
Beggar charged at hospital bed with murdering another beggar
KUALA LUMPUR: The Shah Alam Hospital observation ward briefly turned into a magistrate's courtroom today when a 28-year-old beggar was charged with murder.
Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the accused, Mohamad Fauzan Adib Abd Aziz, nodded to indicate that he understood the charge after it was read out to him.
Iqbal said the closed-door proceedings at 10.22am was presided over by Shah Alam Court assistant registrar Mislia Mohd Aris.
Fauzan, who was unrepresented, was accused of stabbing to death another beggar, aged 40, outside a bank in Section 18, allegedly over a turf dispute.
No plea was recorded as murder cases are under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Deputy public prosecutor Alia Anisa Khairus Masnan prosecuted.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty or imprisonment not less than 30 years and not exceeding 40 years upon conviction.
June 9 was set for mention at the Shah Alam magistrate's court.
On April 24, Iqbal said the incident occurred at 12pm when the suspect went to solicit money at his usual spot. A verbal altercation broke out between the suspect and the victim.
He said the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was arrested in the same area.
Police checks found that the suspect had nine criminal records. He tested negative for drugs.

Burglary suspect nabbed after rooftop standoff
KLUANG: Police arrested a 26-year-old man after he allegedly broke into a student dormitory here and later attempted to evade capture by climbing onto the rooftop of a nearby houses and buildings, yesterday. The suspect was eventually arrested at 8am. Earlier, at 4.20am, a man lodged a police report after discovering a break-in at the Yap Tau Sah dormitory. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said members of the public had spotted the suspect spotted loitering on a rooftop. They attempted to persuade him to come down. "Instead, the man leapt from one rooftop to another and refused to surrender," said Bahrin when contacted. Police arrived shortly after, but the man continued to resist arrest, prompting the Fire and Rescue Department to be called in for assistance. He was eventually detained unharmed. A background showed no criminal record. His urine test returned negative for drugs. The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for burglary, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years, a fine, or both upon conviction. Singaporean man in Skudai road rage incident remanded
JOHOR BAHRU: The Singaporean man detained on Sunday (June 8) to assist in the investigation into an altercation with another driver and vandalism of a car in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai has been remanded until Thursday (June 12). Johor Bahru Utara police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh confirmed this when contacted by Bernama on Monday (June 9). "The suspect has been remanded for four days until June 12,' he said briefly. The 40-year-old was arrested yesterday following a report on a viral road rage incident where the suspect was involved in an argument with a local man and kicked the complainant's car, causing damage. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect has no criminal record and tested negative for drugs. He will be brought to the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court today for the remand process. The case is being investigated under Section 426 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and Section 509 of the same code for insulting the modesty of a person. Earlier, police detected a video clip that had gone viral on Facebook showing two men arguing by the roadside, with visible damage to a vehicle at the scene. - Bernama
