Aimee Betro: How a second bungled plot was hitwoman's downfall
Aimee Betro failed at her mission to assassinate her long-distance lover's rival - but in the days after her bungled attack, she still believed she could cover her tracks and evade police. The US woman, who had been on the run for five years, was this week found guilty of conspiracy to murder after trying to shoot dead a Birmingham businessman in 2019 as part of a revenge it was a second failed plot, alongside her co-conspirator, to frame an innocent English man for Betro's failed shootings that eventually led to her a post office in Illinois, Betro sent packages of ammunition and gun parts to that innocent party in Derby - and police in England did initially arrest him, suspecting him of being responsible.A series of mistakes, though, left a plethora of DNA and other evidence that gave the police and prosecutors a strong case against Betro - leaving her facing a lengthy jail term when she returns to court for sentencing next week. Betro, 45, had travelled to England from her home in West Allis, Wisconsin, to carry out a planned assassination that was conceived by co-conspirator Mohammed Nazir, whom she had met on a dating and his father Mohammed Aslam launched a vendetta after they were injured during disorder at bridal shop Seher Boutique on Alum Rock Road in July 2018, which was owned by businessman Aslat pair were so angered by the fight - reportedly over the price of a wedding suit - they set out for revenge against Mr Mahumad, recruiting Betro to though she had no obvious criminal background, she agreed - flying to the UK to kill a man she didn't know. On the night of the attack, Betro disguised herself in a niqab and laid in wait outside the Mahumad family home in Yardley, Birmingham. When Mr Mahumad's son Sikander Ali arrived at the property, she stepped out and attempted to shoot at point blank range. Her gun jammed or malfunctioned, and Mr Ali fled the scene the early hours of the following day, she returned to the scene and fired three times at the empty day after that, Betro left the UK and the second plan came into effect, with Nazir joining her back in the US as the pair hatched a plot to target another man. CCTV footage captured Betro at a post office in Palatine, Illinois, where she shipped off the illegal goods, using the false name M Chandler. As part of the scheme, Nazir also tipped off the police about the packages in order to frame the man in England to whom it was addressed. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said DNA evidence had played a "crucial part" in proving Betro's guilt and linked her to both the attempted attack in Birmingham and the ammunition DNA was found inside all three packages sent to frame the innocent Derby man, as well as on a black glove inside a Mercedes she had used as a getaway vehicle, following the attempted from both crime scenes were also compared and shown to be from the same person, the CPS confirmed. In separate proceedings to Betro, both Nazir, 31, and Aslam, 59, each from Derby, were jailed last year for conspiracy to faced trial this summer, ending up in a British court after a globetrotting international warrant for her arrest was issued by the UK in June 2024 and when law enforcement finally caught up with her, she had spent five years on the run. She was eventually tracked down in Armenia, where she was in hiding, and extradited to the week Betro was convicted of conspiracy to murder, possession of a firearm with intent and being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of Ali, on whom she had pulled the gun and tried to fire, was last year jailed for drugs and firearm offences unrelated to the incident in Birmingham. Det Ch Insp Alastair Orencas, from West Midlands Police, said an "incredible amount of work" had gone into building a picture of Betro's activities while she was in the explained how the Wisconsin native had posted pictures and videos of famous landmarks, in efforts to pass herself off as a tourist, when her real purpose was to commit murder."We worked really closely with partners such as the Armenian Government, NCA, FBI, Crown Prosecution Service and Derbyshire Constabulary to bring Betro back to the UK to face justice," he BBC has contacted the FBI for comment. John Sheehan, head of the CPS Extradition unit, said it was a "complex" investigation and extradition process which required bringing together multiple agencies."We worked together to make sure we had a watertight prima facie case in order to lawfully arrest Aimee Betro in a foreign country without her becoming aware and potentially fleeing again," he is due to be sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on 21 August. In The Mud – Season 1 Episode 5 Recap & Review
Episode 5 Episode 5 of In The Mud starts with a flashback from five years ago, with Cecilia trying to calm a protest where Maria and Zurda are on the same team. The two women put up a fight against Cecilia, asking her to allow visitors inside the prison despite the COVID pandemic. Cecilia agrees to let some of the inmates have their cell-phones and while Maria asks Zurda to take responsibility for the phones, the protest ends. The episode moves to the present day as the police investigate the new inmate who died in the greenhouse. Cecilia tries to conceal the issue by claiming that the inmate died while trying to escape the prison. Meanwhile, Amparo is furious that Zarda was not able to protect her, upset that she had to protect herself. She threatens Zarda, which makes the latter promise to make the guilty person pay. Zarda tells Victoria that she is sure Maria was after this. At lunch, Marina joins the five, but Gladys leaves the table. Soledad, Yael and Olga wonder what's happened, and Marina explains that Gladys is mad at her. Olga starts to doubt Marina, too, when Maria is asked to meet Cecilia. Maria neither accepts nor denies responsibility for the inmate's death and asks Cecilia about Patricia and her baby to throw her off her back. Meanwhile, Yael tells Gladys that her daughter is being sent out of the prison for a short outing with the governor's wife. Gladys wonders why Cecilia is always nice to the pregnant women and wonders what is going on. Amparo gets furious when she learns that Maria has a monopoly on the meat that arrives inside the prison. Coco introduces Lana to Cleo, who promises to help reunite her with her son. Marina also talks to Lana, and during their conversation, she reveals how toxic her relationship with Martin was. She goes on to reveal how Martin was a jealous person but shared everything with his brother Dario, including her. Coco and Lana are shocked to hear this and promise to help Marina. Amparo notices the family unit and sees little children there. Elba tells Amparo how all the kids leave after they turn five years old, while the mothers stay back to complete their respective sentences. Elsewhere, Marina is thriving in prison as an adult content creator. She has all the privileges she needs while working out, taking videos and photos, eating the meals that she wants and consuming the drugs that she likes. All of this is at the behest of Zurda, who profits out of her work. China watches Marina from the side-lines when one day Zurda tells Marina that one of the men wants to have sex with her. Marina refuses, but Zurda puts her in place, declaring that she needs to entertain the client. Gladys shows up at Zurda's unit to collect the money according to her deal with Maria. The two women talk about Amparo, and Zurda threatens Gladys, asking her to keep away from Amparo. Marina is asked to go meet the client, but she asks Alan to come with her. Alan refuses, which upsets her. Gladys gives Maria the payment she had collected from the different units while Rocky gives her a massage. Maria reveals to Gladys how both her minions, Rocky and Cachete, were serving time for killing rapists. She asks Gladys to be prepared for any attack from Zurda and Amparo in the days to come. Maria gives Gladys a weapon from her collection to protect herself. That night, Amparo dreams of Cuervo but ends up suffering from a miscarriage in her sleep. Cecilia meets Amparo in the infirmary and consoles her, but the latter is shattered after losing the love of her life and his child, too. The next day, Andrés' wife shows up to pick Brisa up for a day out. At the same time, Marina's mother, Paula, comes to visit her. She asks Paula about her money. Marina is shocked to learn that Paula had spent all her money on her boyfriend. There is a cancer drive at the prison, and it is discovered that Gladys may have some growth in her breast. Gladys panics upon hearing the news but tries to keep calm. Meanwhile, Dr Soriano tells Vanessa that she is pregnant and asks her to keep the details of her pregnancy a secret. Marina learns that Alan was married and gets upset. She agrees to have sex with the client. Marina is disappointed when she is not able to climax during the intercourse, remembering her time with Alan. Yael, on the other hand, grows restless when Brisa does not come back that evening. She tries to visit Cecilia but is asked to go back. Just then, Eugenia shows up with Brisa. Yael takes her daughter back inside the prison. Meanwhile, the meat is delivered, and Maria goes to collect the best cuts for herself while Cachete and Rocky accompany her. Rocky leaves to collect Maria's medicine, leaving her behind with Cachete, who invites Amparo and the twins inside. The attack Maria while Gladys cries in the shower, worried about her diagnosis. Yael finds out about the diagnosis and tries to console Gladys. The two end up sharing a kiss while the twins kill Maria and hang her up on a meat hook. The Episode Review So, Zurda and Maria were friends before all this? No wonder Cecilia tried to cause differences between them; both of them were too much for her to handle as a team. It seems that Marina had a poor excuse for parents and had to work hard throughout her life. Even from prison, Marina is earning an income by selling her body on the internet, which makes me feel sorry for her. It's hard to see Gladys find out about her possible cancer diagnosis, but I am glad she has Yael in her journey. Given the fact that she has had a hard time coping with the loss of her husband, I hope Gladys continues to keep the bond that she has with the other four inmates. It was sad to see Maria die, but Amparo is a bigger threat to everyone inside now. I really wish she hadn't been caught because things would have been so different inside the prison. Gladys would be the best replacement for Maria now that she is dead but I am not sure how open she would be to stepping into her shoes, given the diagnosis. Former Nashville officer gets probation after alleged participation in adult video while on duty
A former Nashville police officer has been sentenced to probation on a charge of felony official misconduct after law enforcement officials say he allegedly participated in an adult video while on duty. According to court documents filed Thursday, Sean Herman entered a "best interest" plea in Nashville criminal court for one count. A second count was dismissed. Herman, 35, faces one year of supervised probation. The best interest plea means that a defendant pleads guilty while maintaining factual innocence of the crime. Additionally, he was granted judicial diversion, which means that certain eligible defendants who successfully finish probation under the judge's conditions will have their cases dismissed. They can also then request that charges be expunged from their record. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Herman was fired in May 2024 after detectives with the Specialized Investigations Divisions discovered the video and identified him while wearing his MNPD uniform. He was arrested and charged with the two counts that June. Officials say Herman can be seen taking part in a mock traffic stop in the video that was posted on OnlyFans, a site where fans pay creators for their photos and videos. The skit allegedly included Herman groping the female driver. An MNPD press release says that the video was made April 26, 2024, in a warehouse parking lot while Herman was on duty as a patrol officer. In August 2024, a state board indefinitely suspended Herman of his certification to be a law enforcement officer in Tennessee, with the understanding that he could argue to be reinstated once the criminal case is closed. Phone and email messages left with an attorney listed for Herman were not immediately returned Friday.
