Caught in the act: Haridwar police nab chain snatchers

Uttarakhand police recently took to social media with a dramatic surveillance video that looks straight out of an action film, minus the chase. The footage, which has now gone viral, shows two individuals on bikes executing swift chain snatchings before trying to speed away.
But fate (and a well-coordinated police team) had other plans.
The video put out by police shows clear visuals of the suspects' act, thanks to CCTV coverage. Acting on the video evidence, Haridwar Police quickly traced the culprits and arrested two individuals involved in a recent chain-snatching spree across the region.
The incidents took place near Ranipur and Sidcul, Haridwar. According to the police, both men are house painters, one of whom has been to jail before.
The police recovered a couple of pistol, knife and stolen jewellery from the culprits, effectively wrapping up the case with style.
Netizens applaud, memes ensue
As soon as the meme-like post hit the X timeline (formerly Twitter), reactions poured in, ranging from praise for the efficient police work to meme-makers giving the snatchers a hard roast. One user commented, 'bike thieves starring in Fast & Foolish,' while another quipped, 'Haridwar cops deserve an action movie cameo!'
Earlier on May 29, Haridwar police apprehended three repeat offenders near the Canal Patri overbridge.

During interrogation, the trio confessed to two thefts that had recently occurred in the Roorkee area, specifically at Eimli Road and Sherkothi Pathanpura.
"The Haridwar police have cracked two theft cases in the Roorkee area, specifically on Eimli Road and Sherkothi Pathanpura, with the arrest of three notorious thieves near the Canal Patri Overbridge. The police have recovered stolen items, cash, and a motorcycle used in the crimes", shared the Uttarakhand police on their Twitter(X).
Recently in a separate operation involving the theft of valuables worth several lakhs from a hotel in Haridwar, police tracked the suspect using footage from over 350 CCTV cameras and ground-level investigation across the Haridwar-Ambala route. The accused was eventually nabbed with a gold chain, three rings, and ₹50,000 in cash.

Security forces recover 2.5 tonnes more of explosives looted by Maoists
1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: Security forces on Monday recovered another 2.5 tonnes of explosives, six days after Maoists looted a stone quarry truck in Sundargarh district. The joint operation led by Odisha police involved multiple agencies, including the special operations group (SOG), district voluntary force (DVF), India Reserve Battalion (IRB), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jharkhand's Jaguars. By Friday, around 30 per cent of stolen materials had been recovered. "Odisha police have been working day and night on a sustained basis to ensure that the entire looted explosive consignment is recovered. All due care is being taken for safety of personnel searching for the explosive materials in the forest," said DGP Y B Khurania. The joint effort is being overseen by top police officers of both states. The recovery operation involved deep search metal detectors (DSMD) to locate explosives buried underground and concealed beneath dry leaves in a forest area along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, said DIG (western range) Brijesh Rai. "SOG is leading the other forces in the search operation. We still have 1.5 tonnes of explosives left to recover. There are natural craters in the forest, which the Maoists have used to hide the explosives. So far, we know that the ultras have hidden the explosives within a four km stretch of forest," the DIG added. On May 27, armed Maoists hijacked the explosives-laden truck from a place close to Banko stone quarry. They took the truck into the forest and fled with the explosive packets, which included mostly gelatine sticks and detonators used in stone blasting. The site of the loot was adjacent to Saranda forest, a Maoist den in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.

Woman falls at Bengaluru auto driver's feet to apologise after thrashing him with slippers
1 2 Bengaluru: A video clip of a 28-year-old software engineer and her husband apologising to an autorickshaw driver in the city by literally falling at his feet went viral on social media on Monday. According to the back story, the engineer, Pankhuri Mishra, had assaulted the auto driver, Lokesh, 33, with her slippers near Centro Mall in Bellandur on Saturday afternoon, after the two-wheeler she was riding pillion on with her husband came to a screeching halt to avoid colliding with the auto driven by Lokesh. Pankhuri, who is pregnant, claims the sudden braking could have thrown her off the two-wheeler. Worried about the well-being of the child she was carrying in her womb, Pankhuri said she attacked the auto driver — more out of shock than any real intention to harm him. Following her assault on Lokesh, Pankhuri was arrested and released on bail by Bellandur police on Sunday. The elaborate show of apology happened on Sunday after Pankhuri, her husband, their friends, Lokesh, his friends and family, and a group of autorickshaw drivers got together, though it is still not clear who initiated this 'truce' meeting of sorts.
