Aurora crash: Man killed, 2 injured in three-vehicle collision, police say
A 19-year-old man died after a three-vehicle crash around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday on Butterfield Road in Aurora.
The crash involved a red Saturn SUV, a semi-truck, and a third vehicle; two other drivers were hospitalized with injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash; the Kane County coroner has not yet released the victim's identity.
AURORA, Ill. - A man died and two others were injured in a three-vehicle crash early Wednesday in west suburban Aurora, according to police.
What we know
The crash occurred about 6:30 a.m. on Butterfield Road near Eola Road.
Aurora police said a red Saturn SUV, driven by a 19-year-old man, collided with a semi-truck just east of Hedge Row Drive. A third vehicle was also involved.
All three vehicles sustained significant damage.
The drivers of the semi-truck and the third vehicle were taken to area hospitals with injuries. Their conditions were not immediately known.
The 19-year-old driver of the Saturn had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he died at 7:32 a.m., police said.

The Kane County Coroner's Office has not released the man's identity. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.

Northern Minnesota man sentenced to 25+ years in prison for killing man, hiding remains in tote
A judge on Thursday sentenced a 23-year-old northern Minnesota man to more than 25 years in prison for his role in the murder of another man whose partial remains were found in a tote on the Mille Lacs Lake shoreline in 2023. Bradley Weyaus, of Isle, was convicted of second-degree murder in May for the death of 25-year-old Rodney Pendegayosh Jr. Through a plea deal, charges of fleeing a peace officer and interference with a dead body were dropped. Pendegayosh's parents had reported him missing the day before highway maintenance workers found his body inside a tote bound with bungee cords and industrial tape near the 14200 block of Twilight Road in Kathio Township on March 21, 2023. Charges say shortly after the tote was discovered, an investigator driving to the scene observed a white Saturn, similar to one associated with Weyaus, heading in the same direction. The driver refused to pull over for the investigator and allegedly accelerated away at a high rate of speed. Law enforcement later located the vehicle at a rural property with several buildings near Southport Road in Mille Lacs County, according to charges. Police say a resident of the property told officers the car had been driven by Weyaus. Officers arrested Weyaus, who had been hiding in one of the buildings on the property, charges say, and recovered two duffel bags containing items, including a hammer, a hacksaw and industrial tape consistent with the tape on the tote. Investigators allegedly found several items in the trash of a residence Weyaus had been staying at, including pieces of carpet with what appeared to be blood stains on them and Pendegayosh's identification card cut into two pieces. Inside the Weyaus' vehicle, police say they discovered a spent shotgun shell. Pendegayosh's throat area contained "several pellets of a type found in buckshot shotgun shells." Weyaus' girlfriend, Alexis Elling, was also charged in connection with the murder. Charges say Elling was present while the tote was moved. When contacted by police, Elling allegedly admitted that, while she did not help place Pendegayosh's body in the container, she did help move it, knowing that his body was inside. Authorities said that they believe the motive for the murder had to do with Elling's brother and the victim's alleged involvement in his fentanyl overdose earlier in the year. Elling was convicted of felony aiding an offender and is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 15. The video above originally aired on March 28, 2023.

Teen hospitalized after being shot multiple times in Plainfield, Illinois, police say
A 17-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting in Plainfield, Illinois, over the weekend. On Saturday, around 10:45 p.m., Plainfield police and fire crews responded to the 24400 block of West Lockport Street for a person shot. Arriving officers found the 17-year-old, who suffered multiple gunshots, conscious and breathing, police said. An officer applied a tourniquet to the boy's arm before fire crews arrived at the scene and continued life-saving measures. The victim was then taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Illinois. Police said the shooting was a targeted attack, and there was no further threat to the public. Richland man sentenced for killing wife while speeding to pass a truck
A Richland man is headed to prison nearly four years after killing his wife in a dramatic south Richland wreck. Investigators believe Melvin D. Williams Jr., 65, was speeding up a hill on Leslie Road trying to get ahead of a merging truck when he lost control of the Saturn he was driving in June 2021. The car spun into the oncoming lane and crashed, killing his wife Victoria Deberry, 61. He was charged with vehicular homicide seven weeks after the crash and a lengthy hospital stay. On Tuesday, Williams entered an Alford plea to the charge. The plea means he doesn't admit to the crime, but believed the prosecutors could prove the charge if it went to trial. Williams faced between a year and three months and a year and eight months in prison.. Both sides agreed to a maximum sentence, and Judge Norma Rodriguez followed the recommendation. Deberry's family also asked for the judge to impose the maximum sentence, according to statements read into the record. William's attorney Deric Orr said his client took responsibility for his role, but the other driver remained free. 'Ultimately, while we firmly believe that (the other driver's) actions did contribute to Ms. Deberry's death, the prosecutor maintains the sole ability to charge someone with a crime. We are happy that Mr. Williams was able to put this behind him,' Orr told the Tri-City Herald. Williams told investigators that he was heading south on Leslie Road from Columbia Park Trail when he first tried to pass a Ford pickup. The two-lane section of Leslie Road goes uphill before narrowing from two lanes to one. Vehicles in the right lane have the right of way, while drivers in the left were instructed to 'merge right' with painted arrows on the road and signs. The pickup moved into the left lane in front of his Saturn and Williams moved into the right, he told investigators. The data recorder in the car showed he was going 76 mph with the gas pedal pushed nearly to the floor when the Saturn struck the right curb, court documents said. The posted speed limit was 40 mph. When he lost control, the car slid sideways in front of the truck. It kept skidding across the road and into oncoming traffic. It slammed into an SUV heading north. Deberry was killed in the crash and Williams was left in the hospital for weeks
