Rick Carlisle on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 'You can mark down 34 points'
Jun 8, 2025; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA; Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle looks on during the fourth quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder of game two of the 2025 NBA Finals at Paycom Center. Mandatory Credit: Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images Only seeing him twice a year in the regular season, Rick Carlisle has quickly grown accustomed to the frustrations teams face against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He's an unsolvable Rubik's Cube. Take away one spot, he'll slither his way to another. As the Oklahoma City Thunder evened the 2025 NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers at 1-1 apiece, Carlisle said Gilgeous-Alexander belongs in a special group of players who are unguardable. Three straight 30-point campaigns and an MVP trophy will earn you that type of respect. Advertisement Gilgeous-Alexander is off to a historic start in his NBA Finals experience. His 72 points scored through two games are the most anybody has put up in their NBA Finals debut. He passed Allen Iverson's 71 points for the all-time record. "But you know, Shai, you can mark down 34 points before they even get on the plane tomorrow, you know, for the next game. The guy's going to score," Carlisle said. "We've got to find ways to make it as tough as possible on him." The Pacers don't have the personnel to slow down Gilgeous-Alexander. Nobody does, really. The good news for Indiana is that it did its job with a road split to start the series. Game 1 will likely need to be replicated back home if the Pacers want to pull off the all-time upset. Gilgeous-Alexander will get his points, but if the rest of the Thunder struggle, it turns into a math advantage. The Pacers just have to hang around in the final moments. They can rely on Tyrese Haliburton's late-game heroics to escape with a thrilling win. Advertisement Meanwhile, OKC's game plan to regain homecourt advantage will need to be similar to Game 2. Just stomp them out on the scoreboard with avalanche runs. Continuously stiff-arm the Pacers on the scoreboard and keep them away with double-digit leads. NBA rumors: Hawks join Pistons as Myles Turner free agency suitor
The post NBA rumors: Hawks join Pistons as Myles Turner free agency suitor appeared first on ClutchPoints. Throughout these playoffs, Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner has become one of the prominent faces in the NBA. The Pacers have made a run all the way to the NBA Finals, tearing through the Eastern Conference on their way to a matchup against the Thunder. Advertisement Turner and the Pacers split the first two games of the finals in Oklahoma City, winning Game 1 of the series at the buzzer after a huge comeback before dropping Game 2 in a blowout on Sunday night. After the series is over, no matter which way it goes, Turner has plenty to think about. He will be a free agent this summer, and many teams will be vying for his services. The Detroit Pistons are expected to be in the mix for Turner, and the Atlanta Hawks are likely to join them according to Grant Afseth of RG Media. 'The Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks are among the teams interested in Turner ahead of free agency, sources tell RG, as both teams look to bolster their frontcourts,' Afseth wrote. It comes as no surprise that teams all over the league are closely monitoring Turner's situation. The 10-year veteran is a valuable piece on both ends and would add multiple dimensions to both the Hawks and the Pistons. His ability to protect the rim is something that both teams are lacking somewhat, and his proclivity to space the floor from the center position was foreign to both of those teams this season. Advertisement Of course, the Pacers will also be trying very hard to keep Turner around. The Texas product has seemingly been in trade rumors for the majority of his career, but the Pacers have continued to hold onto him and see him as a valuable piece to their core. Turner talked after the Eastern Conference Finals about how much he loves being in Indiana and how much Indianapolis means to him, so it will certainly take one heck of an offer to pry him away in free agency. While the Pistons and Hawks will give it their best shot, the Pacers should still be viewed as the front runner to retain the veteran big man. Indiana Pacers get free agency update
Indiana Pacers get free agency update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Pacers, despite having their fair share of team success over the last several years, are not known as big spenders. Advertisement However, with free agency on the horizon and a championship-caliber roster already in town, the Pacers should be willing to throw more money at marquee free agents than usual. Starting center and defensive anchor Myles Turner will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and after playing a massive role in Indiana's success, he is expected to be one of the most coveted free agents this summer. In order to keep him, the Pacers might have to slip above the luxury tax, which they have historically been reluctant to do. However, with their first NBA Finals appearance in 25 years, they should be willing to make an exception for the longest-tenured player on the roster. "After reaching the NBA Finals, Indiana now appears primed to enter the tax for the first time in nearly two decades as it looks to retain core pieces and solidify its roster for another deep postseason push," league insider Grant Anfseth predicted. Advertisement Anfseth also listed the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks as realistic landing spots for Turner in free agency, although with the Pacers positioned to enter next season as Finals favorites, shelling out more cash than usual to keep Turner should (and will) be a priority. While the Pistons and Hawks are up-and-coming teams, the Pacers have already made the Finals, and if all three teams offer the same amount of money, then Indiana has a clear advantage when it comes to luring Turner back. Other key players like Aaron Nesmith, Andrew Nembhard, Pascal Siakam, Obi Toppin, and Tyrese Haliburton are all under contract for the next few seasons.
