U.S. News & World Report's Best States: Where does Virginia rank?
Virginia was ranked 16th on U.S. News & World Report's list for the 2025 best states in the country.
Virginia's ranking this year dropped from 2024, when it was ranked the 13th best state.
The ranking takes several metrics across eight categories into account: crime and corrections, economy, education, fiscal stability, health care, infrastructure, natural environment and opportunity.

Economy: No. 10
Crime and corrections: No. 12
Education: No. 15
Health care: No. 18
Natural environment: No. 19
Fiscal stability: No. 23
Opportunity: No. 25
Infrastructure: No. 38
Virginia also ranked fairly high in these subcategories: Air & water quality (No. 3), employment (No. 4), long-term fiscal stability (No. 8) and pre-k education (No. 10).
According to the ranking, Virginia's job growth was 2.3% this year, above the national average of 1.5%. The state's high school graduation rate of 88.8% was also above the national average of 85.8%, and its poverty rate of 10.2% fell below the national average of 12.2%.

However, Virginia's liquidity is only 53.4 according to the ranking, far below the national average of 99.4 and contributing to the state's low score in short-term fiscal stability.
Virginia's lowest scores were in the following four subcategories: Short-term fiscal stability (No. 36), pollution (No. 36), affordability (No. 37) and internet access (No. 37).
Utah was crowned best state overall for a third straight year and ranked in the top 20 for seven of the eight categories, according to the report. Here are U.S. News' top five overall best states in America:

Louisiana was ranked the worst state in the U.S., according to the report, and Alaska, Mississippi, New Mexico and West Virginia finished out the report's bottom five states.

Rite Aid closing stores amid bankruptcy filing. Which locations are closing in Delaware?
As Rite Aid continues with store closures after filing for bankruptcy again, more Delaware locations will shut down. Here's what you need to know. Rite Aid announced on May 5 that it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time since October of 2023. The initial announcement noted 47 stores slated for closure, followed by a second wave of 68 stores and a third wave of 95 stores on May 16. Just before Memorial Day, a court filing showed that Rite Aid sought to close an additional 151 locations in 10 states. This is the largest batch of combined closures, bringing the total stores impacted to 361, which is more than a quarter of Rite Aid's collection of 1,277 locations, according to Fast Company. Why is Louisiana ranked the worst state on U.S. News & World Report's list of all 50 states?
U.S. News & World Report has released a list of the "Best States for 2025," in which all 50 states are ranked. This ranking assesses U.S. states across eight categories, including healthcare, education, natural environment, opportunity, economy, crime and corrections, infrastructure, as well as fiscal stability. Among the top 10 best states in the U.S., three each were located in the West, Midwest and Northeast, with only one Southern state making the top 10. On U.S. News & World Report's ranking of the "Best States for 2025," Louisiana came in last at number 50. When breaking down Louisiana's overall ranking, the state also came in last at number 50 in the crime and corrections, as well as economy, categories. Meanwhile, Louisiana's highest category rank was health care at number 44. Additionally, Louisiana ranked number 46 in education, 46 in fiscal stability, 48 in infrastructure, 49 in natural environment and 46 in opportunity.
