Search for leopard intensified after boy killed in Barwani

Time of India15 hours ago
Barwani: Amidst the silence prevailing after the incident of the killing of an 8-year-old boy by a leopard in the Rajpur subdivision of Barwani district, officials are going all out in their search to prevent any more incidents.
Barwani divisional forest officer Ashish Bansod told TOI that various teams from the forest department have been deployed to search for the big cat around the clock. He said that old and new pugmarks of the leopards have been found in the high maize fields connected to the spot, which shows that big cats were roaming here for a few days.
He mentioned that four cages and five camera traps have been installed at various locations, and if required, the search will also be conducted with drone cameras.
A rescue team has also been sent for necessary action. After the leopard is traced, another rescue team will be called from Indore. Apart from this, instructions have been given to children not to go out and villagers not to go alone at night.
On Monday, the villagers created a ruckus outside the post-mortem room of the Community Health Centre of Rajpur. They described the compensation of Rs 8 lakh as insufficient for the loss and demanded it be increased to Rs 1 crore.

Uttar Pradesh: NHAI cracks down on Meerut toll agency following assault on soldier

LUCKNOW: The assault on Army jawan Kapil Singh, 26, at Bhuni toll plaza under the jurisdiction of Sarurpur police station in Meerut has snowballed into a major controversy with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) cancelling the licence of toll collection agency – M/S Dharam Singh Company – and imposing a fine of Rs 20 lakh on it. Meanwhile, the angry protests by local villagers continued on Tuesday. The NHAI, in a statement, condemned the conduct of the toll plaza staff and said it was committed to ensuring safe and seamless travel on national highways. "The NHAI has imposed a penalty of Rs 20 lakh on the toll collecting agency, M/s Dharam Singh, in view of the grave breach of the contract agreement due to the agency's failure to manage the situation and ensure staff discipline," the statement said. "Taking strict action on the incident of misbehaviour with army personnel by toll staff deployed at Bhuni toll plaza on Meerut-Karnal section of NH-709A on August 17, 2025, where an altercation between an Army personnel and toll staff escalated into a fight," the statement said. The incident had taken place at the Bhuni toll plaza in Sarurpur area on Sunday night, when Kapil Singh, a soldier of Rajput Regiment, hailing from Gotka village, was on his way to Delhi Airport. Kapil is posted in Jammu and Kashmir and he was returning to resume duty in Srinagar.

How a missed call rescued teen Delhi girl who left home after fight with father and was forcibly married to a 40-year-old in UP

A 13-year-old girl from Delhi's Bharat Nagar, who had gone missing after a dispute with her father, was rescued nearly a month later in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. Police said the girl had been trafficked and forcibly married to a 40-year-old man in UP using a fake Aadhaar card . Police sources said the family lodged a missing complaint on July 22 when the girl could not be found. A case under Section 137 (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered, a TOI report stated. Missed call led to rescue 'While we were searching for the girl, her family informed us that they had received a missed call from an unknown number. When they called back, a woman answered and said her daughter-in-law might have made the call, then abruptly disconnected it,' a police source said. The number shared with police had one wrong digit. A team reached Mathura, but it turned out to be a false lead. After getting the correct number, police traced the location to Shamli and rescued the girl from a home. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Are Unstoppable: The Most Beautiful and Talented Female Athletes Undo How the girl was trafficked Investigations revealed the girl had left home and taken a bus to a railway station before randomly boarding a train to Meerut. At the station, she met a 20-year-old man who promised help but lured her into a trap. Along with a 55-year-old associate, he took her to Shamli, where she was married off on July 24 to a 40-year-old man in exchange for Rs 15,000-20,000. The traffickers used a fake Aadhaar card to show her age as 19 years. Four days after the forced marriage , the girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by the man. Live Events Fourth accused arrested Delhi Police later arrested a fourth accused identified as Ramanjot Singh, 24, a resident of Ghaziabad and a cyber café owner. Deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Bhisham Singh said Ramanjot created the forged Aadhaar card that showed the girl as an adult. 'The mobile phone used to create and share the fake Aadhaar card was recovered from his possession. He used a PDF editor application to manipulate the document,' the DCP said. Marriage conducted in secrecy Police said the forced marriage took place secretly at a house in Moti Nagar, west Delhi. 'The marriage happened in secret; only the family of the 40-year-old man and the two accused were present. They also recorded videos of the ceremony. The girl was threatened with dire consequences if she objected to the marriage,' an investigator said. Wider probe into trafficking Police are investigating whether the accused were part of a larger human trafficking network. A senior officer said, 'We have found that one of them was frequently visiting remote areas in Odisha. We are now verifying whether girls were lured from there.' Arrests and charges So far, police have arrested four people in connection with the case — the 40-year-old man she was married to, Vikas (20), Ashu (55), and Ramanjot Singh (24). They have been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including human trafficking, exploitation of a trafficked person, and forgery. Sections 6 and 21 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Sections 9 and 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, have also been invoked.
