
Air India: London-bound plane 'involved in an incident'
An Air India passenger plane has crashed in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad.
Air India posted on social media on Thursday, "Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident."
The airline said it is investigating the details, and will provide updates on its website.
The plane reportedly crashed shortly after takeoff on Thursday. Local media reports said more than 240 people were on board.
Footage shows black smoke rising from the crash site, which is near a residential area.
Private flight tracker Flightradar24 said the aircraft was a Boeing 787, scheduled to depart at 1:10 p.m., local time.
