Paul George tells rookie VJ Edgecombe why he's perfect fit for Sixers
Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe is looking to start his NBA career off on the right foot in the 2025-26 season. The No. 3 overall pick in the draft is heading into a terrific situation as he can learn from top talents such as Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey. The Sixers are in a unique position as a team that can contend for a title in the upcoming season despite finishing 24-58 the season before. If this team is healthy--which is, of course, a big if--then they can compete with anybody in the Eastern Conference and move past Round 2 for the first time since 2001. George believes Edgecombe is a great fit for the Sixers as he told his rookie teammate on the latest episode of "Podcast P with Paul George": I think that's what we need. You bring what we need. We need more defenders. We need athleticism. We need flyers. We want to play that fast, up tempo style of basketball. So we need that. You know what I mean? I think you, you're ready. Like, you're play now, ready now basketball, so you're gonna fit right in with what we doing. We got a bunch of talent. You got youth with you, Tyrese, Jared (McCain), Justin (Edwards), Kelly's (Oubre Jr.) still young. So we still got fresh young legs. There's only a couple old (expletives) on the team. So you bring an element that we need, though, and as a rookie, don't come in on some 'I just want to fit in.' Like, bring what you do. Be you. Be you. We gonna adapt to you. Edgecombe showed off what he can do in his brief summer league appearances. He was limited to only two games in the summer league due to a sprained left thumb, but the young guard showed off his electric style of play on both ends of the floor. The Sixers have been in need of a guard who can produce on both ends and he fits that bill. As long as George, Embiid, and Maxey are healthy, Edgecombe and the Sixers can make a splash in the coming season.

Battling a heat wave, the Oklahoma City Thunder were rewarded an extra gift at the end of their NBA championship parade a little over a month ago. Sharing the stage with OKC Mayor David Holt, 21 individuals — including all 18 players — received a holiday. Stretched over a month, Clay Bennett, Sam Presti, Mark Daigneault and all 18 Thunder players were honored for bringing home the Thunder's first NBA championship with a designated holiday that spans from June 30 to July 30. Now that we're on the cusp of flipping the calendar to August, Jalen Williams took to social media with how he hopes Thunder fans celebrate his July 29 holiday. The 24-year-old was the penultimate player on the list. Only Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remains on July 30. Williams said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he hopes Thunder fans throw some food on the grill for him. That's been an ongoing meme throughout the last month as the textbook celebration. It makes sense after all, these sizzling summer days are the perfect environment to spend some time in your backyard and cook up some BBQ. Shortly afterward, Williams posted on his Instagram story that he also hopes Thunder fans jokingly bark at other people today. Over the last couple of years, the 24-year-old has fully embraced the dog moniker. For those unfamiliar, being called a "dog" in sports is a term of endearment. It shows that a player is willing to do anything to secure a win. Considering Williams played the entire playoffs with an injured wrist that eventually required surgery, he fits the description perfectly. Every time he was introduced in the starting lineup, OKC fans would bark in unison. Some even wore dog masks. The 24-year-old would bark back after a big-time play. Over a month since they won the NBA championship, the Thunder continue to enjoy the moment. They've earned it. When you win a ring, you get bragging rights for the rest of the summer. The NBA champions will enter the 2025-26 season as a favorite to be a rare repeat winner.
