Tesla is reportedly just days away from launching its first 10-20 autonomous robotaxis in Austin, Texas.
CEO Elon Musk hopes to scale Tesla's robotaxi fleet significantly between now and the end of 2026.
Musk envisions a different kind of ride-hailing fleet than what's currently offered in the market.

After years of speculation, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) will soon launch its first batch of robotaxis in Austin, Texas, an event that will be closely monitored by the market.
While Tesla at its core is an electric vehicle company, investors have run up the valuation of the stock by betting on future innovations like robotaxis and Tesla's planned rollout of humanoid Optimus robots.
Both could be massive new businesses that generate tons of new revenue. Looking specifically at robotaxis, Musk has grand plans. The billionaire foresees a business model that combines Uber and Airbnb. Let's take a look.
It's still early days, but if everything works out the way Musk hopes, Tesla will be able to launch a large ride-hailing fleet of driverless robotaxis that could potentially compete with the largest players like Uber. While Uber is not specifically building full self-driving (FSD) vehicles, it has positioned itself as a partner for autonomous companies and also forged several partnerships with big players like Waymo.
Some have speculated that Tesla could potentially acquire or partner with Uber, although Musk has shut those rumors down, claiming there is no need. When videos recently surfaced of the first Tesla Model Ys beginning to map Austin, Musk said on X, "... these are unmodified Tesla cars coming straight from the factory, meaning that every Tesla coming out of our factories is capable of unsupervised self-driving!"
The other big aspect that Musk wants to incorporate -- the Airbnb aspect -- is enabling Tesla owners to essentially rent out their vehicles to the fleet. Late last year, Gary Black, the renowned managing partner of The Future Fund, tweeted that Tesla owners could potentially earn $40,000 per year by renting out their Teslas to the robotaxi fleet.
Black assumed that owners would charge $1 for each mile rented to the robotaxi fleet, take home 75% of the earnings, and also assumed 25 trips a day, with each trip six miles long on average. That would certainly be an intriguing proposition.
Musk has also said that he thinks there could be hundreds of thousands of robotaxis in Tesla's fleet and on the road by late next year.
While the prospects of the robotaxi business are undoubtedly exciting, investors should probably temper their expectations for now.
Musk recently announced that Tesla plans to roll out 10-20 robotaxis on June 22. Reports suggest the robotaxis will be driverless, but that there could be a human monitoring the vehicles remotely. Furthermore, the driverless Teslas will be geofenced to start, meaning they will only operate in certain parts of Austin.
Initial media reports suggested the launch would be June 12, but Musk on X attributed the delay to Tesla being "super paranoid about safety." While I am not an expert on FSD, it strikes me as a little concerning that Tesla is pushing out a launch 10 days to once again ensure that everything is safe. I'm not suggesting the vehicles aren't safe, but rather that the launch could be pretty basic to begin with and that Musk's timeline for FSD is likely a bit ambitious. Ramping things up could take more time than expected.
Additionally, as I've written about previously, I believe Tesla's current valuation likely factors in a significant amount of success from robotaxis and Optimus robots. Tesla already trades at 172 forward earnings.
At the end of May, when Tesla traded at 180 times forward earnings, Black also noted on X that in the history of the stock market, no company with a $1 trillion market cap has ever traded at a forward P/E like that. At that kind of multiple, Black said Tesla's market cap should actually be bigger than Apple or Microsoft, which "seems insane," given these companies' massive total addressable markets, huge brands, and incredible cash-flow generating capabilities. This is something for investors to keep in mind.

Women CEOs Reach Record High On 2025 Fortune 500 List, But With Only 2 Black Women Listed Representation Is Still Lacking

For the first time in its 71-year history, the 2025 Fortune 500 list shows that women lead 11% of the largest U.S. companies by revenue. Surpassing the 10% mark is a historic milestone in corporate leadership, Fortune reports. Now 55 women serve as CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, up from 52 in both 2023 and 2024. While this is positive news, only two of the 55 women are Black: Thasunda Brown Duckett, CEO of TIAA, and Toni Townes-Whitley, CEO of Science Applications International Corp. The rise in women-led companies is largely due to internal promotions. Per Fortune, companies such as Freeport-McMoRan, Principal Financial Group, Ulta Beauty, U.S. Bancorp, J.B. Hunt Transport, and Marathon Petroleum Corp. all appointed women from within their executive ranks to the CEO role. Notably: Kathleen Quirk was promoted from CFO to CEO at Freeport-McMoRan. Deanna Strable-Soethout now leads Principal Financial Group. Kecia Steelman was elevated to CEO at Ulta Beauty. Gunjan Kedia is taking the reins at U.S. Bancorp. Shelley Simpson stands at the top of J.B. Hunt Transport. Maryann Mannen now heads Marathon Petroleum Corp. Other significant appointments include Susan Morris at Albertsons and Marina Cheung, who became CEO of S&P Global after serving as president of S&P Global Ratings. Further adding to the record-breaking figures this year is SiriusXM, making its debut on the Fortune 500 for the first time. Even with these advancements, Black women are still glaringly underrepresented in corporate leadership positions. The only Black women on the 2025 list are the same two CEOs, Duckett and Townes-Whitley. The persistent disparity in racial equity highlights more general issues, particularly as some businesses turn away from diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, as AFROTECH previously reported. Jennifer McCollum, president and CEO of Catalyst, a workplace gender equity organization, shines some light on the matter in an article from People of Color in Tech (POCIT). '…We're seeing more companies roll back on DEI initiatives at large companies. If companies reduce their commitment to these policies, there is great risk of progress stalling or even reversing, impacting opportunities for generations of talent to come,' McCollum said. As Fortune reports, the 2025 Fortune 500 businesses generate $19.9 trillion in revenue between them, two-thirds of the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP). The importance of who runs these businesses extends well beyond representation. As more women step into top leadership roles, racial equity and inclusive leadership are equally important. The Fortune 500's future hinges on recommitting to DEI initiatives, developing robust talent pipelines, and elevating diverse leaders. These actions are essential to guarantee that the nation's diversity is accurately reflected in the next generation of corporate leadership. Senate expected to pass crypto bill without addressing Trump's investments

WASHINGTON — The Senate is expected to approve legislation Tuesday that would regulate a form of cryptocurrency known as stablecoins, the first of what is expected to be a wave of crypto legislation from Congress that the industry hopes will bolster its legitimacy and reassure consumers. The fast-moving legislation, which will be sent to the House for potential revisions, comes on the heels of a 2024 campaign cycle where the crypto industry ranked among the top political spenders in the country, underscoring its growing influence in Washington and beyond.

500 Falcon missions! SpaceX sends 26 Starlink satellites to orbit on landmark launch

A Falcon 9 rocket carrying 26 of the company's Starlink internet satellites lifted off from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base on Thursday (June 12) at 9:54 p.m. EDT (6:54 p.m. PDT local time, or 0154 GMT on June 13). The satellites were deployed in low Earth orbit (LEO) about an hour later as planned, the company announced via X. And, with that success, SpaceX's Falcon rocket family hit a very significant round number. Booster 1081 missions Crew-7 | CRS-29 | PACE | Transporter-10 | EarthCARE | NROL-186 | Transporter-13 | 7 Starlink missions "Falcon completes its 500th overall mission! Congratulations to the entire SpaceX team for making the impossible possible on the road to rapidly reusable rockets!" SpaceX said in another X post on Thursday night. And speaking of reusability: The Falcon 9's first stage, serial B1081, came back to Earth on Thursday night, touching down on the droneship "Of Course I Still Love You," which was stationed off the coast of Southern California. It was the 15th launch and landing for the booster, according to SpaceX's web page for the 15-6 mission. SpaceX's record for reusing a Falcon 9 first stage stands at 28 launches. The 26 newly launched spacecraft will soon join more than 7,600 active satellites in the Starlink megaconstellation, the largest satellite network ever assembled. SpaceX, led by billionaire Elon Musk, bills the Starlink service as "high-speed internet around the world" and its satellite megaconstellation does now reach around the planet. A growing number of the spacecraft support direct-to-cell capabilities, enabling texting and internet service from certain smart phones and service providers. With Thursday's launch in the books, SpaceX has now launched 72 Falcon 9 missions in 2025, of which 54 have been in support of the Starlink service. Editor's note: This story was updated at 11:20 a.m. ET on June 13 with the news that this was the 500th completed Falcon mission overall for SpaceX.
