Uttarakhand to make 1 lakh people learn Sanskrit to make it ‘common' spoken language
With an aim to promote Sanskrit, the second official language of the State, as common spoken language, the Uttarakhand government on Thursday announced it will make 1 lakh people learn the language through classroom or online mode.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the project for Sanskrit learning for common people will be implemented in a phased manner and the government will come up with schemes to ensure jobs for youth learning Sanskrit.
For this, the CM has asked the department concerned to make arrangements for certificate courses in 'yagya', Hindu rituals and Vedas recitation. He added that nodal officers should be appointed in the districts to promote Sanskrit.
Mr. Dhami was speaking at the 10th meeting of the General Committee of Uttarakhand Sanskrit Academy during which he instructed that arrangements should be made for better training of 16 sanskars (sacraments) for children studying Sanskrit. 'In the first phase, 100 children, and thereafter, every year by setting a target, the youth should be given training in the same. Also, competitions will be organized to make short films on various contemporary topics in Sanskrit along with schools organising debates, essay writing and shlok-writing competitions in the language,' Mr. Dhami said.
Mr. Dhami promised that those who play an important role in teaching, writing, preservation and promotion of Sanskrit language will be honoured monetarily too. He added that it should be ensured that the nameplates in all offices should also be in Sanskrit language.
Sanskrit Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that, at present, a total of 13 villages, one village in each district of the State, are being made Sanskrit Gram. This will be expanded to the block level in a phased manner. He suggested making arrangements like scholarship scheme for Sanskrit students and incentive scheme for priests to promote Sanskrit in the State. In the meeting, the members of the committee suggested that Sanskrit questions should be added in competitive examinations.
'Research in Sanskrit should be promoted,' he said.

In the video, she allegedly criticised Bollywood celebrities for staying silent on Operation Sindoor. After intense trolling and threats in the comments, Panoli removed the video and issued a public apology on 15 May. Earlier on 3 June, the Calcutta High Court had rejected the interim bail plea of Panoli. On 2 June, Shree Ram Swabhiman Parishad filed a formal complaint against Wajahat Khan with the Kolkata Police, accusing him of using derogatory, inflammatory, and sexually explicit language targeting Hindu deities, religious traditions, and the community at large. In the letter to the Officer-in-Charge of the Garden Reach Police Station, Shree Ram Swabhiman Parishad alleged that Khan in his social media posts referred Hindus by using terms including "rapist cultures" and "urine drinkers". The Hindu body requested the police to take action against Khan under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.

No guarantee when Cong govt will fall, says R Ashoka
Mangaluru: Opposition leader R Ashoka said that there is no guarantee for the Congress govt in Karnataka. "Only two years remain, but there is no guarantee when this govt will fall. All police stations here have been made Congress stations. Mangaluru City police commissioner and the SP of Dakshina Kannada were transferred only to ensure that the police department dances to the tunes of the govt," Ashoka told reporters here on Monday. "How many cases does DK Shivakumar have, and didn't he go to jail? In how many cases has Rahul Gandhi obtained bail? The court should decide who is a convict," he said.

Families roll beedis, cook food while protesting for homes
Mangaluru: With the indefinite dharna launched by the families of Kuppepadavu village in the Mangaluru North constituency, seeking sites and homes, entering its 11th day on Monday, women participating in the protest turned the protest venue into their workplace to roll beedis. Muneer Katipalla, district secretary of CPM, Dakshina Kannada, said that there are hundreds of poor families without their own homes or land who have been waiting for decades, having applied to the panchayat for plots. Six years ago, in a rush before the elections, families were allocated plots and distributed title deeds to 97 families. However, even after six years of receiving the title deeds, the plots were not handed over to the families, he said. Frustrated poor families formed a protest committee under the guidance of local labour organisations and CPM members and started an indefinite protest in front of the Kuppepadavu gram panchayat. Despite holding several sit-ins and protests since Jan, justice was not served.
