The Fiat Tris Might Be the Cutest Way From A to B on Three Wheels
Meet the Tris, a new compact three-wheeler from Fiat that measures 10.4 feet long and has a maximum driving range of 56 miles on the WMTC test.
It's effectively an electric rickshaw or tuk-tuk that comes in three configurations: chassis cabin, flatbed, and pickup.
Fiat says the Tris is designed for Africa and the Middle East, and it definitely won't come to the United States—with how small it is, why would it?
What's the purpose of a vehicle? Is getting you and your cargo from point A to B in a safe and timely manner the most important thing? Probably. But if looking like your car (if you can call it that) could dodge its way to victory around Mario Kart's Moo Moo Meadows is your goal, Fiat has you covered with the perfect electric three-wheeler called the Tris.
The Tris is effectively an electric rickshaw or tuk-tuk, and it's available in three configurations: chassis-cabin, flatbed, and pickup. According to Fiat, the pickup version is perfect for delivering fruit, sand, or furniture, while the other two configurations make great bases for upfitting.
Fiat
At 10.4 feet long, the Tris is even smaller than a typical kei truck. While the Tris might be perfect for last-mile deliveries, it won't take you anywhere fast. Fiat says the Tris packs a whopping 12 horsepower and 33 pound-feet of torque—enough for a top speed of 28 mph. You won't need to worry about the speed wobbles at that dizzying speed because the wide-track rear axle, enlarged wheelbase, and pint-sized tires keep the Tris stable in urban and rural environments.
Charging is done via a built-in 220-volt plug that juices the 7-kWh battery pack. Getting from zero to 80 percent takes a claimed 3.5 hours. A full recharge takes nearly five hours. Fiat also claims the Tris has an estimated 56 miles of range on the WMTC (World Motorcycle Test Cycle) standard.
Sure, the lack of any doors might be a bit concerning for some, but from what we gather, rickshaws without doors are about as abundant as those with them. Fiat plans to sell the Tris in Africa and the Middle East, but hinted that it could expand sales to Europe in the future.

Platinum Chases Gold Hitting A Four Year High Of $1218/oz
Platinum has returned as a precious metals star, delivery fat profits as investors rotate funds out of gold, the sector leader. Platinum's sister metal palladium is also rising strongly. Both platinum and palladium seem likely to continue outperforming as a decade of oversupply gives way to signs of a shortage developing. A miner handles a piece of raw platinum ore in South Africa. Photographer: Waldo Swiegers/Bloomberg Over the past month the platinum price has risen by 24% to a four-year high of $1218 an ounce, while palladium is up 13% at $1077/oz. Gold, on the other hand, has risen by 1.5% to $3205/oz, though that modest move needs to be seen against a background of three spectacular years of soaring demand and an 83% increase from a price around $1810/oz in June 2022. The platinum rebound has been a long time coming though some investors might remember that it wasn't that long ago when the platinum price was comfortably higher than gold. In mid-2008 an ounce of platinum cost $2068, more than double gold which was selling for $903/oz. Demand for platinum and palladium has traditionally been driven by a combination of jewelry and industrial uses, especially for in the catalytic converters of internal combustion engines where they play a role in minimising the emission of environmentally damaging nitrous oxide. But in 2015 the platinum market crashed after it was revealed that the big German car maker Volkswagen had been falsifying exhaust system measurement sparking a scandal dubbed Dieselgate. Within months the platinum price had crashed to just $804/oz. Palladium, which is the preferred metal in the exhausts of gasoline powered vehicles, also fell but not as steeply. Further weighing on the prices of platinum and palladium has been the rise in sales of electric vehicles, which do not require a catalytic converter – though hybrid electric cars do, and in some case their converters require a heavier coating of platinum or palladium. A General Motors catalytic converters. (Photo by Reuter Raymond/Sygma via Getty Images) But the major factor in this year's platinum revival is as simple as the run-down of stockpiles which date back to the Dieselgate days meaning that newly mined supply is struggling to keep up with demand. Mines in South Africa, the major source of platinum, have cut back during the years of low prices, as have the palladium mines of Russia which are the primary source of that metal. A measure of the changing fundamentals of the platinum market came last month in a report from the World Platinum Investment Council (WPIC) which forecast a supply deficit this year of 966,000oz, the third consecutive deficit year. More importantly, the latest deficit could put pressure on the platinum price because the WPIC is forecasting that the stockpile will shrink to 2.16 million ounces, enough to meet just three months of demand. The sudden shift in the platinum market, which has really been 10-years in the making, has sparked a sharp increase in the prices of platinum miners with the biggest beneficiary being Valterra Platinum, the renamed Anglo American Platinum. Since listing earlier this month on the London Stock Exchange Valterra shares have followed the platinum price, up 24%. Smaller platinum stocks have done better. Zimplats, a Zimbabwe-focused miner controlled by South Africa's Impala Platinum has risen by 60% over the past month while Australian-listed Southern Palladium, which is planning to develop a new platinum mine in South Africa is up 120%.

'I Haven't Seen This Car Before:' Mechanic Works on Customer's Ford. Then He Takes a Closer Look at the Windshield Sticker
One mechanic is about to change the oil on his new customer's Ford when he takes a closer look at a sticker on the windshield. With nearly 20,000 miles between oil changes, is this Ford a ticking time bomb, or is it a simple case of a forgetful technician? TikTok user Rotor Lathe (@ posted his discovery on Thursday. In the video, he revealed a new customer who brought their car in for an oil change. "Oil change sticker says 12/19/23 at 16,000, roughly," he said. "And we've got 35,013 miles on this car. I can only imagine what this oil is going to look like." Clearly, Lathe intended the video as a sincere PSA, but the internet pointed out another possibility (as it always does). "Hear me out," wrote one viewer. "Could it be possible that the customer has had their oil changed but nobody put a sticker on it?" Someone else noted the cliffhanger with sarcasm. "I love the part where you show us the oil," they wrote. "They could have done [the oil change] themselves in between," suggested another person. "Just bought a '93 Blazer and the sticker says '08... Still has a few hundred miles to go," wrote someone else. How Many Oil Changes Did the Customer Miss? Let's take the sticker at face value and assume that the Ford's owner drove the car without an oil change for approximately 19,000 miles. If you accept AAA's general advice and change your oil every 3,000-5,000 miles, it means this car owner might've skipped out on three or four oil changes. How Bad Is This On the Car Maintenance Neglect Scale? According to the folks on this Reddit thread posted to r/cars three years ago, it's high up there. The original poster said they drove 17,000 miles in a 1986 Honda CRX Si. "Drove 45,000 miles a year 95 percent on the highway, so at least the miles were easy..." the Redditor wrote. In the comments, a user wrote, "There's a guy on the Civicx forum right now who went 20,000 miles on his tuned Si, without an oil change. His engine is [ruined] and he's getting cooked by the members lol." Someone else wrote, "25,000 miles. My fault, but only because I didn't know any better. I knew it needed maintenance, but didn't know anything about it. It wasn't until I got my first oil change and looked at the little sticker in the corner of the window that showed 'next change in 3,000 miles.' Oops." Motor1 reached out to Lathe via TikTok for comment. It reached out to Ford via email. They responded with sound advice. The Ford representative said, "Customers should read their owner's manual for information about maintenance intervals."
