Speeding to signal jumping, 200 driving licences to be suspended for 3 months in Noida
Noida: The traffic police have recommended suspending 200 driving licences for violations such as speeding, signal jumping and rash driving.
The move follows directives issued by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, which mandates the suspension of driving licences for three months under Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, if a driver commits over three offences such as jumping red lights, speeding, overloading, carrying passengers in goods vehicles, using a mobile phone while driving, or drunken driving.

DCP (traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav said the department has sought action against 200 people for repeated violations. "Most of these individuals committed five or more violations. We have identified repeat offenders through our surveillance and enforcement mechanisms," Yadav said. He said the department is taking measures to reduce road accidents and improve road safety across the district. The district witnessed 1,156 road accidents last year, which left 966 people injured and claimed 462 lives.

The "No Helmet, No Fuel" policy, launched on Jan 26, has shown encouraging results. Under this policy, petrol stations across Noida have been instructed to deny fuel to any two-wheeler rider or pillion passenger not wearing a helmet.
The traffic police issued over 28 lakh challans in 2024. Nearly 20 lakh of those issued to motorcyclists. Between Jan and March this year, the traffic police issued 8.1 lakh challans, out of which, 3.54 lakh (43%) were issued to bikers for not wearing helmets.
The traffic police conducted a drive on Friday at several locations across the city and issued 5,871 challans. Additionally, 35 vehicles were impounded for lacking valid documents.
Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Sector 50, said suspending licences of repeat offenders may help with enforcement. "Every day, I see people jumping signals, speeding and overloading. People should understand that these rules are there for our safety. Maybe strict action like this will finally make people take traffic laws seriously," he said.

Delhi police recover counterfeit currency racket operating from bangladesh through bihar
New Delhi: In the first seizure of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) this year, Delhi Police Special Cell recovered counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 4 lakh. The high-quality fake notes, all in Rs 500 denomination, were smuggled into Delhi via Bangladesh. The courier was traced to Datia in Bihar. The accused was identified as Naushad Alam (22), a resident of Bettiah, Bihar. Additional CP (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwaha said that the unit worked on FICN-related intelligence for the past four months. "We had credible information that an interstate syndicate was involved in the circulation of fake currency across various states, including Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR)," he said. During surveillance, it was discovered that counterfeit currency was smuggled into India through the porous Indo-Bangladesh border. Alam was finally apprehended near the Vijay Ghat Bus Stand while attempting to deliver a large consignment of fake currency to a contact of one of his associates. GPS trackers must in school buses, background checks on drivers soon
1 2 Nagpur: In a bid to tighten safety protocols for school transport, the state education department has issued a government resolution (GR) mandating alcohol and drug testing for bus drivers, cleaners, and female attendants. The resolution also directs schools to ensure that only authorised personnel are allowed inside student transport vehicles. The GR outlines new and revised safety norms ahead of the academic session, including mandatory background checks of school bus drivers with a focus on their accident history and driving record. It also makes GPS installation in buses and safety training for transport staff compulsory. A key provision in the GR relates to students using private transport such as vans and autos. "Parents must inform the school about the driver's verification and identity details. They should also maintain personal information about the drivers for their own security," the resolution states.
