The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: The 7 biggest scandals, from ketamine to cheating

Cosmopolitan20-05-2025

MomTok survived! Yes, season two of Disney+'s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has finally aired on the streamer, bringing 10 new juicy episodes full of Mormon secrets including more cheating rumours, more swinging deep dives and a dabble in ketamine.
Following the lives of a group of Mormon Mom TikTokers, the series returned late last week and it's safe to say we spent our entire weekend bingewatching the women fight over charcuterie boards. What?! Can't a girl have a hobby?
And this season had even more drama (we weren't sure it was even possible) than season one, racking up the number of scandals this group have gone through. And there's quite a lot to keep track of, so if you've forgotten or want to relive all the tea, then here are the seven biggest scandals this group of women (and their equally dramatic partners) have gone through.
The whole reason we have the show in the first place is due to a soft-swinging scandal that involved some of the women.
MomTok started in the pandemic, but it really kicked off when one member Taylor Frankie Paul alleged she and other MomTok members had engaged in soft-swinging, and told the entire internet about it. The other members denied it at the time.
It went viral and later Taylor split from her then husband Tate Paul. It also fractured her relationship with many of the women, including her bestie Miranda McWhorter, who denied what was going on.
During season one Taylor started the season on the outs with the other women, but made her way back in and stayed friends.
Then in season two Miranda joined the cast and spilled the tea on what happened at the soft-swinging parties. She maintains she only ever engaged is kissing and sex never took place at these parties.
"Well the thing is, like, the height of what I was ever involved in was like playing spin the bottle and like kissing other people,' she told the other women during her entrance to the show. 'So it was very jarring for me for Taylor to come out and say like everyone was hooking up with everyone because that was simply not the case at all. No one had sex ever. Period. I will go to my grave.'
However, she later appeared on The Viall Files, and did admit that she and her husband at the time, Chase McWhorter, did have sex in one room while another couple were in it. The couple later announced their divorce in 2024.
Following her split from husband Tate Paul, Taylor got into a relationship with Dakota Mortensen. Early on in their relationship, the police were called to Taylor's house after neighbours called up after hearing an altercation.
Taylor, who was intoxicated at the time, was arrested and Dakota was overheard talking to police saying: "She just attacked the crap out of me." Taylor could then be heard saying: "You threw me in the garage."
She was later charged with domestic violence and in August 2023 she pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, while "the other four charges were dismissed with prejudice," as per the New York Post.
The first season also kicked off with another scandal - the revelation of Whitney Leavitt's husband being found on Tinder.
Whitney was another big name in the MomTok world and as the series kicks off it's revealed Whitney was coming back from Hawaii where she and her family had been living while dealing with the fallout of MomTok.
However, she later revealed that was not the case. She rather candidly opened up about her husband and father of her children Conner Leavitt being discovered on Tinder. She had initially denied the rumours but later revealed it was true and that Conner had a "porn addiction."
Ok, so this is not in the same vein as the other scandals, but it's equally as shocking to me.
Back in season one we were introduced to one MomToker Jen Affleck. She has a rather noticeable surname and she told viewers that she was in fact related to the Ben Affleck.
Well her husband Zac's family were, with Jen telling People at the time: "Zac's dad has [met him], when [Ben] was very little. I'm hoping to meet him one day, too!"
Jen even went as far as to say she was the original 'Jennifer Affleck' referencing Ben Affleck's ex-wife Jennifer Lopez, "My name happens to be not only Jen, but Jennifer Lynn Affleck, which is the exact same as JLo. She went from Jennifer Lynn Lopez to Jennifer Lynn Affleck, which is so crazy."
However, one season later it turns out it was actually all a big joke from Zac's family. The surname is brought up in a season two episode, with Jen confronting her husband about the name. She says to Zac that Ben is his second cousin, which Zac denies.
Jen then claimed Zac's family had told her this previously, adding: "You're not going to make me feel stupid when that's all I've been told from your family." However, Zac went onto insist it's just a family joke and they are not actually related in anyway to the Affleck family.
The first season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives ended on a bombshell confession from Mayci that she had heard Taylor's boyfriend Dakota was cheating on her.
Taylor and Dakota's relationship was up and down throughout the series, however they were expecting their first baby together. During the final scenes of the season Mayci is seen calling the woman in question who is said to have cheated with Dakota.
In season two we thankfully got an update. Enter: Jenna. Jenna is the woman Dakota is alleged to be having an affair with.
Taylor meets up with her at Mayci's house in the opening episode of the new season. She showed messages Jenna and Dakota had sent to each other, and it was later revealed Jenna had asked Dakota if he was dating Taylor and he allegedly said: "No, that's just for clout. She's just helping me build my social media."
And Taylor of course struggled to hear this, and tried to match up timelines of dates certain things had happened.
Later on in the episode Dakota said: "When I saw Mayci call Jenna, I just didn't want more problems. So I decided to tell Taylor we just made out."
He also added: "I deleted some messages that if she were to read those, that would essentially make me lose her and my son. I did lie. I was always doing it selfishly to protect myself."
The couple have since split.
Sure alcohol, coffee and tea are all banned in the Mormon way of life, but one thing that is on the menu? Ketamine.
The pair had a difficult time in season one, namely when Zac struggled with seeing Jen go to a Chippendales gig. It led to a massive argument between the pair, with Zac threatening to end their relationship.
They didn't breakup but instead headed to New York to check out medical schools as Zac was considering moving the family there. At one point it seemed like Jen wouldn't come back for season two.
But she did and kicked off the couples' journey with a bang. They were seen in one episode doing ketamine therapy as a way to improve their relationship.
During one confessional Jen explains the purpose of having ketamine therapy: "Zac and I will definitely have a lot to work on, and ketamine therapy is supposed to reset a lot of past traumas or habits you've created.
The couple are then seen doing the therapy and addressing the grey area the Mormon Church has with the drug.
"Ketamine is in the grey area when it comes to the church," she said. "Yeah, the church doesn't promote ketamine, but it's definitely not like a commandment exactly. Ketamine is a pure example of how much he's willing to do to show up for the relationship."
Just like season one ended with cheating allegations so too did season two, however this time it was MomToker Jessi Ngatikaura who was accused.
During the final episode fellow cast member Layla met up with Vanderpump Villa cast member Marciano.
Before season two began, several of the Mormon Wives cast appeared on Vanderpump Villa. There was then speculation that Jesse and Maricano had kissed while hanging out in West Hollywood. Jessi denied the allegation, saying: "If I was dumb enough to do that, I wouldn't do it in public."
Marciano then claimed to Layla during the final scenes of season two that he and Jessi had slept together and had an ongoing affair.
Jessi, who is married to Jordan Ngatikaura, hasn't directly commented on this allegation, however on her Instagram a few days she did share the video below and captioned it: "I'll speak when I can."
SO. MUCH. DRAMA.

Meghan Markle Criticized By Montecito Locals For Being 'Distant' And Having A 'Controlled Image'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's presence in Montecito has been met by mixed reactions from their neighbors, according to a new report. Some locals view the Duke of Sussex as warm and approachable, while the Duchess of Sussex is seen as distant and "practically invisible." Meghan Markle has shared glimpses of her local life, from fitness classes to school events, highlighting friendships with fellow moms and a desire for normalcy despite her public status. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's integration into their Montecito community has come under quiet criticism, with one local suggesting that the couple has kept a low profile since relocating to California following their royal exit in 2020. According to the New York Post, Richard Mineards, a longtime journalist familiar with the area, described Harry as relatively more "approachable" than Meghan. He shared a story involving a local elderly historian who had hoped to personally deliver a documentary to the duchess. "The old man never got past the gate," Mineards claimed, adding that Meghan "doesn't play the community game." The journalist compared Meghan's approach to that of fellow Montecito resident Oprah Winfrey, who he noted is frequently seen supporting community and charity events. Although Meghan lives in Montecito, Mineards said her presence is barely felt. "She's there, of course, but she shows herself very little. Her relationship with Montecito is … distant, shall we say," he noted. He also pointed to the tightly managed nature of her public persona, saying the duchess has "cultivated a very controlled image" of herself and "pays attention to every appearance, every word, every gesture." In contrast to Meghan, Mineards noted that the local perception of Harry is considerably more favorable. He described the Duke of Sussex as warm and personable, stating: "Harry is always charming, approachable, with that very recognizable Windsor accent." "He smiles, shakes hands, willingly exchanges a few words," Mineards added. The journalist mentioned that Harry has been spotted casually enjoying the town "at the beach, in an organic coffee shop, or cycling in the hills." "Harry has kept his good-natured side. We feel he is more at ease here, even with his personal struggles," he added. Several Montecito residents echoed this view, noting that although the couple largely keeps to themselves, Harry tends to be the more visible and approachable of the two. "I haven't seen Harry around much. Normally, when you see him around here, he's walking his Labrador on the beach or on his bicycle, followed by his security in a Range Rover," one neighbor observed. Another resident remarked that Meghan appears noticeably more withdrawn in comparison to her more "jolly" husband. Despite the criticisms, not all Montecito locals share the same perspective. Actress Sharon Stone offered a notably positive view of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during a 2020 interview with Access Hollywood. "You know, the thing about them that is so great is they didn't come here to live off of our community, they came here to be a part of our community," Stone said. She recalled a lighthearted moment from a friend, stating: "My friend said she was sitting in her car and they bicycled across the street and waved at her while she was sitting at the red light." "They're a part of our community, they've become a giving, caring, participating part of our community," the actress added. During a chat with People Magazine, Meghan responded to criticism that her Netflix series, "With Love, Meghan," painted her as "out of touch." Reflecting on the challenges of launching both the show and her lifestyle brand, As Ever, the duchess admitted, "I appreciate everyone who gave me the grace to make mistakes and figure it out and also to be forgiving with myself through that. It's a learning curve." She then highlighted how she and Harry strive for normalcy while raising their children, stating: "Once you know us, I think you want us to have the same normalcy as parents and for our children as they do, despite however unique our situation is." The former "Suits" actress also revealed that she stays involved in her children's social lives, frequently texting with Archie and Lilibet's classmates' parents to arrange playdates over weekends and holidays. Meghan added that Montecito has warmly welcomed her, Harry, and their two children, making them feel at home. Speaking about her social circle, Meghan told People that she has built friendships with women who are not in the spotlight. "I have a couple of girlfriends up here - these are stay-at-home moms and working women with normal jobs, not in the public eye," she shared. "We went from just connecting through our kids to having girls' nights out or doing Pilates together." A parent from the school shared with the news outlet that her bond with Meghan began when the duchess reached out to arrange a playdate for their children. At a birthday party, Meghan was described as relaxed and down-to-earth. "She was just fun and natural, chatting about mom stuff and life," the friend shared. "She was very comfortable just chilling." When the friend's son underwent surgery, Meghan sent a bouquet of balloons and a stuffed octopus from her children. Attached was a sweet note that read, "We thought you could use a hug with eight arms."

Hugh Jackman's Pal Reveals How The Actor Is Dealing With His 'Difficult' Divorce After Ex-Wife's 'Betrayal' Claim

As Hugh Jackman navigates life after his separation from Deborra-Lee Furness, a trusted friend, Gus Worland, has shed light on their split. Speaking on 2 GB's Ben Fordham Live Thursday, the Australian radio presenter described the breakdown of their marriage as "difficult," adding that it particularly took a major toll on Jackman because of his fame. Worland's comments come after Deborra-Lee Furness broke her silence on her divorce, hinting that it was a case of "betrayal" on the part of Hugh Jackman. Following Deborra-Lee Furness' unexpected decision to speak out about her divorce from Hugh Jackman, a close friend of the "Wolverine" actor has now shared his perspective on the separation. Worland revealed on 2 GB's Ben Fordham Live Thursday that the split, which came after nearly thirty years of marriage, was "difficult." As a close friend of Jackman, he also offered a rare glimpse into how the actor has been coping, noting that Jackman's level of fame only made the situation more challenging. "No one wants anyone to go through what he is, and he is going through it publicly because of his fame," he said on the show. Despite everything, Worland believes Jackman is embracing this new chapter of his life with resilience. "I was over in New York with him last month, and he is fine. He is going along well," the radio presenter added, per the New York Post. Barely 24 hours ago, Furness spoke about her divorce in a cryptic statement that hinted at Jackman "betraying" her. "My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal," Furness said, seemingly referencing her estranged husband's romance with his Broadway co-star Sutton Foster. "It's a profound wound that cuts deep," she added, per The Blast. "It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values, and boundaries is liberation and freedom." Reflecting further on her split, Furness claimed that "one thing" she's learned is that "none of this is personal and that we are all on "our individual journeys." "I believe that the relationships in our lives are not random," she continued. "We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves…I remain grateful." The statement from Furness comes after she filed for divorce from the "Wolverine" star on May 23 at a court in New York, per the Daily Mail. The move brings an end to the estrangement between the duo, as the couple had been separated since 2023. The divorce is also expected to be finalized quickly, as the filing revealed that the duo isn't contesting over any assets. It remains unclear how the duo chose to split their assets, but sources have claimed that the settlement they reached "pleased" Furness after earlier reports that she wanted far more than Jackman was willing to offer. "There was some back and forth regarding this financial agreement, but in the end, she got what she believed she deserved," an insider told the outlet about the agreement, which includes a" handsome spousal support payment." "There is not going to be any drama with this gives closure that she needed," they added. When Furness and Jackman announced their split in 2023, they issued a joint statement, making it clear that it would be their only public comment on the matter, per People Magazine. In the statement, they emphasized their continued mutual respect and shared commitment to family, saying, "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority." Now, nearly two years later, their approach reportedly remains the same, particularly when it comes to co-parenting their children, Ava Eliot and Oscar Maximillian. "They are amicable and they are both fully committed to being the best parents that they can be," a second source told the Daily Mail about the former couple. Amid Jackman and Furness's divorce, the actor's new lover, Foster, is said to have started "slowly migrating" her belongings into his home in New York as their romance continues to blossom. The couple was recently spotted carrying moving boxes into the lavish apartment Jackman purchased with his ex-wife in 2022 for $21.12 million. Later, Sutton was seen leaving Hugh's upscale residence before hopping onto a Citi Bike rather than ordering an Uber. While the move may come as no surprise, given that the two have been "living together" and are said to be "inseparable," it has reportedly not sat well with Jackman's estranged wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. "Deb is shattered knowing Sutton is making the penthouse her own - the place she poured her soul into," an insider told the outlet about Jackman's ex, adding that she wants to be "treated fairly" as she navigates life after their split. "She wants him to be happy, but Hugh's completely green when it comes to dating. She's concerned he's leaping into living with someone else way too soon," the insider added, per the Daily Mail.
