Former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms will be honored by his alma mater Morehead State this fall.

The university will be naming their football stadium after Simms during this year's homecoming celebration, scheduled for Saturday Oct. 18.
The Kentucky native played his entire college career with the Eagles, throwing for 5,545 yards and 32 touchdowns in his four seasons with the run-heavy program. He earned Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honors in 1977.
"Phil Simms has remained loyal to MSU throughout the years," said Kelly Wells, MSU Director of Athletics. "He has given MSU his time, talent, and treasure to MSU since his days as a college athlete.
"He has mentored MSU coaches and players throughout the years. Most notable, he has hosted numerous fundraising events and personally contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the football program. This recognition is most deserving and long overdue."

The Giants picked Simms in the first round of the 1979 NFL Draft and he became a legendary figure in the organization, spending the next 14 years with the franchise.
Simms was an integral part of New York's first two Super Bowl victories in the 1986 and 1990 seasons.
He was the Super Bowl XXI MVP in the franchise's first championship, defeating the John Elway-led Denver Broncos. He set a Super Bowl record in that game with a 22-for-25 (88%) completion percentage and threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns.
The two-time Pro Bowler amassed 33,462 yards passing and 199 passing touchdowns in his career. Simms been inducted into the Giants' Ring of Honor and has his No. 11 jersey retired by the organization. He is also a member of the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He was in the headlines earlier this offseason when the Giants' first-round pick Abdul Carter requested to wear No. 11 - his number in college - to which Simms politely declined.
Along with his legacy in New York, Simms' career will be forever honored in Morehead, Kentucky at "Simms Stadium".

(AP) — In win-now mode, Philadelphia selected Baylor's VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 overall pick in the NBA draft on Wednesday night to add their trio of oft-injured All-Stars the team hopes can return to form and make the 76ers a healthy title contender. The 6-4, 193-pound Edgecombe boasts explosive athleticism that stands out at both ends, notably as an above-the-rim finisher who creates highlight-reel moments. Advertisement The 19-year-old Edgecombe could be a rookie of the year contender or a rotation player, and his numbers next season won't matter much if two-time NBA scoring champion Joel Embiid can't make a successful return from knee surgery. Embiid had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in April and the Sixers had yet to update his condition before the draft. Former All-Stars and Paul George and Tyrese Maxey slogged through injury-plagued season as the 76ers — a franchise with perennial NBA championship aspirations — finished with a woeful 24-58 record that included a 5-31 stretch to close the season. Team President Daryl Morey said he would spend the summer trying make the roster younger and more athletic to potentially help the team fight off the rash of injuries that wrecked the season and provide a bit of a cushion if the core trio are sidelined again for long stretches. He starts with Edgecome, picked over Rutgers star Ace Bailey, who canceled a pre-draft workout with the 76ers. Advertisement Edgecombe finished in the draft combine's top 10 with a 38.5-inch max vertical leap, had seven games with at least three made 3s and 11 games with three-plus steals. He shot just 34% on 3s and made just 25% (13 of 59) in off-dribble jumpers, according to Synergy's analytics rankings. Edgecombe grew up in the Bahamas. And now, he's a guaranteed millionaire. 'We came from nothing. We're truly blessed just to be in this position,' Edgecombe said after he was drafted. Embiid, Maxey and George played all of 15 games together this season and the trio played a combined 119 games. Embiid, the 2023 NBA MVP, played only 19 games. Harper joins a burgeoning roster that includes All-Stars Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox, rookie of the year Stephon Castle and veterans in Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson. Advertisement Harper was regarded as the second-best prospect available behind Duke's Cooper Flagg, who was selected first by the Dallas Mavericks. The son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper of the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, Harper averaged 19.4, 4.0 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals in his lone season at Rutgers. Harper joins a backcourt that already has point guards in Fox and Castle, but the Spurs had no hesitation selecting the 6-foot-6 guard. (AP Photo/Adam Hunger) DALLAS (AP) — The Duke plan is coming together nicely for the Mavericks. As expected, Dallas took Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft on Wednesday night. The sudden fortune of winning the lottery with a 1.8% chance officially paid off about 24 hours after the Mavs agreed on a new contract with Kyrie Irving. The nine-time All-Star guard was the top pick out of Duke 14 years ago. Advertisement Once Irving returns from a torn ACL, probably two or three months into next season, a healthy Dallas starting lineup is likely to include three one-and-done Blue Devils. The Mavs got center Dereck Lively II with the 12th overall pick in 2023. Dallas won the lottery May 12, a little more than three months after the seismic trade of young superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, a move that enraged most of the fan base. Irving's injury March 3 against Sacramento actually played a role in Dallas ending up with Flagg. It all but ended any realistic playoff hopes for the Mavs, with Davis already sidelined by a groin injury sustained in his Dallas debut a little less than a month before Irving went down. Davis returned, and the Mavericks secured the last spot in the play-in tournament as the 10th seed in the Western Conference a year after losing to Boston in five games in the NBA Finals. Advertisement Dallas won at Sacramento before losing at Memphis with the No. 8 seed in the playoffs at stake. A win there would have kept the Mavs out of the lottery. There was never much question that Irving would return, and the move was expected when he declined his $43 million player option for 2025-26 and agreed to a $119 million, three-year deal with a player option in the final season. Irving also signed a three-year deal with a player option the offseason after he joined the Mavs in a trade with Brooklyn. The idea was to pair him with Doncic for deep playoff runs, but Dallas missed the postseason in 2023 before reaching the finals for the first time since 2011 last year. Davis and Irving both have player options in 2027-28, when Flagg will be entering the third year of his rookie deal. Advertisement Flagg is the second No. 1 overall pick in Dallas franchise history.
