Wisconsin basketball hosts transfer forward, WCC Freshman of the Year on official visit
Wisconsin basketball hosted Portland transfer forward Austin Rapp on an official visit on Monday, according to his Instagram.
The 6-foot, 10-inch forward is in the portal after averaging 33 minutes, 13.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks on 39.7% shooting and a West Coast Conference-best 35.2% from 3 during an excellent freshman season. Those outputs earned him the WCC Freshman of the Year award and a spot on the freshman all-conference team.
The sharpshooter, who has three years of eligibility remaining, would provide a seamless replacement for veteran center Steven Crowl, who graduated after the 2024-25 campaign. The Badgers need both starting talent and depth in the frontcourt. A leading duo of Nolan Winter and Rapp, with Xavier Amos and another transfer off the bench, would mark the start of an impressive transfer cycle for Greg Gard and his staff.
Rapp does not currently carry a transfer ranking or projection. Given his accolades in just one year at the college level, Wisconsin is likely to have significant competition to land his commitment.
Wisconsin is looking to replace 44.7 combined minutes, 13.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and one block from veteran forwards Crowl and Carter Gilmore. Despite their position, the two combined for 53 3-point makes on 139 attempts (38%). That versatility and multi-level scoring ability played a major role in Wisconsin's breakthrough year on the offensive end of the court.
Rapp's fit in the lineup is clear: the forward made 83 of 236 3-point attempts (35.2%) last season. Each of those numbers led the entire WCC, independent of position.

On Saturday, North Carolina secured a commitment from Georgia State transfer Colin Hynek, who started 105 of the 132 games he played in Atlanta. Like Stevenson, Hynek is also a power threat at the plate, mashing 33 home runs and driving in 91 runs across thre seasons. By coming to Chapel Hill, Hynek will have a significantly better shot at competing for a championship. Georgia State just completed a 26-30 campaign and hasn't made the NCAA Tournament since 2009, while UNC is playing in the Super Regional round for a second-consecutive season.
