Alexander Isak reports for Newcastle training after rest of squad leave
Isak, who later informed the club he wanted to explore his options this summer, instead flew to Spain to train at former club Real Sociedad and returned to Tyneside at the weekend, shortly before head coach Eddie Howe and his squad landed back from Seoul and were given two days off.
The players were back at the training ground on Wednesday morning and their families were invited to join them after training.
However, the PA news agency understands Isak, who reported back to the club's Benton base on Monday, was told not to come in until after they had left and was pictured arriving at around 1550.
The £63million frontman has been a huge hit since his arrival from Sociedad during the summer of 2022 and played a key role last season as they ended their 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy with the Carabao Cup and qualified for the Champions League for the second time in three seasons.
However questioned about his absence in South Korea, Howe signalled that his actions might have repercussions.
The 47-year-old told reporters: 'You have to earn the right to train with us. We are Newcastle United.
'The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad – you have to act in the right way. So that is also at play here.
'We will make sure that any player earns the right to train with the group. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal.'
Isak is understood to have undergone treatment and light training at a deserted training ground on Monday and it remains to be seen whether he will have any involvement in the club's pre-season fixtures against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid this weekend.
The striker faces clear-the-air talks with Howe, with his situation becoming seemingly more complicated by the day as a difficult transfer window threatens to spiral further out of control.
Newcastle tabled an improved club record bid for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko on Monday in an effort to beat Manchester United to the punch, but developments since suggest the 22-year-old is more likely to head for Old Trafford than St James' Park.
That would represent the latest blow in a transfer window which has already seen the Magpies miss out on major targets Dean Huijsen, Bryan Mbeumo, Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro, James Trafford and Liam Delap.
They have managed to recruit Nottingham Forest wide man Anthony Elanga and, on loan, Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, but with frontman Callum Wilson and midfielder Sean Longstaff having left, there is significant work to be done, with the start of the new season just 10 days away.
Howe was already looking for a striker before the Isak situation came to a head and, with three years remaining on the Swede's current deal – he has so far resisted the club's overtures to sign a new contract – there seems to be little prospect of the club allowing him to leave either before they have secured a replacement or for much less than their £150m valuation, having already rebuffed Liverpool's initial approach.
Meanwhile, sources on Tyneside have played down suggestions that Newcastle have tabled a bid for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw, but it is understood they are maintaining an interest in the Germany international.

Paddy Pimblett provides update on Ilia Topuria fight amid UFC lightweight disarray
Paddy Pimblett has provided an update on the UFC lightweight title picture, although not necessarily a positive one as far as he is concerned. The Liverpudlian has been linked to a potential shot at champion Ilia Topuria, with whom he has had a grudge since 2022, when they were involved in an altercation in London. However, Arman Tsarukyan and Justin Gaethje are both ranked ahead of Pimblett, who is No 9 at 155lb. While Pimblett's ranking could count against him, No 2 Tsarukyan lost momentum when he withdrew from a title shot on one day's notice in January, citing injury, and No 5 Gaethje is only riding a one-fight win streak and previously lost two title fights. 'Obviously back in the gym Monday,' Pimblett said on his YouTube channel. 'All I kept getting asked this weekend was: 'Who are you fighting? When are you fighting? When are you fighting Ilia?' 'I have no idea. Hopefully it is gonna be me versus the chorizo next,' added 'Paddy The Baddy', referencing Topuria's Spanish-Georgian heritage, 'and I think that's what all the Americans want, because every American I bump into keeps saying: 'When are you gonna smash that sausage's head in?' 'I'm hoping that gets sorted, but I understand that I am ranked No 9 or something, so other people probably are more deserving. But posh boy definitely isn't; little rich boy Arman, showing how desperate he is, offering another £1m to fight [Topuria]. Spoilt, rich baby, trying to pay their way out of things.' In fact, Tsarukyan recently offered Topuria a $500,000 bet around a potential clash. 'That's why he quit when he was making weight in the bath like a little b***h,' Pimblett added, in a jibe at Tsarukyan's injury from January. 'Arman's irrelevant, no one cares about him.' Tsarukyan appears to be the front runner to challenge Topuria, who won the vacant title with a first-round knockout of Charles Oliveira in June, which could lead Pimblett to face Gaethje. However, Gaethje has played down the possibility of that match-up, suggesting he could leave the UFC if he is not awarded another title shot. 'As I always say, I've got nothing but respect for Justin,' said Pimblett, 30, 'but I keep seeing in interviews him saying he doesn't want to fight me. 'I['d] seen Dan Hooker talking s*** the other day as well. I used to like Dan Hooker, now you can eat s***. I think the only fight to make is me and Ilia.' Tsarukyan's injury in January led then-champion Islam Makhachev to fight Renato Moicano on short notice. Makhachev submitted Moicano before giving up the title in May, with an eye on challenging for the welterweight belt later this year. who was this week paired with Rafael Fiziev for an October fight. Pimblett had been loosely linked to Oliveira, but the Brazilian's match-up with Fiziev means Paddy The Baddy will likely take on Topuria, Gaethje or Tsarukyan, depending on who is paired in a title fight. After Topuria knocked out Oliveira in June, Pimblett entered the cage to face off with the champion, while Gaethje and Tsarukyan sat in the crowd at the T-Mobile Arena. However, UFC president Dana White said he did not know who authorised Pimblett to enter the Octagon in Las Vegas.

Carlos Baleba told one club wouldn't be a good choice as Man Utd's rivals enter £104m race
Manchester United have registered their interest in Brighton's Carlos Baleba, who has been warned to avoid one club in particular and told which rival may be a better fit Carlos Baleba has been strongly advised to reject any future advances from Chelsea. The Manchester United target has been linked with many top clubs over the past 12 months, but a former Cameroon star thinks Liverpool would be his best fit. United are reportedly weighing up a move for the 21-year-old box-to-box star this summer after a breakout campaign on the south coast. However, Brighton are understood to be seeking a fee of around £104million for the player, who is also attracting interest from Manchester City. Former Cameroon striker Bernard Tchoutang represented the country on 42 occasions, winning the African Nations Cup in 2000. And he has told his compatriot that a move to United's greatest nemeses would suit him the most, but thinks Chelsea should be avoided at all costs. "For me, Liverpool is the club that would suit him best," Tchoutang told AfricaFoot earlier this year. "And I'm not just saying that because they're by far the best team in the Premier League this season and one of the strongest in Europe. " Arne Slot 's system of play would suit him very well. The Reds like to attack, press and make quick transitions. We also know that this is a club that knows how to trust young players and give them responsibility. "As for Chelsea, I'm not sure it would be a good choice. The team is having a decent season, but it's a step below Liverpool or Arsenal. And I think that Baleba has what it takes to play for one of the best teams in England! He's ready for it and he's working hard for it." Chelsea and Liverpool are not actively being linked with the midfielder, but have shown interest in him in the past. United are thought to be Baleba's biggest admirers considering a deal this summer, though the club are aware that agreeing a transfer for him will be incredibly difficult. Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in the summer of 2023 as part of a £23.m deal. Fast forward two years, and Fabian Hurzeler's side are reportedly hoping to fetch almost four times that amount if they're to part ways with the player this summer. It seems highly unlikely Ruben Amorim 's side will be able to compete for Baleba's signature this summer on the current terms. United have agreed a £74m deal to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, which would take their summer spending to just north of £200m, and have already ruled out using Toby Collyer in a swap deal to save them some money up front. Liverpool, meanwhile, appear unlikely to move for a new midfielder after the quartet of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Dzobozslai, Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones helped fire them to Premier League glory last season. They've also got Stefan Bajcetic back following his loan at Las Palmas, though reports suggest a loan move to Celtic could be in the offing. As for Chelsea, their midfield also appears settled as the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia look set to rule the roost. The Blues were also hit with £78.5m in UEFA fines, £51m of which is suspended, just last month for failing to comply with spending restrictions. Worryingly for United, that could leave City in the best position to meet Brighton's demands and sign Baleba this summer. Pep Guardiola already recruited £46m Tijjani Reijnders to replace Kevin De Bruyne, though City's summer spending has been relatively modest compared to some rivals, while Brighton are said to be extremely reluctant to cash in on him at the moment.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool predictions: Community Shield tips and odds
Our expert has two tips for Sunday's Community Shield between last season's FA Cup winners Crystal Palace and defending Premier League champions Liverpool at Wembley (kick-off, 3pm BST). We think goals could be at a premium in this season's curtain-raiser. Crystal Palace vs Liverpool tips Under 2.5 goals @ 21/20 with Parimatch Daniel Munoz to be carded @ SP with Parimatch Odds courtesy of Parimatch. Match details Expect a cagey contest at Wembley Crystal Palace withstood wave after wave of Manchester City attacks to win the FA Cup final at Wembley in May. Eberechi Eze's strike was enough to divide the sides and goals could again be at a premium when Palace return to the national stadium to face Liverpool in the Community Shield. The 2024-25 season was a memorable one for the Eagles and they will be eager to start the new campaign on the front foot in this game, although they are 4/1 shots to win in 90 minutes. But they can take confidence from the fact the Community Shield is typically a cagey fixture, with three of the last five settled by penalty shootouts. Last season, Palace's Premier League fixtures averaged just 2.68 goals – only games involving Everton and Manchester United – and their two meetings with Liverpool finished in a 1-0 defeat and a 1-1 draw at Anfield, although the latter came in May when the Reds were in celebratory mood. Both sets of players will still be working their way back to peak fitness and under 2.5 goals looks like a wise bet at 21/20. Check out our tipster's pick for the Premier League Golden Glove this season Munoz may be in for a tough afternoon Palace wing-back Daniel Munoz could have a difficult time of it at Wembley, where he is likely to be up against Liverpool's new £40million left-back Milos Kerkez. Kerkez dazzled for Bournemouth last season and managed seven crosses and three key passes when he faced Palace for the Cherries back in April. Munoz is a talented player who likes to attack, but he can sometimes neglect his defensive duties in the process and commit the odd cynical foul. He averaged 1.5 fouls per game in the Premier League last season and picked up 10 yellow cards, while he committed three fouls in the April clash against Bournemouth. Although the Community Shield is not typically the most fiery of contests, Munoz is worth a look to be carded. Crystal Palace vs Liverpool odds All odds courtesy of Parimatch.
