Paul McCartney's ex Heather Mills has awkward train confrontation over fake leg

Metro06-08-2025
Heather Mills has shared details of an uncomfortable encounter on a train involving her prosthetic leg.
The former model and wife of The Beatles star Paul McCartney was 25 years old in 1993 when she was run over by a police motorcycle in London and resulted in crushed rips, a punctured lung and the amputation of her left leg below the knee.
Following the accident Mills continued to model and set up a charity – the Heather Mills Health Trust – which delivered prosthetic limbs to people, particularly children, who had lost limbs after stepping on landmines.
Over the years Mills, 57, has used her platform to become a prominent campaigner for amputee rights and prosthetic technology innovation, but this week faced an awkward exchange when a man didn't notice her prosthetic and complained about the room she was taking up.
Sharing a video online that was filmed from her seat on a South Western Railway service, Heather said the confrontation began when a man complained about her stretching out her leg.
Unaware that one of her legs was prosthetic, the passenger then accused her of taking up too much space.
'I just literally had a moany man who was asking me to move my leg. I tried to explain, and he wouldn't listen. So, I took my leg off – and he shut up,' she explained.
She went on: 'This is for everyone who travels on a train and is getting annoyed because of a tall leggy blonde who's having to stretch her leg out.
'The reason for this is because you can't pull your leg right in because the underneath of the prosthetic cuts into the back of the leg.
'So just think twice before you turn your nose up.' https://www.instagram.com/p/DAqjC8Qo5P0/?hl=en
Mills has previously spoken about the daily discomforts and social misunderstandings faced by prosthetic users.
'Comfort and mobility often require adjustments that the public may not immediately understand,' she said.
In 2010 she began skiing competitively at the age of 42, going on to win four gold medals at the 2012 Skiing World Championships in Aspen.
In 2015, she was recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest disabled female skier in the world, clocking a speed of 102.5mph in Vars, south-east France.
In 2002 Heather became a household name when she married Paul, four years after his first wife Linda had died of breast cancer. More Trending
The couple went on to welcome daughter Beatrice Milly McCartney in 2003. They eventually split three years later, with Mills claiming the breakdown of the marriage was due to McCartney's daughter Stella and her disapproval of the relationship.
During their well-publicised divorce proceedings Mills asked for £125million but was eventually awarded a lump sum of £16.5million, plus assets of £7.8 million, which included the properties she owned at the time.
She has been in a relationship with film producer Mike Dickman, who is nearly 20 years her junior, since 2019.

George Harrison and Eric Clapton collaborator Bobby Whitlock dies aged 77

Musician Bobby Whitlock, who co-founded the band Derek and the Dominos, has died aged 77. The keyboard player and vocalist was best known for forming the blues rock band with Eric Clapton in 1970, however they only ever released one album and broke up after a year. Whitlock also worked with The Beatles star George Harrison, playing on his 1970 triple album All Things Must Pass. This week it was announced that he had died. ABC Audio reported Whitlock's death, quoting manager Carol Kaye as saying: 'With profound sadness, the family of Bobby Whitlock announces his passing at 1:20am on Aug. 10 after a brief illness. He passed in his home in Texas, surrounded by family.' Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Whitlock was signed to Stax Records as a teenager, also becoming the first white artist signed to the label. His first recording credit came in 1967 when he supplied handclaps on Sam & Dave's single I Thank You. Between 1965 and 1968, he performed regularly in the Memphis area, playing organ with local soul band the Short Cuts before forming the Counts. Although there had been plans for him to work on a pop album, he instead decided to leave his home city and join a soul-revue band being forming in Los Angeles – Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, who accompanied the duo Delaney & Bonnie on their tours. Another member of the group was Clapton, however after disagreements, the band members that had been brought on board quit and instead went on to work on Harrison's album. Soon after they formed blues-rock band Derek and the Dominos – releasing their debut and only album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs in 1970, which has been considered by many as one of the greatest rock albums of all time. But after the album tanked commercially and failed to chart in the UK – as well as the band being wrapped up in drug consumption and personal conflicts – it fell apart after a year. After this Whitlock went on to forge a career as a solo artist, releasing his self-titled album in 1972, which also featured all members of his recently dissolved band. It was followed by Raw Velvet the same year and One of a Kind in 1975, however after this release he withdrew from the music industry. Whitlock previously said the decision was due to him having 'problems to deal with'. More Trending Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Whitlock lived on a farm in Mississippi, raising his children and doing occasional session work. He also had his own television show with Steve Cropper. In 1999 he resumed his solo career with the album It's About Time and in 2003 teamed up with his partner and musician CoCo Carmel to release a live album of the Dominos' songs. The couple later moved to Austin, Texas, and continued releasing music together. Other than his wife, Whitlock is also survived by his three children – Ashley Brown, Beau Whitlock and Tim Whitlock Kelly. Got a story? Oasis skip huge song at Murrayfield despite Noel saying it's 'one of the best I've written'

Oasis returned to Murrayfield Stadium this weekend for their first Scottish gig in 16 years but the pair did not play all of their number one singles. Oasis played two incredible sell out gigs at Murrayfield Stadium this weekend which came as their first Scottish gig in 16 years. The Gallagher brothers took to the stage in the Capital to crowds of around 135,000 across Friday and Saturday evening and are set to finish their three night run in Scotland on Tuesday August 12. ‌ The Manchester based band have several ties to Scotland after first being 'discovered' at King Tuts in Glasgow and playing iconic gigs such as their Loch Lomond performance in 1996. Despite this, Noel Gallagher has still made eyebrow raising comments about Scotland as he previously branded it a 'third world country' during a now resolved feud with Lewis Capaldi. ‌ However, Liam and Noel, who finally put their long-standing rift to bed after a decade and a half last year, appeared to be having the time of their life on stage. Oasis played many of their iconic fan favourite hits, including Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Slide Away and Live Forever while each gig ended with Champagne Supernova and a firework display. ‌ The band played 23 of their hits to fans but a few of them were noticeably missing from the setlist - including one which Noel Gallagher previously said was one of the best songs he's ever written. A notable tune that was absent from their performance was Stop Crying Your Heart Out (2002) as well as their fourth number one single, All Around The World, which was released in 1998. Taken from their third album, Be Here Now, the song is nine minutes long, although a shorter version of under five was released for the radio. ‌ The two other singles from Be Here Now - D'You Known What I Mean and Stand By Me - have been played during the concerts. While other number-one singles like The Importance of Being Idle have also not been featured, Noel once said that All Around the World was one of the best songs he'd ever written. He wrote it before the band became a global sensation but delayed its release as he wanted to do the production justice. ‌ Noel even compared it to the The Beatles' Hey Jude, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest songs of all time. Speaking at the time of its release, he said: "...the longer the better as far as I'm concerned. If it's good. I can see what people are going to say, but f**k 'em, basically. ‌ "The lyrics are teeny-poppy. But there are three key changes towards the end. Imagine how much better Hey Jude would have been with three key changes towards the end." The famous track also features backing vocals from Richard Ashcroft, the former Verve frontman who is the support act for Oasis on their tour. Noel and Liam's then-wives Meg Mathews and Patsy Kensit also feature. Other number ones that didn't feature are Go Let It out, The Hindu Times and Lyla while other classic album tracks such as She's Electric didn't make the cut either. The set list from Saturday night at Murrayfield was: Hello Acquiesce Some Might Say Bring It On Down Cigarettes & Alcohol Fade Away Supersonic Roll With It Talk Tonight Half The World Away Little by Little D'You Know What I Mean Stand By Me Cast No Shadow Slide Away Whatever Live Forever Rock 'N' Roll Star The Masterplan Don't Look Back In Anger Wonderwall Champagne Supernova Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
