Yahoo20 hours ago
With pre-season training already underway for both the senior men's and women's teams at Northallerton Rugby Union Football Club , it's a good moment to look back on what club members have been up to over the summer break.
A highlight was the annual NRUFC touch rugby tournament, which now spans six weeks and includes 15 teams from across North Yorkshire.
The tournament, which is a staple in the local sporting calendar, saw increased participation this year, providing an opportunity for younger players to develop alongside social teams.

The more serious contenders battled it out for the title, prize pot, and bragging rights.
The Borrowby Broncos retained their title from last year.
Elsewhere, the ladies' team eagerly participated in pre-season training under coach Robbo and entered a team in the Ripon RUFC 7s tournament in early July.
They faced local teams, Ripon and Wensleydale, alongside touring teams, the Viper 7s and Filthy Fifths.
In their opening fixture against the hosts, Ripon Bluebelles, Northallerton ladies secured a 5-43 victory, with tries from Ali O'Brien, Trinity Earnshaw, Amy Parker, and Emma Lawson.

The second match against the experienced Viper 7s saw Northallerton defend against a relentless onslaught of attacking play.
Despite a solo try from O'Brien, the match ended 7-52 in favour of the Vipers.
Their last group game against Wensleydale RUFC was a closely fought contest, with a final score of 7-14 to Northallerton, thanks to a decisive try by Gina Fothergill.
The semi-final against the Filthy Fifths ended with a score of Northallerton 0 – Filthy Fifths 41.
Despite the loss, the team thoroughly enjoyed their day and represented the club with pride.
The team expressed their gratitude to Ripon for hosting and to all the supporters who cheered them on.
The club also participated in cricket over the summer, with NRUFCCC providing a way for club members to stay connected through sociable Thursday evening league games.
With renovations at Brompton Lodge, the team played all of their ten league fixtures away from home for the second season running.
Their performance saw an improvement with a whole game won and several close-run scores.
It is always encouraging to see how many players of a wide range of abilities want to take part and for any readers who would like to get involved in the cricket team next season, please do contact the club on social media or call in during the rugby season to find out more.
Now, the focus is back on the upcoming rugby season, with pre-season training well underway.
The ladies' first XV has been promoted to NC2 and the men's first XV will again compete in Yorkshire 2.
The club is keen to build fitness levels for the upcoming trials.
For any readers looking to join the club either to play rugby, get fitter or simply make new friends, please contact the club on social media to find out more.
Training for the men's teams is as always on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7pm, the ladies train on Wednesday 7pm and the juniors play on Sundays 10am.
All ages and abilities welcome.

Rasmus Hojlund set for omission from Manchester United matchday squad vs Arsenal

Rasmus Hojlund is set to be left out Manchester United's matchday squad for their Premier League opener against Arsenal after being told he faces a challenge to get minutes under Ruben Amorim. Hojlund faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford following the signing of fellow striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to £73.7million. Advertisement The 22-year-old has attracted interest from a range of clubs, including AC Milan and RB Leipzig, but has so far remained adamant that he wishes to stay and fight for his place. He is maintaining commitment and professionalism during this time. Hojlund was an unused substitute in United's final pre-season friendly last weekend against Fiorentina. When asked whether Hojlund was still part of his plans at a pre-match press conference on Friday, United head coach Amorim was non-committal. 'He's one more option, we will see. We are focused on this game and Rasmus is still our player,' Amorim said. Amorim also confirmed Joshua Zirkzee, who has been working his way back to fitness in pre-season, is now ready to return. United's preference is a permanent sale for Hojlund, although there is an acceptance that they will likely have to accept an amount lower than his book value of around £45m. United are also open to a loan arrangement. It remains to be seen whether Hojlund's plans change after he insisted that he would stay and compete to win his place back if a new striker was to join. 'I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens,' he said on United's pre-season tour of the United States. 'Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me. I'm more than ready. I'm feeling sharp so I'm welcoming everything that comes.' Hojlund joined United in an initial €75m deal in 2023, with a further €10m in add-ons, and has since scored 26 goals in 95 appearances. The Denmark international only scored ten goals in all competitions last season, including just four in the Premier League, and endured a a 21-match goalless streak between mid-December and mid-March. Rico Lewis keen to stay at ‘dream club' Manchester City

Rico Lewis is determined fight for his place with a Manchester City side he senses have 'additional hunger' to regain the Premier League crown this season. The England international produced the assist for the opening goal as City began their quest for a seventh title in nine years by thrashing Wolves 4-0 at Molineux on Saturday. That came amid rumours linking the 20-year-old with a move to Nottingham Forest but, while manager Pep Guardiola has said more than once he would like to trim his squad, Lewis does not intend to depart. The City academy graduate said: 'I've never, ever seen myself at a different club. I've always wanted to play for City. 'It's my dream club, and like you see (here), when I'm playing with the kind of players that I'm playing with, it brings out the best in me, so I'm so happy. 'Everyone wants assurance and security but, at the end of the day, it's on me to perform. It's on me to take the chances. After that, I can't blame myself. 'If I take my own chances, I do it. If I don't, then I have to work and get better.' After losing the title last season after four successive victories, City started the new campaign with a strong statement. Erling Haaland scored either side of a Tijjani Reijnders strike and substitute Rayan Cherki added a fourth late on. Reijnders also had a hand in both Haaland goals in a highly impressive Premier League debut. Lewis said: 'As much as we can we forget about last season, but obviously it's in the back of our minds and we could say it's fuelling the fire for us. 'There's always hunger but I think there could be additional hunger now that it's not our crown to defend. 'There's something that we're chasing. We're so focused on this season. We've already had the Club World Cup so we feel much stronger, together as a team, and I think that's the main thing, we feel like a unit.' James Trafford made a confident debut in the City goal after number one Ederson withdrew due to illness. He was beaten in the first half but Marshall Munetsi was clearly offside, while Wolves also went close when Jorgen Strand Larsen shot narrowly wide. Manager Vitor Pereira admitted the club need to bring in reinforcements before the transfer deadline. The Portuguese, who engineered an escape from relegation last season, said: 'Of course, we need more options to be stronger, more options with quality to improve our squad. 'Before the next game will be difficult but my expectation is that the club can bring three, four players with quality before the end of the market. 'This league is very tough and we need to add more quality.'
