The thing about the Kindle Colorsoft is that it has been highly praised, but many commenters said that there was just one problem: the price. If that was the barrier for you to upgrading, the current offer may tempt you. Available at the U.K. Amazon site, it's currently the only one of the latest Kindle range to see a price cut. The Colorsoft has a lot in common with the Kindle Paperwhite: both have the fastest page turns ever on Kindle, and seven-inch screens (the basic Kindle, for comparison, has a six-inch display), have flush-front designs and are waterproof so you can read in the bath without panicking. The Colorsoft is only available in what's called a Signature Edition, which has 32GB storage. The Paperwhite also comes in a Signature Edition and it matches this 32GB storage. Both Signature Editions have auto-adjusting front light sensors, while the regular Paperwhite needs you to adjust the brightness yourself. Oh, and both Signature Editions are wireless-chargeable. Of course, the other big difference is that the Colorsoft has a color display, with subtle, pastel colors bringing cookery books, travel guides and graphic novels to life. The thing is, the price cut has now brought the price of the Colorsoft much closer to the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition's cost of £189.99 ($256). So, if you were thinking of moving up to the Paperwhite Signature Edition, an extra £30 ($40) gains you color as well. What's more, if you have an old Kindle that works, you can trade it in to save more money, up to 20% extra.

Étienne-Émile Baulieu, Father of the Abortion Pill, Is Dead at 98
Étienne-Émile Baulieu, the French biochemist and physician who was often called the father of the abortion pill — and who was also known for his pioneering studies on the role of steroid hormones in human reproduction and aging — died on Friday at his home in Paris. He was 98. His wife, Simone Harari Baulieu, confirmed the death on social media. Dr. Baulieu's early research focused on hormones, notably DHEA, one of the key hormones in the adrenal gland, as well as groundbreaking work on estrogen and progesterone. But it was his development in the early 1980s of the synthetic steroid RU-486, or mifepristone, that thrust him onto the public stage. Unlike the morning-after pill, which is used after sex to delay ovulation, RU-486 works as a kind of 'anti-hormone,' in Dr. Baulieu's words, by blocking the uterus from receiving progesterone, thereby preventing a fertilized egg from implanting. Taking the drug with misoprostol, a drug that causes uterine contractions, essentially triggers a miscarriage, enabling women to terminate early pregnancies without surgery. The two-dose treatment has been proved safe and highly effective — with a success rate of about 95 percent — and is commonly used in many countries; in the United States, medication abortions accounted for more than 50 percent of all abortions in 2020. After the 2022 Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, demand for the pills surged, and abortion opponents began seeking ways to ban the drug nationwide. Controversy over RU-486 began as soon as its release in the 1980s. Dr. Baulieu developed the drug in partnership with the French drug company Roussel-Uclaf, where he was an independent consultant. The band Imagine Dragons sets social media ablaze after waving Palestinian flag at Milan concert
Rock band Imagine Dragons set social media ablaze after lead singer Dan Reynolds waved a Palestinian flag on stage during a concert in Milan, Italy on Tuesday. Video clips of Reynolds picking up a Palestinian flag and waving it before draping it across his shoulders at the concert's end racked up millions of views and drew mixed reactions on social media. The band's frontman also kissed the flag and threw it back into the crowd. Palestinians on social media praised the band for its support. One post that reached over one million views applauded the "powerful gesture." "Very nice to see more people showing support," another pro-Palestinian account posted. Liberals also applauded the band for appearing to take a political stand while they poked fun at the band over their dislike of their music. "Omg Radiohead has now been lapped by IMAGINE DRAGONS?!?" Stand-up comedian Matt Lieb wrote in a post that reached over two million views. Lieb was referring to the band Radiohead telling off an anti-Israel heckler during a show last October. "Imagine Dragons are now on the very short list of respectable celebs," another person praised. But Jewish fans of the band and pro-Israel commentators expressed their disappointment and outrage. "It looks like the band 'Imagine Dragons' supports terrorism," ACT for America Chairman Brigitte Gabriel wrote. The band is outspoken about its support for the LGBTQ community and Reynolds waved "Progress Pride" flags at previous shows. During the Milan concert, Reynolds also waved a Ukrainian flag. Representatives of Imagine Dragons did not immediately return a request for comment. The band faced blowback for playing in Israel in August 2023, before the October 7 Hamas terror attacks. During a July 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Reynolds said he didn't have any regrets about playing shows in Israel and in Azerbaijan. "I don't believe in depriving our fans who want to see us play because of the acts of their leaders and their governments. I think that's a really slippery slope. I think the second you start to do that, there's corrupt leaders and warmongers all over the world, and where do you draw the line?" Reynolds told the outlet.
