne joins Italian champions Napoli after Man City exit

Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has joined Serie A champions Napoli as a free agent on Thursday, after the end of his glittering 10-year spell at Manchester City. De Bruyne lifted 19 trophies at City since his 2015 move from German side VfL Wolfsburg — a haul that includes six Premier League titles and one Champions League crown. He has also been named the Premier League Player of the Season twice. Regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history, the 33-year-old's contract at City expired at the end of the recently-concluded season. 'Kevin is proud to be one of us!,' Napoli posted on social media platform X.

Matheus Cunha completes 'dream' Manchester United move

Dream come true Manchester United have announced that they have completed the deal to sign Brazil international Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers after meeting his £62.5 million buyout clause. Photo: Justin Tallis/AFP Image: Justin Tallis/AFP Matheus Cunha said he had "dreamed of wearing the red shirt" of Manchester United after the club confirmed his signing from Wolves on Thursday. United effectively sealed the deal, which was subject to the completion of a visa and medical, on June 1 after activating a £62.5 million ($85 million) release clause in the 26-year old's contract. "It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player," said the Brazil international, who has signed a five-year deal with the option of another year. "Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother's house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. "I can't wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my teammates and prepare for the season ahead. "All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top." Cunha scored 17 goals in all competitions for Wolves last season, winning the Premier League club's players' player of the year award. He became Ruben Amorim's first signing of the summer transfer window as the head coach sets about overhauling his squad after a miserable domestic campaign and a lacklustre Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. Cunha will add his predatory instincts and creative guile to a United attack that struggled throughout this season. The striker helped his country qualify for the World Cup on Tuesday when he set up the only goal for Vinicius Junior in a 1-0 win over Paraguay. United's director of football Jason Wilcox said: "Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window. "He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours." Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has also been linked with a move to United, whose transfer business has been made harder by their failure to qualify for the Champions League. Lorch, Mailula and Mokwana ready to hoist the SA flag at Fifa Club World Cup

Thembinkosi Lorch in action for Wydad Casablanca, where his stand-out performances in March earned him the Player of the Month award. Photo: Instagram/@WACofficiel Image: Instagram/@WACofficiel The FIFA Club World Cup is the ultimate tournament for interclub football as it is played by the best teams from across the world. South Africa will be well represented in the upcoming event in the US after Mamelodi Sundowns' qualification. However, there'll be other South African representatives from two other African giants, Wydad Casablanca and Esperance, who'll be competing at the event. Thembinkosi Lorch - Wydad Casablanca Lorch has grabbed the lifeline that was offered to him by Wydad with both hands as he's put his best foot forward since he arrived at the club last season. He was not able to help the team finish in the Top 2 on the log and qualify for the Champions League next season as they could only claim a Confederation Cup spot. Nevertheless, he had a memorable season, so much so that he was voted as the club's Player of the Month for March. Having been brought to the club by native coach Rulani Mokwena through a loan deal from Mameodi Sundowns, the duo showed great belief in each other. As such, when Mokwena was sacked towards the end of the season, the future and impressive outing of Lorch at the club remained unclear. But Lorch has taken Mokwena's departure in good faith, continuing to be at his best with his skill-set. And that's why it's been reported that Wydad wants to sign him permanently. Cassius Mailula - Wydad Casablanca When Mailula joined Major League Soccer (MLS) side Toronto two seasons ago, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos said that move wouldn't benefit his career. And that proved to be the case - Mailula was demoted from the first team and sent to train with the reserve side, which took him backwards. But when Mokwena signed him for Wydad at the start of the season, Mailula rediscovered his mojo, scoring five goals and registering seven assists in 33 games. His ability to bounce back to his old self, scoring goals and putting his skill-set to good use, has made him a fan-favourite among the Wydad supporters. As such, when he lost his mother recently, he received outpouring support from both the fans of the club and football fraternity at large. With his loan spell at Wydad coming to an end after the World Cup, the 24-year-old is highly expected to make his move permanent, especially given his recent exploits. Elias Mokwana - Esperance There are few players that come as speedy as Mokwana in continental football, and that's why he was able to be head and shoulders above most players in Tunisia. He made his mark, taking on markers, en route to winning a domestic treble with Esperance, including the championship after the end of the season. Mokwana had said before his move that he was keen to join childhood club Kaizer Chiefs, but the negotiations fell at the final hurdle. Mokwana cannot afford to sulk and moan around - he must wear his heart on his sleeve as long as he's still contracted to Esperance going forward. Esperance like the other three African representatives - Sundowns, Wydad and Al Ahly - in the US will be underdogs in America, but individual performances will not go unnoticed. Mokwana has to be at his best with every passing game and tournament as that'll aid his chances of being called-up for Bafana for the World Cup qualifiers and Afcon finals.
