Mock sign fitted to Chelmsford viaduct after boat situation
A tongue-in-cheek road sign has been fitted to the side of a railway viaduct where a £1m yacht was wrongly suspected of getting stuck.Photographs of the 15m (50 ft) vessel passing through arches on the A1060 in Chelmsford city centre last April were posted online and viewed hundreds of thousands of times.The company that transported the boat said it did not get stuck, it was simply passing through slowly.Essex Highways urged against unofficial road signs being installed.
"We're aware of the unofficial sign that was placed on the viaduct," an Essex Highways spokesperson added."We kindly urge the public to not install unofficial signs, as they can mislead people and cause confusion."James Barke, joint managing director of the Essex-based boat dealership that transported the vessel, said he saw the funny side of the sign being fitted."Anything that makes people laugh in January is a good thing - and anything to do with boats is fun anyway," he said."I don't condone people putting up unofficial road signs but someone in Chelmsford clearly has a great sense of humour."
Mr Barke said no damage was caused to the yacht as it passed through the arches, and that there was a 5cm (2 inch) clearance either side of the hull.The viaduct was built between 1840 and 1843 and is used by Greater Anglia trains heading in and out of Chelmsford.

Teenager airlifted to hospital after Pembroke bus collision
Emergency services responded just after 3.30pm following reports of a crash involving a teenager and a service bus. Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the incident led to the closure of the B4322 Pembroke Road from A4139 Ferry Lane to Imble Lane. The road remained closed for several hours, reopening at 7pm. A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Police received a report of a road traffic collision involving a teenager and a service bus just after 3.30pm, Tuesday, 10th June. "The teenager was taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries. "The road was closed and reopened at 7pm." Wales Air Ambulance also attended the scene. A spokesperson for Wales Air Ambulance said: "I can confirm the Wales Air Ambulance attended an incident in that region yesterday afternoon (10/06/25). Our Dafen-based crew were allocated at 15:40 and arrived at the scene, via air, at 16:24. "Our involvement concluded at 17:46." Local reports described the road as "completely closed and taped off" near the entrance to the new housing estate, with diversions in place. The AA reported that traffic was "coping well" despite the closure.

EV Provider Holds Senedd Showcase
Cardiff-based electric vehicle (EV) provider FleetEV hosted a pop-up event at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay to showcase their EV and smart charging solutions to key stakeholders. At the event FleetEV met politicians and highlighted their delivery of more than 400 EVs to the Welsh public sector in the past year through the Welsh Government Commercial Delivery (WGCD) framework for electric vehicle provision, a move which the firm says saved the sector more £1.2 million. Sister company PLUG Charging also showcased their innovative lamp column charger after recently celebrating their placement on the Welsh Government's EV Charging Infrastructure Framework. This major contract will see them roll out a variety of sustainable charging solutions across Wales, including EV charger installations, lamp column chargers, roof solar, and solar car ports, reinforcing their role as a leader in EV infrastructure. Joining the two businesses were players from the Netball Super League team LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons, of which PLUG Charging are sustainability partners for the 2025 season. Sustainability officer Elle McDonald was joined by teammate Jacqui Newton as they hosted a goal-scoring challenge and prize giveaway. 2B Enterprising was also in attendance, sharing information on 'The Bumbles of Honeywood' enterprise programme for primary schools. FleetEV currently delivers essential skills workshops to 20 schools across Wales through the programme. From the Senedd, attendees included Deputy Plaid Cymru Leader and Climate Change Spokesperson, Delyth Jewell, Chair of the Climate Change, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, Llyr Gruffydd, and Plaid Cymru Local Government and Transport Spokesperson, Peredur Owen Griffiths. From Cardiff Council, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Strategic Planning & Transport, Daniel De'Ath made an appearance, among others. Presteigne residents to have say over former Kaye site plans
PLANNERS will meet with Presteigne residents next week following news that a derelict site in the town that once housed a car parts manufacturer could finally be developed. After lying derelict for almost 15 years, the former Kaye Presteigne site could be transformed into an area that would include 61 homes, a healthcare facility and a retail store. A pre-application consultation exercise has been carried out by Shrewsbury-based property consultants Berrys, with an outline planning application expected to follow soon. Presteigne county councillor Beverley Baynham says she has now met with both Berrys and the applicant, in order to stress the importance of any future development to the town and its residents. A drop-in event has been scheduled to take place next Monday, June 16. 'Following the pre-planning consultation for the Kayes site I met with the applicant and the planning agent last week where I impressed on them the importance of the proposed development on the community,' Cllr Baynham said on her Facebook page on Tuesday. 'I am pleased to say they have agreed to hold a drop-in session on Monday 16th June from 3pm at (the) East Radnor Day Centre building on Scottleton Street. 'This is your opportunity to tell them what you would and would not like to see progress to a planning application.' Kaye Presteigne made parts for car engines, including steering and braking mechanisms, before entering administration in 2010. The foundry, which was known more fondly as Kaye Alloys or simply as 'The Factory', closed in April 2011, with the loss of 100 jobs; 80 per cent of the company's workforce were thought to have lived in Presteigne. Kaye Presteigne was formed in 2006, saving more than 130 jobs, after the former owners J L French went into administration. There has been a foundry in Presteigne since the 1940s and its closure in 2011 brought down the curtain on more than 60 years of it being one of the largest employers in the area. Soon after, the buildings were demolished and the site has lain dormant ever since. 'Whilst the site owners have sought to keep the site secure and tidy, the site is an eyesore, significantly detracting from Presteigne's townscape,' said Berrys, in a planning statement. 'As a consequence, while the site owners have sought to keep the site secure and tidy, the site can attract trespass, vandalism, fly tipping and other anti-social behaviour.' It is envisaged that the proposed development will comprise of 61 houses in total, including 18 1-bed, 22 2-bed, 10 3-bed and 2 4-bed homes; and 3 1-bed, 5 2-bed and 1 3-bed bungalows, in addition to the healthcare and retail facilities. 'The initial application is an outline planning application, with all matters reserved aside from access in order to establish the principle of the proposed development,' continued the planning statement. 'A detailed scheme for the site, including layout, landscaping, detailed design and appearance has yet to be drawn up.'
