India worked closely with the Iranian government to secure the release of three Indians who were allegedly abducted by a Pakistani gang from the southern part of Tehran last month.The release of the missing Indians was announced by the Iranian embassy in Delhi late Tuesday night, following hectic diplomatic engagements between India and Iran on the issue.It was suspected that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) would have showcased the kidnapped Indians as "spies" working in Pakistan, said people familiar with the matter.The families of the three Indians, who went missing in Iran, had received ransom calls from Pakistani phone numbers, raising suspicion of ISI's hand in the incident, ET had reported last week.The three Indians, who went missing in Iran on May 1 after landing in Tehran, were identified as Hushanpreet Singh, from Punjab's Sangrur district, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar and Amritpal Singh, from Hoshiarpur district.An agent in Punjab had promised the three men to send them to Australia via the Dubai-Iran route. The Indian government is also probing whether the agent had any links with the Pakistan government, according to the people. The agent from Hoshiarpur who sent the men to Iran is reportedly missing."Family members of 3 Indian citizens have informed the Embassy of India that their relatives are missing after having travelled to Iran. The Embassy has strongly taken up this matter with the Iranian authorities, and requested that the missing Indians should be urgently traced and their safety should be ensured," the Indian Embassy in Iran had recently said in a statement.Meanwhile, Iran urged Indians to apply caution while travelling to other countries and not fall prey to illegal agencies. This is the second case of Indians who went missing in Iran over the past one year.

INS Rana, INS Jyoti arrive in Colombo for ‘SLINEX-25'
Visakhapatnam: Indian Naval Ships INS Rana, a guided missile destroyer, and INS Jyoti, a fleet tanker, arrived in Colombo to take part in the 12th edition of Sri Lanka India Naval Exercise (SLINEX-25) scheduled till August 18. The SLINEX maritime exercise exemplifies the deep engagement between India and Sri Lanka, which has strengthened cooperation in the maritime domain in consonance with India's policy of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth across Regions (MAHASAGAR). The exercise is conducted in two phases – the harbour phase in Colombo from August 14 to 16 Aug, followed by the sea phase slated from August 17 to 18. Conceptualised in 2005, 'SLINEX', a bilateral naval exercise has strengthened maritime cooperation between the two nations over two decades. SLINEX aims at enhancing interoperability, maritime cooperation and exchanging best practices while jointly undertaking multi-faceted maritime operations. The previous edition of the SLINEX was conducted in Visakhapatnam last December. SLNS Gajabahu and Vijayabahu (both advanced offshore patrol vessels) will be representing the Sri Lankan Navy, while Special Forces of both the navies will also be featured in the bilateral exercise. During the harbour phase, professional interactions, subject matter expert exchange (SMEE), sharing of best practices, cultural and social exchanges along with yoga sessions and sporting events are included. They aim to further bolster the bonds of friendship and camaraderie between both the navies. Gunnery firing serials, communication protocols, navigation, seamanship evolutions, visit board search and seizure (VBSS) and fuelling at sea form a part of the naval drills during the sea phase.

"If I have to do it, I'll do it. Maybe I won't have to do it," Trump told a US TV channel. He brushed aside questions about similar penalties for China. "Well, he [Putin] lost an oil client, so to speak, which is India, which was doing about 40 per cent of the oil. China, as you know, is doing a lot. And if I did what's called a secondary sanction, or a secondary tariff, it would be very devastating from their standpoint. If I have to do it, I'll do it. Maybe I won't have to do it," Trump told a US TV channel. This might be a relief for India as there had been worries that the country could face fresh penalties if Washington enforced penalty sanctions. A 25-per cent duty on Indian imports took effect on August 7. Trump later announced an additional 25-per cent levy due to Indian oil purchases from Russia, bringing the total tariff burden on Indian goods exported to the United States to 50 per cent. The second round of duties will start from August 27. Trump also brushed aside questions about similar penalties for China, saying, 'I don't have to think about that now.' Before the Trump-Putin talks, US treasury secretary Scott Bessent had cautioned that if the discussions failed, Washington could raise secondary sanctions on India for purchasing Russian oil. Suspected terror operative detained in Dharmavaram
Dharmavaram: In a significant catch, the police in Dharmavaram town of Sri Sathya Sai district on Friday detained a man identified as Sheikh Noor Mohammad on suspicion of having links to Pakistan-based terror groups. The arrest comes close on the heels of authorities in Vizianagaram district foiling a terror plot by arresting a suspected sympathiser and his associate. According to Penukonda DSP Narasingappa, Noor, a cook at a local hotel in Kota Colony, was taken into custody for questioning following intelligence inputs. During a search of his residence subsequently, investigators reportedly seized 16 SIM cards and sent them for forensic examination. The authorities are analysing his social media accounts to uncover any connections to extremist groups. Police seized some 'radical literature' works also from Noor. Sources indicate that Noor is being interrogated about his links to previously arrested suspects and his potential role in supporting or facilitating extremist activities. The police are also examining his local contacts and financial transactions to determine the extent of his circles. 'He (Mohammed) only consumed content and got influenced but didn't execute any act or perhaps didn't get a chance. Training could have radicalised him...,' Dharmavaram in-charge sub-divisional police officer U Narsingappa told a news agency. According to the police, Noor is an Indian citizen and a native of Dharmavaram and his forefathers also belong to the same place, ruling out foreign origin concerns. Officials stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terror sleeper cells and prevent extremist activities in Andhra Pradesh. Further arrests have not been ruled out. Police have booked Sheikh Noor Mohammad under provisions relating to sedition and charged him under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for his alleged ties to terror outfits. Preliminary investigations revealed that Noor was an active member of numerous WhatsApp and Facebook groups associated with terrorist organisations, including Jaish-e-Mohammed. He is accused of posting on his social media handles provocative messages intended to radicalise and lure youth into extremist activities. Authorities confirmed that Noor's actions posed a serious threat to national security. He was to be produced before the Kadiri court later on Saturday. Further investigations are underway to trace Noor's network and determine the full extent of his involvement with terror groups.
