Nine-Year-Old Dies After Tragic Incident In Pennsylvania Water Park

A day of fun at Hersheypark's water park in Pennsylvania turned tragic for a nine-year-old boy who lost his life on July 24. The incident, which occurred at The Boardwalk, the themed waterpark section within the park, was confirmed in an official statement released by Hershey Entertainment and Resorts.
Lifeguards at the park immediately responded when they noticed the child in distress, launching a swift rescue operation. They were supported by on-site medical personnel and first responders. Despite their efforts and the child being promptly transferred to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for emergency treatment, he was later pronounced dead.
'Tonight, a nine-year-old guest was tragically lost at The Boardwalk at Hersheypark," stated John Lawn, CEO of Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, in a message shared on X.
The statement also acknowledged the swift action taken by the team on the ground. Lifeguards initiated the rescue as soon as they realised the child needed help. Medical support followed immediately, both on-site and at the medical centre. However, the outcome remained devastating.
'Our hearts break for this child and the child's family," Lawn added, though the identity of the boy and his family has not been disclosed.
As of now, the company has not revealed how the incident occurred or what specific circumstances led to the child's death. The exact location within the water park where the tragedy took place also remains undisclosed.
'We ask for privacy for the family and for our team members who are deeply affected by this loss," the statement read.
According to the New York Post, The Boardwalk at Hersheypark features 16 water attractions. These include 'The Shore," a wave pool with a depth of six feet and a capacity of 378,000 gallons, and a popular water slide known as 'Whitecap Racer".
John Lawn also confirmed that the company is undertaking an internal review of the incident. He emphasised that guest safety remains their highest priority.
'To every family who visits Hersheypark, please know this: your safety and well-being drive every decision we make," Lawn stated.
He concluded, 'We will thoroughly investigate this tragedy and honour the memory of this young guest by continuing our focus on ensuring the safety of our guests at Hersheypark."

Delhi breathes cleanest July air in 7 years: CAQM
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) Delhi recorded its cleanest July air in seven years with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) falling to 78, in the 'satisfactory' category, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said on Thursday. The AQI this July was even better than 2020, when pollution levels had dropped significantly due to restrictions on movement and industrial activity during to the COVID-19 lockdown. According to the CAQM, the average AQI for July in previous years stood at 104 in 2018, 134 in 2019, 84 in 2020, 110 in 2021, 87 in 2022, 84 in 2023 and 96 in 2024. The month also saw the highest number of days with 'satisfactory' air quality, 29 this year compared to 16 in 2018, 12 in 2019, 25 in 2020, 20 in 2021, 25 in 2022, 26 in 2023 and 17 in 2024. For the January-July period, Delhi reported significant improvement in air quality with the average AQI dropping to 184 from 204 in 2024 and 183 in 2023. The AQI during the same period was 209 in 2022, 205 in 2021, 159 in 2020, 215 in 2019 and 217 in 2018. There was not a single day with an AQI above 400 this year. In contrast, such days were recorded multiple times in previous years. The city also witnessed its lowest levels of PM2.5 and PM10 between January and July this year. The PM2.5 concentration averaged 79 micrograms per cubic metre, the lowest since 2018 except for the lockdown year. It was 94 in 2024, 83 in 2023, 93 in 2022, 97 in 2021, 73 in 2020, 99 in 2019 and 103 in 2018. Similarly, PM10 levels averaged 180 micrograms per cubic metre, compared to 209 in 2024, 184 in 2023, 218 in 2022, 210 in 2021, 147 in 2020, 224 in 2019 and 234 in 2018. The CAQM said favourable meteorological conditions and coordinated efforts to control and abate air pollution contributed to the significant improvement. The commission added that measures would be intensified to sustain and further enhance air quality in the coming months. ITBP-DBT forge partnership to address challenges faced by border guarding troops
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) The ITBP, responsible for guarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, has signed an agreement with the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) to find scientific solutions for the health and environmental challenges faced by troops at high-altitude locations. As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the experts from the two sides will work to tackle issues like high-altitude sickness, low oxygen (hypoxia) and extreme cold conditions, an official statement said. They will also find ways to bring diagnostic tools and telemedicine to remote border posts and do research work to improve diet, stress relief methods and genetic studies for better adaptation to harsh climates, an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) spokesperson said. The agreement was signed by the officials from the two sides in the presence of DBT Secretary Rajesh S Gokhale and ITBP Director General Rahul Rasgotra, he said. The DBT functions under the Ministry of Science and Technology. The MoU also aims to hold regular interactions between DBT scientists and ITBP medical teams to stay updated with the latest innovations, the spokesperson said. He said development of special nutrition packs, emergency medical kits and cold-weather health gear for the troops is also a subject of work as part of this partnership. The ITBP's nearly 90,000 personnel are primarily tasked with guarding the 3,488-km-long LAC, apart from rendering a variety of duties in the internal security domain of the country under the Union home ministry. TN CM distributes laptops to Adi Dravidar students
Agency: PTI Chennai, Jul 31 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday distributed laptops to 136 Adi Dravidar and Tribal students who secured admissions to higher education institutions in the state. Describing the event as 'heart-warming," the Chief Minister said it was his first public event after he was discharged from the hospital (on July 27). He developed sudden giddiness during his morning walk and was admitted to a hospital here on July 21. 'Hearing about their educational journey – rising from extremely disadvantaged families that faced hardship – and their dedication to education moved my heart and brought tears to my eyes," he said in a post on the social media platform 'X' and wished them success. The Chief Minister would launch the government's flagship health programme 'Nalam Kakkum Stalin" at St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Mylapore, here on August 2. State Health Minister Ma Subramanian, who inspected the preparations, said the scheme was a major initiative towards improving public health access in the state. 'This programme has been designed to provide comprehensive health check-ups for the people, thus eliminating the need to visit hospitals for expensive full-body medical examinations," Subramanian told reporters here. Medical reports containing all the test results, including blood test, ECG, X-Ray, USG, and breast cancer screening, will be provided, he added. The programme will offer a wide range of medical services for consultation and treatment, surgery, in specialisations such as orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, cardiology, neurology, dermatology, dentistry, ophthalmology, ENT, psychiatry, pulmonary medicine. Indian systems of medicine will also be included in the programme, a release here said. Meanwhile, two office buildings of the State Tax Department constructed by the Commercial Tax Department at a cost of Rs 4.35 crore, and 12 Sub-Registrar office buildings established by the Registration Department for Rs 22.69 crore, besides two new Sub-Registrar Offices at Navalur and Kelambakkam in the Chengalpattu Registration district, were inaugurated by the Chief Minister today.
