Plan ahead: TRAX Red Line to be rerouted during ‘MexTour' event at Rice Eccles Stadium

SALT LAKE CITY () — On Saturday, June 7, the Mexican national soccer team will be making a rare visit to the Beehive State against Switzerland at Rice Eccles Stadium. But if you were planning on making use of the TRAX's Red Line train to make it to the stadium, you'll need to adjust your travel plans. The TRAX line, which typically runs up 400 South to Rice Eccles Stadium on the University of Utah campus, will and along Main Street in downtown Salt Lake City. This temporary reroute could cause significant delays of up to 45 minutes to the commute, the University of Utah warned. 6 Utah cities ranked among the best 250 places to live in the U.S. — and Salt Lake didn't make the cut To make up for the lack of trains, UTA plans to increase services for bus routes 1, 2, and 4 to help passengers traveling to the University of Utah. Passengers will be encouraged to take the Red Line to Gallivan Plaza Station and transfer to any of the three bus lines to reach the stadium in time for the game. The Red Line closure will allow for UTA maintenance crews to perform maintenance near the Rice-Eccles Stadium station, including at the S-Curve to the University of Utah. The closure and reroute are expected to be in place until Aug. 17. However, normal services will temporarily resume over the July 4 weekend to help accommodate events on the University of Utah campus. Antonio Filosa from Jeep is the new Stellantis CEO

Stellantis has announced ex-Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa is its new CEO, replacing Carlos Tavares. Filosa will report to Stellantis chairman John Elkann. A new leadership team will be named shortly for the 14 brands under the Stellantis umbrella. Tavares was ousted from the CEO position following falling sales in the US. The company says Filosa was selected as Tavares's replacement based on his proven track record, and leadership skills. His global management experience was also taken into consideration. He oversaw the launch of the Jeep Avenger crossover. This EV has driven substantial growth for Jeep in Europe. Filosa also oversaw development of Recon and Wagoneer S. More recently, he launched the new-generation Jeep Compass which should boost Jeep sales globally. Moreover, he briefly held the post of COO for the Americas. There he drove a significant reduction in dealer stock, among other things. Of his new position, Filosa said: 'It is my great honour to be named the CEO of this fantastic company. I am grateful…for the confidence they have placed in me to lead our business during this pivotal time for our industry. 'We have the world's best and most iconic brands in automotive history and an over 100-year heritage of innovation. 'That legacy, combined with our relentless dedication to giving our customers the products and services they love, will continue to be key to our success.' Elkann said: 'Antonio's deep understanding of our company…and of our industry equip him perfectly for the role of chief executive officer…' 'I have worked closely with Antonio over the past six months… and his strong and effective leadership…have confirmed the excellent qualities he brings to the role. 'Together with the entire board, I look forward to working with him.'

Stellantis' newly appointed CEO chooses Europe for first leg of company tour

MILAN, May 29 (Reuters) - Stellantis' ( opens new tab newly appointed CEO Antonio Filosa on Thursday picked Europe to kick off a tour of the automaker's production sites and offices before formally taking up his new job at the end of next month. Filosa's decision to begin his visits on the continent signalled an intention to start building solid relations in Stellantis' number two market after North America, having led the latter since October. Stellantis, the maker of brands including Jeep, Fiat, Peugeot, Chrysler and Opel, has seen its European market share decline over the last two years and also faces regulatory uncertainty as many expect the European Union could slow the shift towards auto electrification. Although Italian by nationality, Filosa, now based in the United States, has hardly ever worked in Italy or Europe. The CEO joined Fiat, now part of Stellantis, in 1999, where he held several roles, predominantly in Latin America. On Thursday morning Filosa was at the historic Italian Mirafiori plant, in Turin, Stellantis said. A source said he was scheduled to meet local management in the afternoon in the northern city which is home to Fiat. The source added that on Wednesday, the day of his official appointment, Filosa had already been in France, in Paris and at the Peugeot facility in Sochaux. Meetings with unions have not been scheduled and he is not expected to make any official appearances in his new role before June 23. Filosa will visit Stellantis' operations in Spain on Friday and is expected to be in Germany on Monday, the source said.

Jeep owner Stellantis names Italian Antonio Filosa as new CEO

HighlightsStellantis has appointed Antonio Filosa as the new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Carlos Tavares, who was dismissed in December 2024. Antonio Filosa, who has over 25 years of experience in the automotive industry and previously served as Chief Executive of the Jeep brand, will officially assume his CEO powers on June 23, 2025. Stellantis is facing challenges in the North American market, with declining sales and the impact of US President Donald Trump's 25-percent tariffs on the automotive industry, prompting the company to drop its annual financial guidance. Auto giant Stellantis , whose brands include Jeep , Peugeot and Fiat , on Wednesday named company veteran Antonio Filosa as its new chief executive officer as the US-European group navigates US tariffs and slumping North American sales . The Italian manager, who has led Stellantis in North and South America, will succeed Carlos Tavares , who was sacked in December. Filosa, who joined Fiat in 1999, recalled that his first job was as a paint shop quality supervisor at a plant in Spain, where he worked the night shift. "This company is in my blood and I couldn't be more proud of the chance to work with all of you," Filosa said in a letter to employees seen by AFP. Filosa, 51, was unanimously selected by the board following a "thorough search process of internal and external candidates", Stellantis said in a statement. Stellantis said it would call an extraordinary shareholder meeting in the coming days to elect Filosa to the board to serve as an executive director of the company. "Meanwhile, to give him full authority and ensure an efficient transition, the Board has granted him CEO powers effective June 23," the statement said. "The Board selected Antonio Filosa to be CEO based on his proven track record of hands-on success during his more than 25 years in the automotive industry," Stellantis said. The company also praised "the depth and span of his experience around the world, his unrivalled knowledge of the Company and his recognised leadership qualities". Stellantis shares were flat at around midday following the announcement. - Tavares: good times, bad times - Stellantis, whose other brands include Ram trucks, Dodge, Chrysler and Maserati, has struggled with falling sales in its key North American market. US President Donald Trump's 25-percent tariffs on the car industry have added to the company's woes. Last month, Stellantis dropped its annual financial guidance due to uncertainty over the levies. Filosa, who has previously served as chief executive of the Jeep brand, was promoted to the role of chief operating officer for the Americas region in December. "Since his appointment, he has initiated the strengthening of the US operations," Stellantis said, noting that he "significantly" reduced excessive inventories at dealerships and reorganised the leadership team. Filosa was also named to the new role of chief quality officer earlier this year. Tavares engineered one of the most ambitious mergers in automotive history in 2021, when more than a dozen brands were put under the same roof. The Portuguese executive, who headed French group Peugeot-Citroen at the time, was appointed chief executive of the newly created French-Italian-American behemoth Stellantis. His three-year tenure was marked by high profit margins that were the envy of its rivals in the auto industry but the good times ended last year as sales plummeted in the United States. When his abrupt resignation was announced in December, Stellantis pointed out that "different views" had emerged between the board and Tavares. In February, the group shifted focus to the quality of its vehicles, unravelling the legacy left by CEO Carlos Tavares, a staunch advocate of cost-cutting. After the first few years marked by record profits, the disappointing quality of certain models and prices that were too high compared to the competition contributed to the collapse of the group's sales in the United States in 2024. In France, the CFE-CGC union said it expects Filosa to "break with the authoritarian, cost-cutting management style of the Tavares era". The Peugeot family, the second-biggest shareholder in Stellantis, issued a statement hailing Filosa's "in-depth knowledge of the realities on the ground and close understanding of the industrial culture" in the group.
