Search for leopard intensified after boy killed in Barwani

Barwani: Amidst the silence prevailing after the incident of the killing of an 8-year-old boy by a leopard in the Rajpur subdivision of Barwani district, officials are going all out in their search to prevent any more incidents.
Barwani divisional forest officer Ashish Bansod told TOI that various teams from the forest department have been deployed to search for the big cat around the clock. He said that old and new pugmarks of the leopards have been found in the high maize fields connected to the spot, which shows that big cats were roaming here for a few days.
He mentioned that four cages and five camera traps have been installed at various locations, and if required, the search will also be conducted with drone cameras.
A rescue team has also been sent for necessary action. After the leopard is traced, another rescue team will be called from Indore. Apart from this, instructions have been given to children not to go out and villagers not to go alone at night.
On Monday, the villagers created a ruckus outside the post-mortem room of the Community Health Centre of Rajpur. They described the compensation of Rs 8 lakh as insufficient for the loss and demanded it be increased to Rs 1 crore.

District collector Kajal Jawla clarified that the compensation amount was provided after the six deaths in Limbai of Rajpur subdivision in May and June, and in this case too, immediate steps are being taken and the amount is being given. She said that various departments are on their toes and the search for the big cat is ongoing. She mentioned that the efficacy report of the anti-rabies vaccines sent for examination after the deaths of six persons is still awaited, and a reminder has been sent in this regard.
BJP MLA from Pansemal in Barwani district, Shyam Barde, reached Indalpur village, consoled the bereaved family, and assured them of necessary action. TNN
