Columbiana softball clinches 4th straight league title
COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) – Columbiana clinches its fourth straight Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference outright championship as the Clippers top United, 5-0.
Caitlynn Pleska homered and doubled as she finished with 2 RBIs and scored twice. Addison Brode collected a pair of singles from her cleanup position in the lineup.
Brode also pitched a 5-hit, complete-game shutout. She also struck out 15 of the 28 batters she faced.
Columbiana (16-5) seeks its 10th win in a row when they travel to face South Range on Saturday.
Peyton Kekel threw 6 innings for United, striking out 5 Clippers.
The Golden Eagles fall to 15-5 with a matchup at East Liverpool on Saturday.

Advertisement While Holiday's talents mostly come on one end of the floor, White could help the Clippers on both ends. He is a strong defender, having earned All-Defensive honors in two of the last three seasons. He'd also give the Clippers another dependable option on offense. He averaged 16.4 points and 4.8 assists per game this past season. His three-point shooting would give the Clippers a boost in another area where they need it. He knocked down 3.5 threes per game this past season while shooting 38.4% from behind the arc. Meanwhile, the Clippers were near the bottom of the league in both three point attempts and made threes. Advertisement White wouldn't be a cheap option. He carries a $28.1 million cap hit into next season and it escalates each year after. He'd also require the Clippers to part with a decent amount of the little remaining draft capital they have available. Still, he'd be worth the price as a great fit to play alongside James Harden in the Clippers' backcourt. Scotto also mentioned that the Clippers are specifically looking for a center who can protect the rim. With the MLE being worth just $14.1 million, that doesn't give them many options who fit that description, but there are some out there. Advertisement Steven Adams is a name that has come up previously. Andre Drummond could take on that role if he turns down his player option with the 76ers. Kevon Looney could also be of interest if he leaves Golden State for the first time in his career. One of the big problems the Clippers faced during the 2024-25 season was a lack of depth. They had no size in the frontcourt behind Ivica Zubac and didn't have a ton to work with in the backcourt when James Harden and Norman Powell came off the floor. If the Clippers can address both of these needs with the MLE, it frees them up to use their remaining assets to try and get themselves some more talent in the starting lineup. One big caveat here is that there is also another relevant team in LA and Paul tried to join them before heading to the Clippers. However, the most of the Lakers' point guard minutes go to Luka Doncic and they already have Gabe Vincent coming off the bench. He's a better fit for the Clippers right now and if he wants to return to LA to finish his career, they'd probably be happy to have him back on the roster.
