Robbery gang mastermind shot dead in Bukit Tunku
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) acting director Datuk Fadil Marsus said the 36-year-old man, with 44 criminal records including drug cases, was believed to be responsible for several housebreaking and robbery cases reported in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Perak since last year, involving losses of more than RM1 million.
He said a team from the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) and the Kuala Lumpur Contingent JSJ, who were conducting crime prevention duties under Op Api KL 3/2025 in the Bukit Tunku area, spotted the suspect, who was in a BMW car, at about 4.10 am today.
'During an attempt to intercept the (BMW) car, a shootout occurred, resulting in the suspect being killed at the scene. Several gunshots also struck the police vehicle,' he said.
A search of the suspect's car uncovered a revolver, various burglary tools, and a police vest, he told a press conference held at the scene.
Fadil said checks on the BMW car found it was using a fake registration number and was believed to have been smuggled in from abroad.
Elaborating further, he said investigations showed that the gang targeted homes and business premises with safes, gold bars, and cash, and were believed to have posed as police officers.
'We believe the gang is also linked to a drug trafficking syndicate and may have dozens of members. Efforts to track down the remaining individuals are ongoing,' he said. - Bernama

KUANTAN: A former police station chief who held the rank of sergeant major was fined RM20,000 after he pleaded guilty to 40 counts of bribery amounting to RM5,850 at the Sessions Court here today. Anuar Yaakob, 56, made the guilty plea after the charges were read out to him in front of judge Sazlina Safie. He was accused of receiving valuable items, namely cash ranging from RM150 to RM1,000, from several individuals connected to his official duties through online transfers to his account between January 2021 and September 2022. He was accused of committing the act while on duty, holding the rank of sergeant and then sergeant major serving as the Cherating police station chief. He was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code which carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to two years or fine, or both. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy prosecuting officer Ezuain Farhana Ahmad appeared for the prosecution while Anuar was represented by lawyer Mohd Baharuddin Ahmad Kassim. In sentencing, Sazline fixed RM500 fine for each charge. Anuar paid the fine. In 2023, Anuar claimed trial to 98 counts of bribery amounting to RM31,400 in 2021 and 2022.

Former cop fined RM20,000 in plea bargain over RM31,000 bribery case
KUANTAN: A former Cherating police station chief has been fined RM20,000 by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to 40 out of 98 charges of receiving bribes. Judge Sazlina Safie imposed a fine of RM500 for each charge on Anuar Yaakob, 56, with one month's jail in default of payment for each charge. The accused, however, settled the total fine of RM20,000. According to the charges, Anuar was then serving as a sergeant and later sergeant major at the Pahang police headquarters and Cherating police station, respectively. He was accused of receiving between RM150 and RM1,000 from several individuals via bank transfers into his account without consideration while performing his official duties from January 2021 to September 2022. He was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code (Act 574), which carries a maximum sentence of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction. The remaining 58 charges were taken into consideration by the court under Section 171A of the Criminal Procedure Code as part of a plea bargain submitted by the defence. Previously, the accused was brought before the Kuantan Sessions Court on Aug 24, 2023, to face 98 charges of receiving bribes amounting to RM31,400. – Bernama

"The suspect acted aggressively when police attempted to intercept the luxury car he was driving for inspection at about 4.10am. "He opened fire at the police, forcing CID officers to return fire in self-defence," he told reporters at the scene, adding that the suspect was fatally shot in the incident. DCP Fadil said further investigation revealed the suspect was using fake number plates on the vehicle. "Checks with the Road Transport Department found no registration records, leading investigators to believe the car may have been smuggled into the country. "We also seized a police vest, a revolver believed to have been used in the shooting, various house break-in tools, and drugs from the vehicle," he said. He added that the gang had been active since last year, targeting private residences - particularly those with safes - and stealing gold bars and cash. "The gang comprises more than a dozen individuals. All CID units in the Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Perak contingents have been mobilised to track down the remaining members," he said.
