You haven't made many sequels in your career. What made you want to carry on the story of The Accountant?
We didn't know for sure that we were going to come back and do another one, but then the response to the first one was just so incredibly positive that it made sense. People would come up to me and say how they streamed the first one and loved it, and when are we going to get The Accountant 2? Christian Wolff is a character I was interested to come back to, and I was especially excited to explore more of this world with my director Gavin O'Connor and writer Bill Dubuque. They really came up with an idea for a sequel. So, we were all very happy to come back.
A movie about an accountant is not what many would expect to be so thrilling. For those who are perhaps still catching up with his adventures, what kind of accountant is Christian Wolff?
Christian Wolff is not your average accountant; that's fair to say. His gift is solving puzzles, complex problems and tracking down financial deception. He is super-smart when it comes to numbers, not so much with people and relationships. He also happens to be expertly trained, both as a money launderer and a deadly weapon. But in terms of managing his personal relationships, he has a hard time coping. He is trying to figure out how to have a relationship with a woman, how to be a good date and how to reconnect with his brother. That is really the heart of the character beyond what he does for a living and just what a deadly weapon he is.

Ben Affleck's compelling sequel to his 2016 action-thriller movie The Accountant is all set to hit Amazon Prime Video. The Accountant 2 was released in theatres on April 25, 2025, bringing back Affleck in his titular of a gifted accountant who undertakes a dangerous mission involving a past acquaintance in this gripping thriller. The streaming service announced the news via a social media post on Monday (June 2). The film will hit the OTT platform on Thursday (June 5). This sequel picks on the story of Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck), a highly skilled CPA suffering from autism who lives an undercover life as a forensic accountant for criminal organizations. Given his knack for solving complex problems, Wolff is pulled into a dangerous spiral when an old acquaintance who has been murdered leaves behind a note asking the receiver to 'find the accountant'. He is affected by the complexity of the case and reaches out to his estranged brother Brax (Jon Bernthal). What started as a simple murder mystery soon gets the pair and US Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) involved in a lethal underground network of killers who are out for the blood of anyone who tries to get in their way. The film grossed over $100 million worldwide in theatres and won the Headliner Audience Award when it premiered at the SXSW festival. Ben Affleck Says Line Dancing Was Harder Than Action In The Accountant 2
After the success of The Accountant in 2016, it was natural to bring the team back for a new story. In the sequel, Ben Affleck returns as Christian Wolff, an autistic accountant who secretly handles money for dangerous criminals. This time, the film also adds humour by showing Christian trying to find love, which is not easy for him. In one memorable scene, he uses math skills to learn line dancing at a bar. Even though he struggles with social skills, Christian figures out the dance steps and manages to connect with someone special. Speaking with Times Now, Ben explained, 'That was one of the fun things about this thing, the idea that he wants to have a relationship with a woman, he's trying to figure out how to put yourself out there. He's not comfortable extending himself, he doesn't really know how to flirt exactly. And what he does is kind of a lovely thing, which is he uses something that he's comfortable with, which in that case is the ability to recognise and identify the pattern of line dancing, and it's the perfect way that he's comfortable to stand next to this woman who he's attracted to and wants to connect with. And it required a lot of me. I probably am not going to get a lot more demands from my line dancing work."
