Ukhand Cabinet approves 10% reservation for former Agniveers in uniformed posts

Dehradun, Aug 13 (PTI) The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Wednesday approved 10 per cent horizontal reservation for direct recruitment in government services to former Agniveers after their return from the army.
The Cabinet gave its approval in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The reservation pertains to uniformed posts of Group 'C' in services under the state government, an official source said.
Former Agniveers will be exempted from the physical efficiency test in the direct recruitment, the source said.
Apart from this, they will also be given relaxation in the maximum age limit. PTI ALM VN VN

Punjab Cabinet gives nod to denotify land pooling policy
The Punjab Cabinet on Thursday gave approval to denotify the land pooling policy, which the AAP government withdrew a few days ago. The decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of council of ministers, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann here. The Cabinet decided to withdraw notification of the department of housing and urban development, Punjab pertaining to Land Pooling Policy 2025 issued on June 4 along with subsequent amendments, said an official spokesperson of the chief minister's office. While the government did not hold any customary briefing after the Cabinet meeting, a source said, 'There were several other ex-post facto approval to be given in the meeting. These agendas were read out one after the other and the nod was given. There was no discussion in the Cabinet.' He was referring to ex-post facto approval for the formation of a Group of Ministers (GoM) to ensure the smooth procurement on Kharif and Rabi crops. This GoM is chaired by the Agriculture Minister and includes the Ministers for Food & Civil Supplies, Transport, and Water Resources as members. Another ex-post facto approval was granted to the formation of a Cabinet Sub-Committee. This committee will review and consider recommendations made by the Committee of Officers regarding Parts II and III of the 6th Punjab Pay Commission Report. A source added, 'Everything was already decided. AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal had already announced his decision to withdraw the policy through a conference call. It was acceptable to all as most of the party leaders were already in sync that the policy was threatening to dim the future prospects of AAP in the state,' said the source. The government had announced its decision to withdraw the policy on Monday, after weeks long protest by farmer organisations and opposition parties against the policy. It was stated that while the AAP was in no mood to withdraw the policy, the party leadership's views changed after attendees in a state-level government function in Sunam, to mark the martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh, started walking out just when Kejriwal started speaking. 'This was shocking for the party. The state that loved Kejriwal just a few years ago, didn't want to listen showed him this side. This was a learning. This was stated that the land pooling policy was the reason behind this negativity.' The Punjab Cabinet had approved the land pooling policy in June and had then asserted that not a single yard will be forcibly acquired from land owners. The state government had planned to acquire around 65,000 acres of land at many places including around 45,000 acres only in Ludhiana for developing residential and industrial zones. Under the policy, an owner will be given a 1,000 square yard of residential plot and a 200 square yard of commercial plot in fully developed land in lieu of one acre of land, the state government had said.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said Operation Sindoor was a balanced military response that signalled India is no longer bound by traditional boundaries, but is using modern technology, accurate intelligence and smart military strategies to target terrorism. The success of Operation Sindoor will be celebrated at the Independence Day function at Red Fort on Friday. (PTI) 'It was a clear message from India that we are tolerant, but when it comes to the safety of our people and the dignity of our country, we unite and face every challenge boldly. Operation Sindoor is a part of India's new policy, a clear message that no matter how deep the roots of terrorism are, its complete destruction will be ensured,' Singh said in a message to soldiers on the eve of the country's 79th Independence Day. The success of Operation Sindoor will be celebrated at the Independence Day function at Red Fort on Friday, three months after Indian forces hit terror and military targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. A Mi-17 helicopter will fly a flag depicting Operation Sindoor, the invitation cards carry the operation's distinct logo, the view cutter at Gyanpath will also showcase the logo, and the floral decoration will be based on the operation. Operation Sindoor will continue until the goal of complete destruction of terrorism is achieved, Singh said, on a day the government announced gallantry awards for soldiers who took part in the operation. Singh described India's actions during the operation as 'a shining example of a precise and successful military strategy, and a glimpse of a new vision, technological advancements and self-reliance.' India launched the operation in the early hours of May 7 and struck terror and military installations in Pakistan and PoK following the Pahalgam terror strike. Between the launch of the operation in the early hours of May 7 and the ceasefire on May 10 evening, Indian forces bombed nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, killing at least 100 terrorists, and the Indian Air Force struck targets at 13 Pakistani airbases and military installations. India, Singh said, successfully utilised cutting-edge apparatus such as drones, layered air defence, electronic warfare and network-centric operations, and proved that it is no longer dependent on foreign technology. The operation has taken India's military self-reliance to a greater height, he said. Talking about the balanced strategy of Operation Sindoor, Singh said within a few minutes (on May 7), nine terror training camps, including the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, were destroyed by precise missile attacks, and no civilian areas and Pakistani military establishments were targeted. The Indian armed forces, he said, neither crossed the Line of Control nor violated the international border, yet managed to deliver a crushing blow to the terror infrastructure hidden inside the enemy's territory. Singh added that with Operation Sindoor, the armed forces not only avenged the barbaric terror attack in Pahalgam, but also the strikes on Parliament House, in Mumbai and on Amarnath pilgrims in the past.

Israeli PM Netanyahu outlines 5 principles for ending Gaza war
Tel Aviv, Aug 14 (UNI) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today outlined five principles set by the Cabinet for ending the Gaza war and said their implementation will ensure Israel's security and victory in the war. In a statement, Netanyahu said: "One week ago, I convened the Security Cabinet and we determined five principles for the conclusion of the war: 1. Hamas is to be disarmed. 2. All hostages - the living and the deceased - are to be returned. We will not give up on a single one. 3. The Strip is to be demilitarized. Not only must Hamas be disarmed, but it must be ensured that weapons will be neither produced in the Strip nor smuggled into the Strip. 4. There will be Israeli security control in the Gaza Strip, including the security perimeter. 5. There will be an alternative civil administration that is neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority - people who will neither educate their children for terrorism, nor finance terrorism, nor dispatch terrorism. "These five principles will ensure the security of Israel. This is the meaning of the word 'victory'," he said. The Israeli PM's statement comes a day after he said that he believes the prospects for a partial ceasefire and hostage-release deal with Hamas are no longer possible. In an interview with Israeli broadcaster i24, Netanyahu said the possibility of reaching a partial agreement is behind us. He rejected accusations from opposition figures and former senior military officials that he was dragging his feet in the war, saying the goal remains to end the conflict, defeat Hamas and secure the release of all hostages as part of a single final agreement on our terms. On Sunday, Netanyahu said Israel plans to extend its military campaign beyond Gaza City into the last areas outside its control, where most of the enclave's roughly two million residents have taken refuge amid worsening humanitarian conditions.
