Yahoo2 days ago

Someone in California has won the most recent Powerball jackpot, which is worth $204.5 million, according to lottery officials.
The jackpot hit during the drawing that was held on Saturday, May 31. The jackpot has since been reset to $20 million.
According to Powerball officials, the winner will have the choice between receiving an annuitized payment of $204.5 million or taking one large payout of $91.6 million. Both of those figures are before taxes.
The winning ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven on Woodman Avenue in Arleta, California, which is just outside of Los Angeles.
This is the fourth Powerball jackpot to hit this year. The last grand prize winner hit their numbers on April 26. That winner, an individual from Kentucky, won $167.3 million.
An Oregon Powerball player was the first to win the big prize this year, scoring a hefty $328.5 million jackpot on January 18.
The largest prize in 2025, however, was won on March 29 when a buyer matched all six Powerball numbers and won $527 million.
The numbers for the most recent jackpot on Saturday were 1, 29, 37, 56, 68, with the Powerball number 13.
Two other people — one from Florida and one from New Hampshire — won the $2 million Match 5 + Power Play prize.
The next Powerball drawing will take place on Monday, June 2, just after 11pm EST.

Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff's last call to daughter came shortly before her death

This story discusses suicide. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, please contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Details on Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff's sudden death have been revealed. According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner's report obtained by Fox News Digital, Bach-Hasselhoff died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on March 5. The report also stated that the benzodiazepines clonazepam and 7-aminoclonazepam were in her system at the time of her death. According to the Mayo Clinic, clonazepam and 7-aminoclonazepam can be used to treat panic disorders. Bach-Hasselhoff's final words were revealed in the medical examiner's report. At approximately 7:45 am on March 5, Bach-Hasselhoff called her daughter and said that she "loved her very much." After the call, her daughter called and texted her throughout the day and "never" received a response, the report stated. Bach-Hasselhoff's daughter went to her mother's house to perform a wellness check and found her "unresponsive" on her bed. The report alleges that Bach-Hasselhoff "mentioned suicide last year, but there were never any attempts" and that she was "depressed." The report did not name Bach-Hasselhoff's daughter. Pamela and her ex-husband, David Hasselhoff, met on the set of "Knight Rider" and married in 1989. They welcomed their two daughters, Taylor and Hayley, in 1990 and 1992 and divorced in 2006. "Our family is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Pamela Hasselhoff," David shared on social media at the time of Pamela's death. "We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult period but kindly request privacy as we grieve and navigate through this challenging time." Pamela and David appeared alongside each other in "Baywatch" for 10 seasons. She also landed roles in "The Young and the Restless," "The Fall Guy" and "Sirens." Pamela celebrated her family in the last post she shared on Instagram. "As we step into 2025, my heart is full of gratitude, especially for my precious grandbaby, London," the actress wrote on New Year's Eve. "Watching her grow and seeing her smile light up my world is truly the greatest blessing. My wish for all of you this year is health, happiness, and an abundance of love. May 2025 be filled with beautiful moments, laughter, and all the blessings your hearts can hold." "Here's to a year of making cherished memories, spreading joy, and embracing every precious moment!" After a 16-year marriage, David filed for divorce from Pamela, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalized in 2006, and the court awarded joint custody of their daughters. "I've always loved him and always will, and have love and compassion for him," Pamela told The Associated Press at the time. "It's a very, very sad day, but a day to move on."

Skechers Shareholder Sues Footwear Maker for Details on $9.4 Billion 3G Buyout

A Skechers USA shareholder has sued the footwear maker for more details about its $9.4 billion buyout by private equity firm 3G Capital, saying the decision by Skechers' founder and controlling shareholder to sell raises 'red flags.' According to a complaint filed on Thursday in Los Angeles federal court, founder Robert Greenberg and his family, who hold about 60% of Skechers' voting power, appear to have 'controlled the sales process to a single bidder and deprived the minority stockholders of any legitimate bidding process.' Florida-based Key West Police Officers & Firefighters Retirement Plan said the buyout should not close until Skechers makes required disclosures with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to help shareholders decide if the terms are fair. The complaint cited a Reuters article in which Needham analyst Tom Nikic called the buyout 'very surprising' because Skechers was considered a family business, and sources said the Greenbergs eschewed an auction because of their long ties to 3G. Skechers spokeswoman Jennifer Clay declined to comment on Friday, saying the Manhattan Beach, California-based company does not discuss pending litigation. The vast majority of large US corporate mergers are challenged in court. Lawsuits seeking greater disclosures often end with defendants paying legal fees to plaintiffs' lawyers, and plaintiffs recovering nominal payouts or nothing. According to a regulatory filing, Greenberg, 85, could collect more than $1 billion from the buyout, which is scheduled to close in the third quarter. The buyout values Skechers at $63 per share in cash, 20 percent below its 52-week high of $78.82 set on January 30. Like other footwear makers including Nike, Skechers faces pressure from US President Donald Trump's tariffs. Many Skechers' products come from China, and the company withdrew its full-year financial guidance in April. Brazil-based 3G is known for stringent cost-cutting, including at such companies as Anheuser-Busch InBev and Kraft Heinz. The case is Key West Police Officers & Firefighters Retirement Plan v Skechers USA Inc et al, US District Court, Central District of California, No. 25-04863. Mike Flanagan Is Working Closely with Stephen King on THE DARK TOWER TV Adaptation: "I'm Not Gonna Let Him Down" — GeekTyrant

Mike Flanagan is still hard at work developing his adaptation of Stephen King's magnum opus The Dark Tower series, and according to the filmmaker, it's just taking time because, well… it's that big. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Flanagan offered a candid update when asked about the long-gestating project: 'It's not that I've put it down. It's just that the thing is so big, it's like building an oil tanker. We've been moving it forward this whole time. 'It's just, that's how big it is. It's constantly in the works, and you better believe as often as you guys may want to ask about it, Stephen King is asking me about it more, and I'm not gonna let him down.' Flanagan is 100% committed to the project and he's collaborating directly with the author himself. King even confirmed earlier this year that he's actively writing material for the series: 'All I can say is, it's happening. I am writing stuff now, and I think that's all I want to say, because the next thing you know, I'll stir up a bunch of stuff I don't necessarily want to stir up yet. I'm in process right now, and to say too much feels like a jinx.' While Flanagan's Dark Tower hasn't landed at a streamer or officially gone into production yet, it is fully outlined. The plan is to make it a five-season series that gives the epic eight-book saga the breathing room it needs. If there's anyone who will be able to do it right, it's Flanagan. His track record with King's work speaks for itself: Gerald's Game , Doctor Sleep , and the upcoming The Life of Chuck , which hits theaters June 6. All these projects have all shown he gets the tone, the heart, and the horror that comes with adapting King's work. He's also developing a new take on Carrie . When Flanagan first announced the project, he said that the pilot script is 'one of my favorite things I've ever gotten to work on.' He shared at the time: 'I wrote a pilot, we view it as a as a series that's going at least five seasons. And having lived with this project as long as I have, I have an enormous amount of it worked out in my brain. 'But I have a pilot script I'm thrilled with and a very detailed outline for the first season and a broader outline for the subsequent seasons. 'I think eventually, if we're able to get it going, there are some other writers I want to fold into that process whom I've worked with before; I think they would be really fabulous for a very small, intimate writers room where we can continue to break it. 'I'll tell you, more than half of my life, I've closed my eyes and been able to watch a lot of this play out, I've dreamed about this. 'That first shot which comes right off at the first incredible sentence of the first book, The Gunslinger, I've had that image just rattling around in my head since I was an undergrad. It's going to have to get out of there eventually, I really need to get it out of my head. 'The pilot script is one of my favorite things I've ever gotten to work on. It's been surreal working on that. So we've been floored and grateful that Stephen King trusts us with such an undertaking, something so precious to him, and we hope to find the right partners to realize it.' The director has been adamant that his adaptation will stick as close to the source material as possible. Back in 2022, Flanagan said: 'It would look like the books. The way not to do The Dark Tower is to try to turn it into something else, to try to make it Star Wars or make it Lord of the Rings . 'It is what it is, what it is is perfect. It's just as exciting as all of those things and just as immersive. It's a story about a tiny group of people, all the odds in the whole world are against them, and they come together. As long as it's that, it'll be fine and there won't be a dry eye in the house.' I cant wait to see what he does with this story!
