PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will file an application to forfeit the Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur next week, says its chief, Azam Baki.
Azam said the forfeiture application would be filed under Section 55 or 56 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla), Utusan Malaysia reported.
Section 56 of Amla provides for the forfeiture of property where there is no prosecution, if a High Court judge is satisfied that the asset was the subject-matter or evidence relating to the commission of an offence under the Act, the proceeds of an unlawful activity, or the instrumentalities of an offence.
MACC first seized the 274m-tall tower owned by the late Daim Zainuddin and his family under the MACC Act in December 2023.
It previously said it could seize the tower for up to 18 months pending investigations. Yesterday, it announced it had seized the tower again, this time under Amla.
Daim's widow, Naimah Khalid, plans to challenge the seizure in court.
Last month, MACC opened eight new investigation papers into 'high-value' assets linked to Daim and his family members after receiving new information from overseas.

Woman arrested at Changi Airport Terminal 1 check-in as travellers look on

SINGAPORE, June 8 — A 42-year-old woman was arrested at Changi Airport Terminal 1 in Singapore on Thursday evening, sparking a scene that unfolded in front of stunned travellers — and was captured on video by a bystander. Footage of the arrest, shared on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, showed the woman being restrained by three police officers near a check-in counter as passengers — including two young children — looked on. A black backpack and a stuffed plastic bag lay nearby. Despite the drama, passengers appeared to continue checking in their luggage unfazed. The person who posted the video described the scene as causing a 'commotion', though no further details were provided. In response to media queries, the Singapore Police Force said they received a call for assistance at around 6:25pm on June 6. The woman was arrested for allegedly using abusive language against a public servant. No other details were released by the police at the time of writing. Investigations are ongoing.

Police: Victims in Tanjung Harapan boat tragedy believed not to have been wearing life jackets, complicating rescue

KLANG, June 7 — All victims involved in the capsized boat incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan here yesterday were believed not to be wearing life jackets. North Klang District Police chief ACP S Vijaya Rao said initial investigations also revealed that the boat, which was being test-driven, was operated by its owner at the time. He said the absence of life jackets had made the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the remaining two missing victims among the six people on board more difficult. 'Those who engage in activities at sea must wear life jackets, which are very useful during emergencies like this capsized boat incident, in addition to having swimming skills,' he said at a press conference at the search site in Tanjung Harapan today. Vijaya said the location where the boat capsized had been identified, but strong currents may have swept the two missing victims away and caused them to drown. Meanwhile, he said police had recorded statements from three individuals, including one survivor. 'The actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined, and the case is being investigated under Section 280 of the Penal Code,' he said. In the incident at about 5 pm, three individuals including a child died, one survived (Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17), while a married couple remains missing. The deceased victims were Darren Gan, 3; Cheu Son Hin, 50; and Fong Yong Sen, 29, while those still missing have been identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama. — Bernama

The victim had gone ahead to check on the water depth but was swept away by currents and went missing,' he said in a statement today, adding that the body has been sent to Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital forensics unit, Kuala Krai for autopsy.
