Fantasy Baseball 2-Start Pitcher Rankings: Will Warren, Cade Horton lead list of top streamers for this week
Two-Start Pitchers (listed in order of preference)
Cade Horton, Cubs, 41% (@ TOR, vs. PIT): Horton has found his groove in the majors, tossing 22.2 scoreless innings while allowing just 17 baserunners in his past four starts. Fantasy managers cannot ignore this excellent combination of recent success and substantial upside from someone who was a notable prospect, especially when he is heading into a two-start week that includes a weekend matchup with the lowest-scoring team in baseball.
Will Warren, Yankees, 46% (vs. MIN, @ STL): Warren has had a couple of poor starts this summer but deserves credit for allowing two or fewer runs in seven of his past nine starts. His premium strikeout skills (10.4 K/9 rate) make him especially appealing in points leagues, but he is worth the risk in roto formats as well. It helps that he will face a depleted Twins squad and a mediocre Cardinals offense.
Chris Paddack, Tigers, 25% (@ CWS, @ MIN): Paddack has had one good start and one bad start for the Tigers, which mostly corresponds to his inconsistent pattern during his tenure with the Twins. I'll admit that the 29-year-old is a risky option, but he also has plenty of upside for a two-start week with favorable matchups. For those who are chasing wins, Paddack is a risk worth taking.
Bailey Falter, Royals, 12% (vs. WSH, vs. CWS): Falter did not fare well in his initial start with the Royals but still deserves credit for posting solid results (3.73 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) in 22 starts with the Pirates. His appeal is similar to that of Paddack, as he will make two home starts against teams who sit last in their respective divisions. He has an excellent chance to pick up a win, which is fantasy gold at this time of year.

José Soriano, Angels, 36% (vs. LAD, @ ATH): There is an easy way to decide on Soriano in roto leagues this week — how much do you care about your WHIP? The righty induces so many grounders that he should log a respectable ERA. And the ability to keep the ball on the ground makes him a good fit at the Athletics' hitter-friendly park. But plenty of those grounders sneak through the infield, which means that Soriano's 1.40 WHIP is likely here to stay.
Cade Cavalli, Nationals, 14% (@KC, vs. PHI): It has been a long road back to the majors for Cavalli, who threw 4.1 scoreless innings in his first start since 2022. The 26-year-old is still regarded as a solid prospect, and has a favorable matchup this week against a Royals offense that ranks 29th in runs scored. I can see the case for chasing Cavalli's upside over adding some of the boring veterans on this list.
Yu Darvish, Padres, 40% (@SF, @LAD): Darvish has been inconsistent since returning from the injured list on July 7. He seemed to turn a corner when he tossed seven scoreless innings on July 30, but took a step back when he allowed three runs over four frames in Arizona last time out. He is backed by a solid lineup and dominant bullpen, but his matchups this week are fairly difficult. He is best left for those in 15-team leagues.
Miles Mikolas, Cardinals, 9% (vs. COL, vs. NYY): Adding Mikolas would be the ultimate case of chasing a win in deep leagues. The veteran is not an effective starter, as is evidenced by his 5.11 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. But he could pick up a victory against the 30-87 Rockies at the outset of the week.
Dean Kremer, Orioles, 22% (vs. SEA, @HOU): Kremer enjoyed an effective stretch during late June and most of July before taking a step backward by allowing 12 runs over 17 innings in his past three starts. The right-hander has little upside for a two-start week that includes matchups with a pair of potential postseason teams, which means that his value is mostly limited to roto managers who could use 8-10 strikeouts.

Hitters with favorable matchups this week
Lourdes Gurriel Jr., D-backs, 44%: Arizona has arguably the best offensive schedule this week, as four of their seven games will be played in Colorado. Gurriel has become the team's cleanup hitter, which makes him the top option to add, in hopes that he will often drive in the likes of Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte. In deeper leagues, Tyler Locklear (5%) and Alek Thomas (1%) are solid streamers as well.
Mickey Moniak, Rockies, 18%: The Rockies are another team with seven games this week, and their hitters will enjoy playing four of them at home. They could also fare well at the start of the week against a Cardinals staff that lacks elite arms. Five of the contests will come against righties, which makes the lefty-hitting Moniak a great option. Jordan Beck (37%), Tyler Freeman (8%) and Warming Bernabel (29%) are good options as well.
Colt Keith, Tigers, 18%: The Tigers will face seven unimposing right-handed starters this week. The lefty-hitting Keith should bat leadoff in all seven games, which could lead to plenty of hits and runs scored.

LA 2028 to sell venue name rights in Olympic first
Organizers of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics will sell naming rights for some competition venues to "unlock an additional revenue stream" in a move that breaks with Games tradition of forbidding brand names on stadiums and arenas. In a statement released on Thursday, LA28 organizers said the "landmark change" will apply to featured venues in support of the "largest commercial revenue raise in sports". "From the moment we submitted our bid, LA28 committed to reimagining what's possible for the Games," LA28 chairperson and president Casey Wasserman said in a statement. "Today's historic announcement delivers on that promise, creating the first-ever venue naming rights program in Olympic and Paralympic history while advancing LA28's mission of a fully privately funded and no-new-build Games." Contracts are already in place with automaker Honda, an LA28 sponsor which already has the naming rights for the Anaheim, California, arena that will host volleyball, and with media and technology company Comcast -- which will have its name on the temporary squash venue. As previously announced, Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles will host boxing and weightlifting. Wasserman said the "groundbreaking partnerships" will generate revenue beyond what is already budgeted and "will introduce a new commercial model to benefit the entire (Olympic) movement". "We're grateful to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for making this transformation possible," he added. Naming rights for up to 19 temporary venues will be available, with the IOC's sponsorship partners and LA28 partners having a chance to put their names on Games venues. Companies that already have their names on such Olympic venues as SoFi Stadium and Arena "will have the opportunity to keep existing venue naming rights during Games time", Wasserman indicated. Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya, back from injury, suffers another one in his first game back
Just one day after returning from a nearly 3-month absence, Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya is expected to head right back to the injured list after spraining his left ankle stepping on first base Wednesday night against Toronto. Amaya was carted off the field after the injury that happened when his foot landed awkwardly at the front of the base as he beat out an infield single in the eighth inning. Amaya twisted in the air after the impact and landed on his back in pain. Harrowing video captured during the game showed the shocking moment. 'You knew something was pretty seriously wrong pretty quickly,' Cubs manager Craig Counsell said. Cubs trainers eventually lifted Amaya onto a waiting cart and he was driven off while holding a towel over his face. Counsell said X-rays did not reveal a fracture. 'It's swollen up pretty good already,' Counsell said about Amaya's ankle after the Cubs beat Toronto 4-1. 'It's an IL. It's bad luck, unfortunately, and we're going to miss him.' Amaya, 26, was reinstated from the injury list Tuesday after being sidelined since May 25 because of a left oblique strain. He hit .280 with four homers and 25 RBIs in 27 games prior to the injury. 'I hate to see what happened to him,' rookie right-hander Cade Horton said of Amaya. 'Prayers to him. He's a special player, a great teammate.' Reese McGuire came on to run for the Cubs. Besides McGuire, the Cubs also have catcher Carson Kelly on the 26-man roster. According to an ESPN report, the Cubs are preparing to call up top prospect outfielder Owen Caissie following the Amaya's injury.

NCAA informs Michigan ruling on sign-stealing investigation will be released Friday, AP source says
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The NCAA has informed Michigan that the organization will announce the results of its sign-stealing investigation on Friday, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The person spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to share the details. The NCAA alleged last year in a notice that current coach Sherrone Moore violated rules as an assistant under former coach Jim Harbaugh, who served a three-game suspension in exchange for the Big Ten dropping its investigation into the allegations after the two ended up in court. Moore also was accused of deleting text messages with sign-stealer Connor Stalions before they were recovered and provided to the NCAA. Moore has previously said he has and will continue to cooperate with the NCAA's investigation, but recently declined to say much about the issue looming over the college football program with the most victories. 'Today, not tomorrow, that's all I'm worried about,' he said on Monday. The NCAA investigation surfaced early in the 2023 season amid allegations that Michigan used a robust in-person scouting and sign-stealing operation conducted by Stalions, a former a low-level staffer. He was suspended by the school and later resigned. Stalions, who did not participate in the NCAA investigation, recently said he knew almost every signal opponents used in seven games over two seasons. Michigan has been prepared to suspend Moore for two games during the coming season as part of self-imposed sanctions. The NCAA will announce soon whether that punishment is enough to address allegations that Moore failed to cooperate in an investigation. Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti sent a letter to the NCAA Committee on Infractions last month, suggesting that Michigan's football program should not face more sanctions related to the sign-stealing saga. After winning the 2023 national championship, Harbaugh left to coach the Los Angeles Chargers. The Wolverines open the season on Aug. 30 at home against New Mexico State and then play at Oklahoma, where Moore was an offensive lineman, on Sept. 6. Harbaugh was suspended by the Big Ten, three weeks after an investigation by the NCAA into the allegations began. Hours later, Michigan asked a court for an injunction and temporary restraining order and the two sides narrowly avoided a court hearing. Harbaugh has repeatedly denied any involvement in Stalions' apparent scheme. The NCAA does not have rules against stealing signs, but does prohibit schools from sending scouts to the games of future opponents and using electronic equipment to record another team's signals. Multiple Big Ten schools had records showing ticket purchases under Stalions' name and video surveillance footage of people in those seats with cell phones pointed toward the field. Big Ten coaches and athletic directors previously pushed Petitti to punish Harbaugh before the NCAA concluded its investigation. When the Big Ten did suspend Harbaugh, Michigan claimed the commissioner overstepped his authority and acted outside the conference's bylaws. Athletic director Warde Manuel released a scathing statement just before Michigan kicked off at Penn State and won 24-15 without Harbaugh on the sideline.
