King briefed on upcoming state visit to Russia in August
According to a statement on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's Facebook page, the nearly hour-long briefing was delivered by Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohd Zin during an audience with His Majesty at Istana Negara here.
Also present during the briefing were Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Naiyl M Latypov; Foreign Ministry chief of protocol Datuk Yubazlan Yusof; the government's chief of ceremonies, Datuk Rozainor Ramli; and Foreign Ministry undersecretary for Europe Division, Abu Bakar Mamat.
Also in attendance were Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani and Grand Chamberlain of Istana Negara Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini. - Bernama

European powers set for fresh nuclear talks with Iran amid tensions
BERLIN: European powers are preparing for fresh talks with Iran regarding its nuclear programme, marking the first diplomatic engagement since the US attacked Iranian nuclear facilities last month. A German diplomatic source confirmed that Britain, France, and Germany, collectively known as the E3, are coordinating with Tehran to schedule discussions in the coming week. The E3 recently warned of reactivating international sanctions if Iran refuses to return to negotiations. Iran's Tasnim news agency also reported that Tehran agreed to hold talks with the three European nations, though details on the timing and location remain under discussion. Tensions escalated after Israel launched surprise strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites in June, followed by US attacks on Iran's uranium enrichment facility at Fordo and other nuclear locations. These developments disrupted earlier negotiations mediated by Oman. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Ali Larijani, a top adviser to Iran's supreme leader, to discuss regional stability and the nuclear standoff. The Kremlin stated that Putin reiterated Russia's stance on resolving the crisis diplomatically. The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which imposed restrictions on Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief, has been under strain since the US withdrew in 2018. European nations have threatened to trigger the deal's 'snapback' mechanism to reimpose sanctions if Iran fails to comply. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed the threat, stating that Europe lacks legal or moral grounds for such action. However, the German source maintained that 'if no solution is reached over the summer, snapback remains an option for the E3.' Iran has also ruled out new talks with the US if they demand an end to uranium enrichment.

First Day Of Dewan Rakyat Focuses On Post ASEAN 2025 Foreign Policy, Cost Of Hajj
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament of Dewan Rakyat which opens today will see debates on the direction of the country's foreign policy after the ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship, digital transformation and the issue of increasing hajj costs as among the main agendas. According to the meeting Order Paper displayed on Parliament portal, Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) raised a question about the future of Malaysia's foreign policy to the Foreign Minister during the oral question and answer session. He wants to know how the policy could help Malaysia navigate the increasingly complex and dynamic Indo-Pacific geopolitical landscape. The digitalisation of the country also received attention when Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) asked the Prime Minister to explain the progress of the implementation of the MYDigital initiative, especially regarding the registration of MyDigital ID, the integration of government systems with digital platforms, and its impact on the delivery of public services. The issue of digital transformation continued with a question from V. Sivakumar (PH-Batu Gajah) to the Digital Minister who wanted to know the country's preparedness for the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution including technology transfer strategies, local talent development, as well as the level of AI integration in governance and key economic sectors. Datuk Dr Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) also asked the Prime Minister regarding the justification for the increase in the 2025 hajj cost, the status of Tabung Haji investments and the amount of unused Malaysian hajj quota for the years 2020 to 2025. After the question and answer session, the sitting will continue with the tabling of the second reading of several bills including the Consumer Credit Act 2025 and the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing (Amendment) Bill 2025. Members of Parliament are also expected to focus on the motion to debate the Annual Report and Financial Statements of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) 2023 (Statute Paper 80 of 2025). The Prime Minister acknowledged that while each party within the government may hold different beliefs and stances, their unity and cooperation remain exemplary. 'Although we are a coalition of parties, the spirit to develop the country makes the cooperation and spirit extraordinary. 'I want to thank Deputy Prime Ministers (Datuk Seri Dr) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (of Barisan Nasional), (Datuk Seri) Fadillah Yusof (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) and all other colleagues for their unwavering unity spirit,' he said. When met at the event, Fadillah said this was the first time that members of the government's administration and MPs from across the country have come together for a kenduri rakyat (people's feast). Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail described the programme as a meaningful experience that allowed him to connect with residents, gain insights into their daily activities and explore the area's economic potential. The Backbenchers Club said the programme was a manifestation of principles that celebrate the values of compassion, mutual respect and unity within society. 'This is an example of the value of ihsan (compassion) and social responsibility, which are the pillars of the Malaysia Madani philosophy,' it said in a statement.
